How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

That’s a pretty disappointing upgrade for a Platinum. I don’t know if it’s because there is now more Plats or things have changed or not but I was told a few years back that Plats got automatic upgrade to Artist suites and Diamonds got upgrades to atleast Artist suites or Gallery suites if available. As regular visitors and Diamonds we get upgraded to the Garden suite these days

Something I've been meaning to get back to you on. IIRC (if!) you mentioned that a Raffles (Singapore?) told you that they only do good upgrades for 'proper' Plats and Diamonds - that is, earned through spend - not those who accelerated via Signature etc. If I do recall correctly, I was wondering how the hotel knew how the guest achieved their status.

Can you add anything to the expected upgrade thing in general? I'll make Diamond at the end of this month, via Signature but with a lot of bum-in-bed stays and I'm wondering what my expectation should be. In Asia/Pacific I guess. Does Accor Europe 'recognise' Diamond (they certainly are mostly oblivious to Plat).

Status: Explorer+ Diamond
Travelling solo last month to use all of my points.

Property: TRIBE Bali Kuta Beach
Room booked: TRIBE Comfort with Balcony
Room upgraded/type: Yes, TRIBE Comfort Suite, Ocean View, 1 King Bed
Early check in/late out: Offered the late checkout to afternoon
Welcome drink: One drink from a separate menu
Welcome amenity: Chocolates
Comments: Close to the beach (2 mins) and a shopping mall (10 mins); majority of the guests are younger crowd. Members at the roof-top restuarant weren't attentive. The hotel labelled one of the room types, TRIBE Comfort Terrace, as an upgrade. Interestingly, this room type is not bookable through their website and received some criticism from some travellers.

Property: Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi
Room booked: Opera Wing, Premium Room
Room upgraded/type: Yes, Opera Wing, Grand Premium Room
Early check in/late out: Offered the late checkout to afternoon
Comments: Didn't have great experience at the arrival but the rest of the stay was brilliant. It is a hugh hotel with multiple F&B outlets for breakfast. They offered a daily tour explaining the history of the hotel and guiding the guests down to the bomb shelter. The food quality at the Club Lounge was good - oyster was one of the options during the coughtail hours. They also have a 24/7 butler service (via WhatsApp or call) - got a free bottle of mozzie repellent from them.

Property: Sofitel Luang Prabang
Room booked: Garden Suite
Room upgraded/type: Yes, Pool Villa
Early check in/late out: Offered the late checkout to afternoon
Comments: First time getting upgraded to a suite with a private pool. The hotel is a former French colonial governor's residence. No many guests stayed during my visit - it is likely related to the room rate (USD 280 per night after tax) and monsoon season. The hotel charges in USD for all services, including a bottle of the water in the restaurant.
Team members were quite attentive. Tried some a few Lao cuisine for breakfast and dinner while a server detailed the steps for me to enjoy those foods. BTW, when I arrived, a team member banged a gong as the welcome procedure.

Property: 3 Nagas Hotel Luang Prabang
Room booked: Deluxe Room
Room upgraded/type: Yes, Executive Suite
Early check in/late out: Offered the late checkout to afternoon
Comments: A sister hotel to Sofitel (same owner). Has scheduled shuttle services between these two properties. (Guests from 3 Nagas can use the gym, spa, and pool at Sofitel). The hotel charges in USD for all services. My room rate is around USD 78 per night (after tax).
The property is quite compact and situated in the old quarter, conveniently close to several main tourist attractions. There are night market, bars, restaurants nearby. It is not hard to find reasonablely-priced meals.
Breakfast is ordered through à la carte menu. Those options were also available in Sofitel - Sofitel has more choices. The hotel also offered some activities, including alms giving - monks from the nearby temples collects foods from people in the early morning. Hotel will arrange a spot (right in front of the hotel ) and foods for guests - it costs me USD 30 (including the tax).

Yes, had a couple of Raffles properties mention the Diamond option via ALL Signature. No other properties have ever mentioned this and I suspect it may just be a Raffles thing?
I guess they can see on your records that you are subscribed to Signature.
As a Diamond I find that Asia seem to reward you the best and often give upgrades to a suite or several levels higher and some will throw in extras such as free airport transfers or massages etc. Australia and NZ is mostly good for upgrades and status recognition. Limited experience in the US but the 2 Accor properties we stayed in gave us amazing upgrades
I’d throw the ME in with the excellent group, they have fantastic status recognition I’ve found. Europe is probably the low point in the program IMO, we get good upgrades in the UK and our upgrade and treatment in Prague was first rate but sadly in other parts of Europe it’s pretty poor. Lucky to get a 1 or 2 level upgrade and maybe a small gift. The majority of our stays are in the Sofitel or higher range so in all honesty I do expect to be treated better and we are repeat visitors to most which helps.

Property: Mercure Dinan Port Le Jerzual, Brittany
Status: Explorer+ Platinum
Room booked: Standard
Room upgraded/type: I think so - 'Superior'
Rate: $303 per night
Early check in/late out: Checked in at 1pm, but initially told '3pm check in' I pointed out I was Plat and maybe early check-in was available. Ah, yes.
Free internet: Yes.
Welcome drink: Yes,
Welcome amenity: Yes. Handwritten card and bag of small local treats.
Recommend: Yes

Dinan is a lovely little town and this Mercure is a nice hotel in a picturesque setting on the La Rance river. Staff were very pleasant.

The room had great 'blackout' curtains - in as much there was one of those electric shutter things, so 100% darkness!

But the town is an approx 15-20 min walk uphill from here! There is a bus stop a short distance from the hotel which I suspect would get you up the hill.

Property: Novotel Spa Rennes Centre Gare, Brittany
Status: Explorer+ Platinum
Room booked: Executive
Room upgraded/type: No
Rate: $290 per night
Early check in/late out: Checked in at 1pm, OK
Free internet: Yes.
Welcome drink: Yes,
Welcome amenity: No
Recommend: If arriving by train, otherwise not particularly

Quite a rude and abrupt person did my checking-in but fortunately I didn't have to deal with them again. The trip from the underground car park involves a steep ramp, three sets of stairs (including one complete flight) and about 4 doors. And then there were about 5 stairs between the lift and the room floors!

Just a Novotel, close to the train station and 20 mins walk to the historic area.

Property: Mercure Caen Centre Port de Plaisance Hotel
Status: Explorer+ Platinum
Room booked: Priviledge
Room upgraded/type: No
Rate: $250 per night
Early check in/late out: Checked in at 1pm, OK
Free internet: Yes - 140 MBps
Welcome drink: Yes,
Welcome amenity: No
Recommend: Yes - location.

I'm getting the hang of Mercures in France - they have all been pretty good and the ones I've chosen well located. Parking was always a factor, as well as proximity to any historic centre.

This Mercure is situated on the Port de Plaisance, and as you can sorta tell even without proper translation, it was a 'pleasant' location, on a marina with many bars and eateries nearby. The Sunday market - quite large - is right outside on Sunday morning. As usual, zero Plat recognition and no welcome amenity. Not expected in France!

There is a bar and small restaurant with the bar which produced small plates.

Parking underground, limited and about 15 euros/day (about standard for underground parking in the hotels I've been staying in.

There is an Ibis co-joined - Mercure on the right.

I asked for, and got, an inward facing room. Main issue was the shower - a lethal, completely smooth plastic floor. Wifi fast at 140 MBps.

... I am surprised that even they can see what's behind one's status.
I'm not surprised, the information has to be available and why not allow hotels to access some form of it.

I believe there would likely be something like a rating for each member, such as a Qantas type PCV.

While they gave me the accor+ discount when i was there 2 weeks ago, and i made a point of offering the loyalty card too but the girl said the night manager would reconcile the points... no points have arrived :(

I paid at the restaurant, didn't bill to room, but they took the room number
Looking at my points account now (below). How do you discern what points were earned in the restaurant?
4 Nights cost $676. Restaurant / drinks bill is $413

Like the airline check-in and on board, all they need to know is the status to afford you the benefits. Not how you got it.

Why not allow? Because it will result in exactly the type of discrimination that’s been described as happens at Raffles. The Accor ALL program doesn’t have “real” and “bought it” status levels - just Platinum, Diamond etc Otherwise, the Signature etc programs are a con. You are actually not buying into that status, you’re buying into a second class status.

But as I said, I’m not surprised rRaffles does have it. That probably made such access as a condition of them joining the program, just like they don’t have the same lounge access rules.

Thanks @markis10 . So the food and beverage is rolled into the overall bill.
So that is 606pts on line one being the euro equivalent. The Gold Bonus is bonus at 48% of 606 for 302 pts. That just leaves the Loyalty Bonus Offer 3X which is double the standard rate on line one (3x for both line one and two) but I have no idea where that comes from?
