How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

Sofitel Darling Harbour is good in that regard, can use the welcome drink voucher at Champagne Bar
Welcome gift and welcome drink are 2 completely different things though.
Never have problems getting decent drinks with the welcome drink vouchers and at some hotels they will offer Diamonds better options.

The welcome gift in your room however is often only a pretty mediocre offering unless it’s a special event. It’s often the De Bortoli rubbish but have received bottles of Laurent Perrier at overseas hotels

Stayed two nights at the Pullman last weekend. I’ve read so many poor reviews for this hotel and wanted to give it a go for myself. It was ‘fine’.

The room was spacious and the bathroom super clean. Room very noisy though (tram and street noise) and no view to speak of. I had to call to ask for slippers and hand towels (and even then they just delivered more face washers?! So not a single hand towel in the room). I enjoyed the filtered water dispenser near the room (there is one on each floor).

Despite lots of mixed reviews, I really enjoyed the lounge. It was much more relaxed than the Sofitel and a beautiful room. The evening drinks and canapés were ‘meh’ but breakfast excellent. Even the coffee was decent, and I don’t turn down breakfast champagne.

Fantastic location right in the middle of main shopping area and Chinatown very close. I will return at the right $rate.

2 night stopover on the way home. Located a very convenient 7 minutes drive from the airport. The complimentary shuttle bus runs once an hour but is very straightforward. If you're arriving on a late flight and feeling a bit peckish, your only options for food in the immediate vicinity is the 7/11 down below, as there is no room service after 10pm and the restaurant has also closed by then. The hotel is directly connected to Tung Chung station and it is a 30 min trip on the MTR to city centre. I was impressed with the room. Everything had a very quality feel to it - the doors are the heaviest and thickest i've experienced in a hotel! Entering the room/bathroom each time felt like opening a vault.

The executive lounge is a great space and has outstanding views across to the airport and i got carried away watching the constant stream of 747's taking off. Between 5pm and 7pm is coughtail hour and there is a substantial offering of 4-5 hot items along with cold cuts, cheeses and deserts. Alcoholic options were limited but there's something to please everyone. Breakfast is served in the main restaurant and is a pretty standard buffet with an egg station. Not much to fault from this stay and i would definitely return.

I stayed here earlier in the year and one noteworthy thing is the lounge has alcohol (beer/wine) during all opening hours but then this is upgraded to include some spirits and sparkling between 5-7pm.

Indeed.

My final stay to push me over the line to Platinum was a bit of a funny one. I initially booked a superior room which was $785 at the time of booking 5 days before the stay. I then found the same room on booking.com for $440 so submitted a best price claim. The Accor customer service response honoured it (but gave me the wrong email for the hotel). I then emailed the hotel to confirm the change but in the meantime (2 days before stay) the $705 rate on a club room opened up so I took that instead and wasn't fussed about the best price claim as this spend would nudge me into platinum territory.

On check in I was informed I was upgraded to a 50th floor suite which was a very pleasant surprise and by far one of the best upgrades I've received at any Accor hotel. The staff were fantastic and although the drinks in the club lounge had a hard finish at 7 (and I only arrived at 6:30) I was still able to pop over to the bar for my welcome drink.

Breakfast was quite tasty and a fairly good spread in the club lounge. Overall a great stay and a great first time in the club lounge here, much better than the one in Adelaide imo although maybe a better breakfast at the restaurant in Adelaide. My only gripe would be that the shower only had 2 temperatures (cold or satanically hot) and very piddly water pressure, though these seem to be more symptoms of the hotels age. The slippers were also much better than the standard ones it seems and among the best we've received in a hotel, competing with some 5 star places in Asia on this front.

I can confirm the water pressure is really really bad. I remember during my last stay, the hot water stopped mid shower for about a minute before randomly coming back.

Yes - I reckon the Sofitel Adelaide is of their highest standard in Australia; but it does require some knowledge of what to use for each service. If at Adelaide, I would definitely do breakfast at the restaurant for a vastly superior experience to the lounge (unless it’s crazy busy at the main restaurant, I suppose), whereas at Sydney Darling Harbour, I would always go to the lounge for b’fast, even if it meant waiting a while for a table, in order to avoid the hordes and associated behaviour at Atelier.

Been staffing issues at Sofitel Adelaide for far too long.
We stay an average of 20-30 nights per year there and it’s a pretty common theme unfortunately

Must be a 50th floor issue. No water pressure issues on the lower floors. This platinum pleb has only been as high as the 48th floor :)

Booked in last minute to celebrate anniversary with the lady wife. Super lovely crew at the lounge and big thanks to all. Especially Bandicka and Teri. Le Gouter was a welcome nibble after the NGV Winter Masters exhibition in the morning.

We kicked back and watched Poirot on Britbox before returning for canapes and multiple triple cognacs beside the fireplace in the lounge.

Concur with the water pressure issues... and the fact it took a lot of fiddling to avoid scolding myself with the hot water in the shower. Still. If thats my only gripe when I had a lovely bath, I can live with it.

Already booked back in to come and work through the rest of the brekky menu... (and being a piggy I went to No 35 for a wider buffet after stuffing myself...)

Kudos and shout out to Zennon at the Atrium for epic banter and some truly girly coughtails for my inner darling.

I swear this train seat back to Bendigo is narrower than the one I was in yesterday... 🤣1000029364.jpg1000029360.jpg

Nice upgrade!

Nice upgrade!
Some decent rates for Friday and Sat between now and November if you wanna try your luck, Dave. Great in lieu of spending a fortune in bars if you can catch those triple cognacs before a night out!

How do you hack the Internet with the box behind the TV? ie. bringing your own travel router and cord. Do you piggy back or just use the network cable coming from the wall to the travel router direct?
Not using the Hotel Wi-Fi is the key/ security....

Won’t post a full review as I’ve probably done one the Pullman Adelaide many times previously but I will give a shoutout to their excellent treatment during our recent stay.
We had to get a travel shot in Hindmarsh Square at 0930 yesterday morning so thought we would book a room at the Pullman for the sake of it. Paid $147 for the standard basic room and the plan was to drop our bags off at the hotel at 0900 and have the car valet parked and we would walk to the appointment, do some shopping and come buck at lunch to check in. The GM served us at reception and said they would call us when the room was ready so headed off to the travel doctor and about 10 minutes after arriving there the hotel called and said did we have any room preference as a Executive suite would be ready at 12pm for us or they could get a Junior suite immediately. Only 1 night stay so took the junior suite option a they sai they would take the bags up to the room and we could swing by and pick up the room keys.
We stay there about a dozen times per year and this was the first time we had received a note in the room so perhaps an “enhancement” with the wine welcome gift now needed to be ordered by dialling or speaking to concierge.
The usual small selections in the EL but quiet and the fantastic Bohman always has our drinks ready without even asking. Breakfast the usual stuff and ok without being great. 3pm checkout offered but not needed. Welcome drinks 2 of whatever we wanted to at the bar. Hotel can get busy with foot traffic at times as 2 floors have been permanently booked by SA Health but you don’t really notice the noise.

I use one of the below travel routers with a VPN - can bridge either wifi or ethernet, sets up a tunnel the moment it's turned on, and all my devices are immediately paired.

What @sudoer said. Same device for me too.

What problem specifically are you trying to solve though? Also, probably not the right thread for this discussion, but a good discussion regardless.

Noob with the router setup that seen on ozbargain.... but that's exactly what I'm referring to... just a bit of how to do in accor hotels as looked behind TV today and saw white box that Ethernet plugged into before onto TV. Figure wired better than Wi-Fi. VPN recommendation too?
