Sofitel Darling Harbour is good in that regard, can use the welcome drink voucher at Champagne Bar

Welcome gift and welcome drink are 2 completely different things though.
Never have problems getting decent drinks with the welcome drink vouchers and at some hotels they will offer Diamonds better options.

The welcome gift in your room however is often only a pretty mediocre offering unless it’s a special event. It’s often the De Bortoli rubbish but have received bottles of Laurent Perrier at overseas hotels

Me too… but as some of the folks on here know; I’m too much of a craft beer snob to accept most of what they have to give away in a hotel!
