How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

Property: Mercure Perth On Hay.
Status: Platinum plus.
Room booked: Deluxe King Room (x2).
Rate: $160 (note, stayed 3 nights with 2 rooms for a work trip with a colleague).
Room upgrade: Yes - Superior King Room with Balcony (for both rooms).
Free internet: Yes.
Free breakfast: Yes, for me only as colleague was not a member. Only ate at the restaurant one morning as ventured out to other city locations to look around. Reasonable options; was able to request freshly cooked eggs to my liking.
Early check in / late out: Not required, but assume it was available if I did.
Welcome drink: 1x voucher on app; nothing for the second room.
Welcome gift: Cheap and underwhelming bottle of red, nothing else. Fairly disappointing as even a fresh place of fruit at other hotels would have sufficed to snack on once checked in.
Recommend: Yes and no. I am struggling to find a location in Perth that pulls me to come back. I have stayed at The Adnate but rates were too high this trip. Novotel on Murray is always out of the price bracket. The upgrade to the room with a balcony, and on the top floor made for a very comfortable room with lots of fresh air. If I was in a room without the balcony, it would have felt old and cramped. Will keep looking at other options in Perth.
Final thoughts on Perth options: Have now tried The Adnate (yes, when $ suits), Novotel Langley (no, old and overpriced), Ibis Styles (no, cramped rooms and away from anything useful in the CBD). The new Tribe near Kings Park looks interesting, but outside of the CBD. Happy for suggestions as I am usually in Perth a few times a year with work.

Hot tip. Book your room for two people in Australia. No extra cost but now you have two welcome drinks and breakfast for two.

1br apt in the Mantra on Hay goes for about 180 weekdays.
Novotel Langley is good for a weeks worth of living there, as long as you get into the Room number x04 Executive Suite on each level.
Stay away from the corner bldg Junior suites x05 / x06 as they may "seem" better being a larger room which you get as an upgrade being Gold/Platinum but don't have a full lounge suite or kitchenette that you get in the Exec Suite.

Thanks for the tip. When I stayed there I did get the Junior Suite upgrade and it wasn’t very comfortable. The air con didn’t work properly and buzzed the entire time, I ended up turning it off which wasn’t great for air flow. Service couldn’t help, they were “fully booked”. Ruined my experience and doesn’t make me want to go back.

I was looking recently, and saw the Mondrian opened in Dec 2023 and seems promising - has anyone stayed?
I stayed Mondrian Hong Kong in May 2025. Great hotel. Booked a room one category above base - was slightly larger than base room (still small as it is HK). Great view of Victoria Harbour from my room. Was on high floor so not sure if it was an upgrade (I am Accor Plus Gold). Breakfast was plated (order 5 components from the menu) and small buffet - great quality food and beautiful restaurant. Accor Plus discount only 15% (not disclosed at the time). Also had dinner there one night and was fantastic - once again only 15% discount. Great area to stay in, close to everything. I would stay there again.

Property: 25Hours Jakarta The Oddbird
Status: Accor Plus Gold
Room booked: Large Urban 40sqm (one category up from the lowest category room)
Rate: Hotel Escape Sale $176 per night
Room upgrade: Yes - Extra Large Urban 68sqm
Free internet: Yes
Free breakfast: No, but buffet available around $23 AUD per person.Creative and high quality offerings served in their Peruvian restaurant, COPA. The hard working Executive Chef, from Chile, was seen talking to guests and making sure everything was running smoothly.
Early check in / late out: Not required, but offered by phone call prior to check out time.
Welcome drink: 2x drinks using voucher on app. Bit of a run around to get it, though. Diamond and Platinum get a different drink at a different outlet, compared to Gold which are only entitled to a 'grab and go' offering.
Welcome gift: Premium looking chocolate and cookie, neatly presented next to a hand written welcome letter.
Recommend: If you want to try the first 25Hours hotel in Asia, yes, go for it. It's brand new and the rooms are are huge, helped by high ceilings, well designed and funky decorated rooms. You can still smell the rich leather scent coming off the couch in the living room. Yes, that's a bicycle in the room and a bird plush toy on the bed! The hotel is directly connected to a very trendy and upmarket mall, "ASHTA" in SCBD area of Jakarta. Busy in the daytime with office workers. No shortage of local and international dining options. The surrounding locale is walkable. I've reached ALL Platinum now so will likely opt for Raffles, as I can get rooms at Raffles on the weekend for similar price ... more on that to follow...

Property: Novotel Melbourne Airport
Status: Platinum plus
Room booked: Deluxe twin double
Rate: $199
Room upgrade: no - but only suite higher and travelling with kids so maybe not possible either
Free internet: yes
Free breakfast: platinum benefit - buffet is reasonable quality, medium quantity of options
Early check in / late out: not required or requested
Welcome drink: 4 voucher in app which disappeared overnight and then had to go back to reception for vouchers for takeaway coffees
Welcome gift: chocolate aeroplane. Second time. Was hoping for the socks!
Recommend: similar to my first stay, soundproofing is abysmal for a new hotel at an airport. Whether that’s being on the top floor or not I’m unsure, but the planes are loud and I’ve stayed at plenty of other hotels near airports that are well built. At least there’s a curfew…
Otherwise it’s a fairly run of the mill Novotel. I’d suck it up and stay here again I’m sure, but only because I’ll need the status nights or feel like a free breakfast.
Drop off service at airport is good, book a time and quick ride up from hotel. Pick up isn’t great as you have to call when ready then it’s 20 minutes, we walked down - 10 minutes from Qantas. 3 cases, 2 kids, 1 stroller 🫠
The pickup is a joke tbh! I was chatting with one of the staffs and he told me that they have to do front of house as well do the pickup and dropoff which is why they get long lines at check in. They need more staffs tbh!

2nd time here. See my earlier review with photos here.

Property: Raffles Jakarta
Status: Accor Plus Gold
Room booked: Raffles King Room "STAR/HOST - NON FLEX RATE - PREFERRED PARTNERS PERSONAL STAYS"
Room upgraded/type: Yes, one category up to Raffles King Room Garden View.
Free internet: Yes
Free breakfast: No. Buffet available at just AUD$24 per person.
Early check in/late out: Early checkin 10am granted, early check out 3pm granted. Checked out at 3.30pm.
Welcome drink: Yes. A choice of drinks delivered to room by the butler after checkin. Fruits and chocolates already in room.
Additional 2x welcome drinks available in the app which can be be enjoyed at the pool bar or the Writers Bar. About 20 choices of drinks (both alcoholic and non alcoholic) served with complimentary snacks.
Recommend: Yes. The service here is something I have yet to experience at other hotel brands.
My default choice if I ever find myself here.

The 3 course set menu for dinner at 350,000 IDR ++ or about AUD$40 net is great value.
Food, service and ambience 5 stars. For dessert, we were able to choose 3 desserts (made up of cakes and tarts, pictured below). Mrs Durian had her eyes on the elaborate macaroon display, asked whether they were included in the dessert course, but we were informed they weren't. Never mind.
We asked for 1x piece of cake to be served now in the restaurant and the other 2x pieces of cake to be boxed so we can take them back to our room.
Back at our room, when we opened the cake takeaway box, we were surprised to find among the cake pieces, they had put 4 macaroons in. Small gesture, but this is the kind of service details that make you smile.

When I walked into the Writers Bar at 8pm to redeem the free drinks, and was greeted by the staff "hello Mr Durian, how are you?", I mentioned I'm feeling a bit cold from the cool aircon in the lobby. The staff offered to make me a hot ginger, lemon, honey tea, a drink not available on the menu. They seated me in the cosiest part of the bar, too. Small, but impressive service gestures.

For those of you with Platinum status, I was told by checkin staff they upgrade to their 96sqm -100sqm Suites, subject to availability.

Property: Mantra One Hobart

Room booked: Executive
Rate: Accor plus Plat, $199 same-day reservation
Room upgraded/type: No
Free internet
: Yes - but flakey
Free breakfast: No. No b’fast or bar facility on site.
Early check in/late out: Yes, late checkout and parking offered till noon.
Welcome drink: Yes. but app says to request at check-in and when I looked later, I couldn’t be bothered.
Welcome amenity: a block of Tasmanian Devil fudge (!), two bottles of apple
juice and a non-personalised welcome card.
Parking: Yes, limited, $20/night
Recommend: yes, under certain circumstances.

This is a bit of a quirky one and if I tell you it was formally the Hobart telephone exchange building, you might understand why.

I needed a same day reservation in Hobart and didn’t want to pay much. I never stayed at a Mantra before and this was quite cheap so I thought I’d give it a go.

I think the bottom tier was about $160 and I chose the third tier an executive room at about $199. The room, or suite was very large but rather sparsely furnished, but comfortable enough. Self-contained kitchenette, very large lounge room and bedroom. Bathroom including clothes washer and dryer.

The Wi-Fi was very flaky. I needed reception help to get it going on my phone and couldn’t get my tablet to connect at all even at reception.

No doubt the prices will go up in summer but if you want a relatively cheap, self-contained stay in the centre of Hobart you should look at this. But also look at the Woolstore if you want this.

Yes, we stayed as Diamonds and upgraded to the Gallery Suites which are even larger and was told by the GM that dependant on availability Plats get upgraded to the Artist suite and Diamonds to at least Artist but preferably Gallery. The Suites have Raffles club access which is very decent.
The Fairmont also is pretty decent in Jakarta and gives great upgrades for Accor status holders

Hi Jase05, thanks for your input. I'm looking forward to trying the Artist Suite and Club Lounge at Raffles JKT on my next stay....
Where is your favourite Accor property in JKT or even Indonesia? Open to suggestions. Garrya Bianti Yogyakarta has caught my eye.

Haven’t stayed at too many outside of Jakarta, Bali or Lombok and the ones we stayed at in other areas were fairly basic but comfortable. Raffles, Fairmont and Pullman Thaksin are the 3 best in Jakarta IMO

Fair enough. I really like the Swissotel then. My 2nd pick would be the Mondrian - it's very new, is in quite an interesting area, and has a great rooftop pool. The only downside is no EL and the newer build means slightly small rooms - although the furnishings are high quality. I stayed during the Mondrian's soft launch so I can't comment on how good the status recognition is now.

I wouldn't bother staying at the Fairmont unless you'll fork out for Gold room which brings EL access. I'd also advise you specifically NOT to stay at the Mercure ICON... just google the reviews :)
Swissotel it is! I have stayed across the road at the Carlton before.

Mondrian very handy since my conference is at the hospital ... but EL is winning for me.

Thanks all. Shall report back on Sofitel / Hill St / Swissotel.

General comments: Last minute trip to Hobart, already in Tas, but wasnt planning on visiting Hobart, so booked the day before- and surprised at price- $180- for a Friday night during school holidays.
Upgraded to top floor larger room. Welcome gift arrived shortly after- and no idea how they came up with a birthday, though we have stayed here previously on wifes birthday but in Feb.
Chocolate hour was better than last visit- a lot more- but was similar to what we had as a welcome gift, so didnt participate, as we were also going out for dinner.
Overall, enjoyed our stay.

Property: The Sebel Sydney Martin Place
Status: Accor Plus Gold
Room booked: Deluxe King Room
Rate: Accor Plus Hotel Escape Sale ($442.40 for 2 nights)
Room upgraded/type: No
Free internet: Yes
Free breakfast: No breakfast or bar facility on site.
Early check in/late out: Yes, late checkout offered till midday.
Welcome drink: Yes, via QR code in room.
Welcome amenity: No, and no status acknowledgement.
Parking: None on-site, however they do have a partnership with Wilson Parking (60 Elizabeth Street) offering a discounted 24-hour flat rate of $70 on weekdays and $40 on weekends.
Recommend: Yes, if the price is right.

Had a couple of work events in the city so decided to try this hotel as it was a nice mid-way point between the two event venues.

Received an email from the hotel's Guest Services Agent the day prior to check-in providing a general welcome and detailed information for check-in, parking, breakfast, mini-bar and other services offered by the hotel. Hotel is conveniently located directly opposite the Elizabeth Street entrance to Martin Place Train/Metro Station and shares its footprint with some corporate offices and suites (apparently including that of the Hon. Bob Carr).

Check-in itself was straightforward. No acknowledgement of Accor Plus/status and no welcome amenity, however the front desk agent was very amiable and helpful in providing hotel info or answering any questions. Was advised that the hotel has no on-site restaurant or bar facilities, but Welcome Drinks could be ordered through a QR code in the room and would be brought up to the room (although I never ultimately availed myself of them). Requested a late checkout and was offered midday (standard checkout is 11am), but was also advised to check with the front desk on the day of departure* to see if they could offer any later.

As mentioned, the hotel has no on-site restaurant or bar facilities, however they do have an arrangement for breakfast with local cafes La Riviera and Piccolo Me. La Riviera (at 170 Phillip Street) is an all-day brasserie-style and opens for breakfast Monday–Friday from 7:30am to 11:00am. Piccolo Me (Shop 2, 80 Elizabeth Street) offers dine-in and takeaway, but also offers in-room dining which can be ordered via the QR codes in each room. It's open Monday–Sunday from 6:30am to 2:00pm. I visited there for breakfast and had a decent B&E roll + large FW for about $14 (which I thought was reasonable).

The hotel doesn't have any on-site pool/gym, however they do offer guests access to a swimming pool located off-site (an 8-minute walk from the hotel). Apparently they cover the paid entry and provide a towel, bag and water, although I didn't avail myself of the facilities so cannot attest to how well that all works.

Discovered that one of the two lifts seems to have a mind of its own on occasion. Jumped in on Level 8 and pushed the button for Lower Ground (i.e. Elizabeth Street hotel entry). Lift proceeded to Level 5, paused, then went back up to Level 7. Duty manager jumped in and swiped for Level 4. Lift proceeded to Level 4, paused, then started on its way back up again. Duty manager looked perplexed and we mentioned that it had just happened to us as well. She swiped again to stop at the next floor, jumped out when the doors opened and said "...I'll get onto that one." Heard the next day from one of business folk using the office suites in the same building that "...one of these lifts is a bit dodgy. It's a bit shaky and occasionally goes wherever it wants to go." 🤔

Room (823) itself was quite pleasant - 25m square - overlooking Elizabeth Street, with a kitchenette, microwave, bathroom with proper shower and 5 double power points readily accessible (excluding bathroom), 3 of which also incorporated USB A and C ports. Airconditioning was slightly fiddly to use, but once you wrestled control over it, it was quite effective. TV includes a Chromecast so you can stream your own entertainment to the big screen. I guess this is in lieu of not having any pay TV channels and otherwise only offering free-to-air channels. Sound-proofing is ok, although some noise could be heard from neighbouring rooms - nothing too disruptive, but never-the-less noticeable.

Wi-Fi is the standard Accor captive portal setup where you get free and fast(er) internet by logging in with your Accor ALL account. No issues with my work laptop (Windows machine), but my iPhone and iPad would bring up the captive portal, and as soon as you tapped into the username or password fields for signing into your ALL account, the captive portal would crash and you were disconnected from Wi-Fi. Eventually worked out that I could successfully accept the "anonymous" low-speed internet option and that would connect me. Once connected, I could bring up the captive portal page (this time opened in Safari) and force a logout, which would then take me back to the captive portal sign-in page where I could successfully log into my ALL account and obtain high speed Wi-Fi. With this done, I never had an issue reconnecting. So it works and the speed is decent, but it was definitely fiddly to get connected in the first instance.

Upon closer examination in the room, we identified that the mini bottle of red wine from the mini-bar had already been opened (although not consumed) as the seal on the screw cap was clearly broken. I took it down to the front desk to show them and ensure it wasn't added to the bill as a mini-bar usage charge - no issues there. Asked for a box of tissues whilst I was there as DejaBrew and DejaBrew+1 were both a bit under the weather and anticipating the remnants of the box already in the room wouldn't last long. Staffer went searching and eventually came back to apologise that there were no boxes as the order they'd submitted several days prior had yet to arrive. Must admit, this was a first for me at any hotel!!

All in all? I'd stay here again (which is good given I'm already booked to be back there in September!!) but it would be dependent on the pricing. Overall service is pleasant albeit a little mixed, but tissues aside, no major red flags (especially compared to my most recent Swissotel stay). My general impression is that it's used predominantly as a "business hotel" so even though sound-proofing is not perfect, the typical guest is not going to be your average family with young kids.

* Departing today so checked with the front desk about extending the late check-out. I was asked what time I wanted and I requested as late as they could offer me. They informed me they'd need to check with their manager (once the manager returned) and would call me in the room to confirm. Well... by 11:45am (at time I commenced writing this review) I still hadn't heard a peep from the front desk. As midday rolled around, I figured I'd received my answer and checked out. So now I'm sitting in the foyer of the Swissotel's Arches Bar, leeching off the hotel's free Wi-Fi in order to finish my review 😜

I had a stay at the IC Sydney a few years ago where all the spirits had been consumed and refilled with unknown liquids, been checking seals ever since. Interestingly the staff said they could track who it was as it had happened before and the other room had an earlier guest in common.
