Property: Ibis Carlisle City Centre
Status: Accor ALL Gold
Room booked: Double
Room upgraded: No. High floors further out of reach of broken elavator 😳. Carpark view room (close to stairs) allocated - at least parking is free and I can keep an eye on my rental.
Rate: Accor Small Business - Flex
Free internet: Yes
Welcome drink: Yes, x2
Early Check in/out: N/A but early check out is free…

Stopover driving EDI to the Lakes District. Possibly should have keep going to Windamere…

Edit: and the EFTPOS machine was one of those that *really* wants to charge (rip you off) in your home currency. I let it go at check in and just pressed £ amount. But buying a further drink tapping my phone was greeted with an error. Inserting the physical card was greeted with the option to pay in £ or $A…

The even scarier thing is that the CC transactions appear on my 28° MC as “Mercure (Grosvenor Adelaide)“! But revert to the correct hotel name - weird….

Overall opinion:
I'm always left a little disappointed at Sofitel's. I'm not sure if I'm expecting too much from these hotels, but in my mind I think of them as on par with the Park Hyatt brand. And as a Globalist with WoH, I find the service at Sofitel's as a Diamond has so far been very lackluster compared to most Park Hyatt's.

Positives at this property included the lounge which had a lovely spread and was very well presented. Equally, the breakfast was served in the restaurant and was of high quality. Bottled water at the reception was a welcome touch. Room was excellent, huge 65" televisions, very comfortable couch and bed.

Toiletries were Balmain and although acceptable, I thought suites were supposed to have Hermes.

Below are the disappointing aspects of my stay.

TLDR is -
  • check in experience unsatisfactory.
  • turn down promised but never delivered.
  • restaurant staff refused to seat me for dinner despite restaurant having plenty of space.

Check in
Came at 1pm and asked if the room was ready. Lady who assisted me indicated that the room I was blocked into was not quite ready yet, but I could take a room on a lower floor on level 10 if I wanted a room now. Otherwise I could come back at 2pm and she would expedite the cleaning of the room on level 20.
Came back at 2:30pm and the room was not ready. Man promptly tapped away at the computer and then proceeded to give me the level 10 room. Indicated I wasn't happy with this as I could've had that room 1.5 hours ago - suddenly the level 20 room became available.

Turn down service
Asked on check in if turn down service was available. Indicated that it was available, but only on request. Therefore, requested daily turn down.
First night - room had no turn down service. Rang once, and the operator indicated she would send someone up. Rang again 1 hour later, operator apologised but said that someone had already come (they had not). Operator indicated she would send someone up. Rang a third time 1.5 hours later and got transferred to the duty manager who stated the hotel isn't doing turn down services and had no idea why I was given the information previously. Duty manager indicated that if I want an additional service, it would have to be before 5pm. Said 'yes' to this for all subsequent days.
Never received the additional service.

Restaurant (Suzette)
Came on second night for a la carte. Mains took over an hour to come out despite restaurant being far from full. However, waiter was extremely apologetic and comped all drinks. Food was excellent.

Came again on fourth night at 8pm to try the buffet. Staff at entrance indicated that all servers were very busy right now and could not provide service. Indicated I just wanted the buffet. Staff member asked me to come back at 8:30pm, and to please move aside as there were people behind me. Looked at the restaurant, which was less then 2/3 full and after an argument the staff member seated me. Service just fine with no issues, and restaurant remained only 2/3 full the entire dinner.

Buffet dinner was okay. Priced $32 more then lunch at $119 due to the addition of addition of Bugs and Whole Baked Salmon. However, salmon had been picked to the bone before I arrived, and was never replenished.

Just thought I'd provide an update on my stay at the Novotel hotel Sydney Airport as I checked out earlier today. Went to check out and was told that $26 would be charged to my card for the dinner I had last night at the restaurant. I found that odd since as an Accor Plus member I should get 25% off. Enquired and after talking with the restaurant manager the Accor Plus discount wasn't applied to my food bill.

Also restaurant stopped taking orders at 9:30 PM but luckily this kangaroo sneaked in before closing time. Food came out relatively quickly (25 mins) which isn't much of a surprise given there was only one other diner at the restaurant. Portion size and food was acceptable for price paid IMHO.

That being said, I didn't mention I was an Accor Plus member and figured the hotel's restaurant would sort that out given I booked directly with Accor as an AccorPlusSilver. I'm guessing I'll need to show my card whenever I dine in at these restaurants?

Yep, you need to let the restaurant know you're an Accor Plus member so they can manually calculate the discount based on the number of diners, number of Accor Plus members, and only apply it to food items (in Australia/NZ - you get a 15% flat discount on beverages in Asia)

The final cost after discount is then charged to the room as a single line item.

Overall opinion: Beautiful views from the 12 windows in the room on level 47. Very pleasant reception staff and club lounge staff. Absolutely undrinkable wine both in the club (supposedly champagne) and the Shiraz in the room and another glass of house Shiraz sent up as a replacement. By contrast any other drinks I had over the weekend elsewhere were fine, so it wasn't just my tastebuds.

The club offered afternoon tea (2-4pm I think) followed by evening drinks which were in 2 sessions with a break in between - guests were entitled to one evening session per room per day, not both evening sessions. Breakfast was 7-11am. Prebooking was requested but I didn't bother to book for afternoon tea or breakfast and didn't have any trouble, got great tables every time with great views. The food was ok but that's all. A lot of high fat or deep fried options for the afternoon tea and evening drinks. There was an à la carte breakfast menu or the buffet. More deep fried items sneaked in with breakfast eg hash browns rather than toast with the eggs benedict. Ordered the shakshuka one day and it was more like soup but it was ok once I soaked up the excess juice with the one slice of sourdough that accompanied it.

I like this hotel, especially the views, but I wouldn't bother with club access again. Club Millésime in the Sofitel Adelaide had way better catering when I was there, including pouring Veuve Clicquot.

Forgot to say - a very nice arrangement of native flowers appeared on the table on day 2. No idea if this is standard or an apology for the awful wine.

Praline Easter bunnies came with bottled water for the evening turn down service.

This was the surprise view when I opened the shutters one morning -

And another thing - I transferred Hilton points and ALL points to QFF on the same day last week. The Hilton points showed up immediately in my QFF account. The ALL points are still not showing up despite the supposedly fancy new alliance between QFF and ALL. ( Yes I know it says up to 8 weeks or 6 weeks or something, but if HH can do it straight away .... )

Fancy alliance or not… Accor technology still sucks compared to the likes of hilton and Marriott

Property: Peppers Silo Launceston
Status: Accor Plus Gold
Room booked : Gorge King
Room upgraded: n/a
Rate: Flexible plus breakfast
Free internet: Yes, good enough for chrome casting while multiple other devices being used
Late checkout: 12 noon on day of departure
Welcome drink: 2 drink vouchers provided, redeemed for any of the wines by the glass at the restaurant
Other: stayed for a long weekend so hotel was full and was also hosting a football team so I didn’t ask for an upgrade.

Standard room in the original silo part of the hotel was very large and well furnished. On level 2 so overlooked outdoor dining area but I didn’t notice any noise. Room has balcony with door that opens and a table and chair.

Welcome amenity was decent being a bottle of Tasmanian wine and some shortbread biscuits.

Hotel restaurant was very good so we ended up eating there both nights for dinner to take advantage of accor plus discount.

For breakfast it is a la carte and this was also good. I prepaid breakfast because of long weekend and surcharges meaning that accor plus wasn’t as effective on the Sunday and Monday as it would otherwise have been. This was a good choice because we ordered a main dish and multiple sides each and 2 hot drinks each and all was covered by the inclusive breakfast.

All up this was a good stay and I would not hesitate to return.

Probably my favourite Accor property in Australia. Always get great service and status recognition and the food is excellent

Does anyone know if you purchase an Accor Plus membership during your stay and have been charging dining and services to your room, if you can retrospectively claim the plus discounts at checkout?

You might get away with it but I would be doing it with the expectation it will fail. They clearly state that to get the benefit you need to show the card prior to dining.

Apologies in advance if this is the wrong thread to comment on Accor restaurant "stays", but thought I share mine from earlier today:

Property: Tesoro @ Mövenpick Hobart (Restaurant)
Status: Accor Plus Silver
Food Ordered: $39 prix fixe lunch deal consisting of an appetizer (Calamari), main course (Pizza) and desert (Affogato) and a large latte for good measure (unsure on price of that)
Food upgraded?: Not as far as I can tell but I haven't ate here as a pleb
Total Price : ~$33 which I reckon would be about 25% off my bill as an Accor+ member

Overall, I would recommend this restaurant particularly if you are an Accor+ member since they honour the discount. Was it the greatest quantity of food I received for $30? Absolutely not, but I doubt many of us would stuff our faces with $1 McDonald's double cheeseburgers! Food tasted great and was well prepared!

I had a somewhat similar experience, having signed up for Accor+ a couple days before my stay at a Novotel. I didn't realize I needed to tell hotel the restaurant that I was a member and was surprised to see the discount not applied. If I were you and supposing you find value in the program, I'd sign up and then during check out do as I did and act all surprised that the Accor+ discount is not applied. Once you sign up from the program your Accor profile (and digital membership card) should be updated within a day.

One specific offer Accor+ has right now for members is 40% off Accor stays booked with a Visa card in Asia-Pacific for stays to September 30, 2022. Although their red hot deals are sights to behold. For instance, I booked the Novotel Sydney Airport in a Deluxe room on Tuesday night for a Friday night stay and it cost $125/night. Not bad for a fairly premium hotel room!

Hope that helps.

Have never had a complaint with the food at Tesoro.
The breakfast there is top notch and the best part is it’s available all day which I love as some mornings you just don’t want to wake up early and head down for breakfast. When we stay there we often get up and grab a coffee to go and do a bit of walking or shopping and then head back mid morning for brunch and then freshen up

Update - ALL points took 5 days to show up in my QFF account. But QFF put a date on the transfer which was 3 days earlier than when I could see the points in my account 🙄

Rarely, if ever have I been able to see a TA booking in app/website. But usually no issues. But it doesn’t hurt to ask at checkin if they have your number.

I have never been able to see my corporate TA bookings in my Accor app.

I usually email a few days before to confirm - helps with upgrades/welcome gifts
