Just thought I'd create a thread for this - looking back over the last year, I thought I'd done a thread here as well as on Priority Club.

I'm a Gold member.

Status: Gold
Hotel: Hilton Brisbane
Date: 1 night, July
Room booked: Standard Double Double
Room received: King Executive

Received upgrade and swap to king (no base level kings available), which was nice. However, disappointed due to maximum noon comp check-out, and $50 per 2 hours after that. It was going to be another $50 to extend to 2:30pm, but about an hour before check-out I was told I could stay in the room until 2:30pm.

Exec Lounge service was great. Overall a nice stay but would have been great to get a comp 2:30pm check-out.

(FYI, for Golds, it's $10pp to upgrade to full breakie in restaurant.)

Hotel: Hilton Milan

Date June 22
Cost: 50,000 points, standard room reward
Booked: Queen Hilton Guest room
Got: Just that

Date: June 23
Cost: $449, booked through a third party provider
Stayed in the same room
A coughbersome way to book but was a way that allowed the nights to be booked

Got a welcome letter and internet and lounge access both nights. The lounge although relatively small is very comfortable and bright. The breakfast is such that lunch may not be needed. Plenty of drinks and finger food in the afternoon.

July 4
Cost: 200 euros
Booked: Queen guest room
Got: A slightly nicer room on a higher floor. The best part of this was early access. We were able to get in at about 0930 , after a rather early start in the Cinque Terra (long story), internet and lounge access. No letter this time.

Both stays there were water bottles in the room, but it wasn't clear that they were status related

This hotel is about 30 minutes walk from the Duomo and is perfectly placed for Central train station and the underground. Would have no problems staying there again.

booked: base king room
received: one class upgrade to deluxe room (no different to standard other than it's a higher floor)

I had been showing a 'superior' upgrade on hhonors.com on the day but as I find frequently occurs by the time I check in I don't get the room. the 'superior' room which is better than 'deluxe' is larger with a couch instead of a chair... missed out on that oh well.

choice between 1000 hh points / night or full breakfast in restaurant. took breakfast which was decent.

hotel is fine, I liked the compact but nicely done rooms and bathrooms. The hilton basically next door is almost ready to be opened, will try it next time.

- Like the other NZ Hiltons, no exec. lounge. Fair enough, I knew that well before I booked, but I find the practice here in Oz to offer some drink vouchers in lieu is an almost mandatory gesture in those cases. None were offered at Taupo.

Thanks for the detailed review swanning_it. I'm off to Hilton Queenstown in a month - what are my chances of being successful in getting some drink vouchers there? Should they be offered if I ask?

I look forward to the Queenstown report. I'm off there later in the year :)

I quite liked the queenstown Hilton. Booked basic room and got upgraded to a king wakatipu suite and full breakfast as a gold. Was there for 7 nights.

OT : Just back and the snow is pretty good over there this year :D

Nth Island was very ordinary but as an AU skier, rock hopping and ice is my forte!

The thing that really bothered me is the fact I didn't come a cropper once. Turned 50 last year and a bit wussy this year it would appear :(.

Property: Hilton Bonaventure Montreal
Room booked: 1 night king bed, 1 night 2 queen beds
Rate: CAD275 (about even money or a little in our favour at the time), 1 night 40k HHonors award)
Received: upgrade to king room, late check-out plus four hours

Probably the best breakfast and evening offerings of any North American Hilton I've ever been to but terribly overpriced property generally. Housekeeping entered twice on my last day, without even knocking, during the period I had been granted a late check-out. Then came a call from the front desk enquiring as to when I was leaving. They only had power adaptors for Europe and one solitary iDevice charger that required leaving your contraption at reception. No complimentary water and no HHonors desk.

Property: Hilton Petaling Jaya (Kuala Lumpur)
Room booked: King guestroom
Rate: MYR388 (~ $130)
Received: upgrade to executive room, late check-out plus four hours, fruit bowl, four chocolates, welcome back note, two expensive bottles of water wiped from the bill

Hands down this property is by far the best property I’ve stayed at anywhere in the world in terms of value for money. The room is huge and refurbished. The bathroom is huge with a separate tub and a rain shower. Big TV, desk and two sitting chairs. It’s possible to watch the TV in the living area from the bathroom. They did let themselves down on a couple of fronts, though. There was no information about executive benefits like lounge times, the pool had closed that day for maintenance and was not advertised on their website and, God help me, a call from reception 70 minutes before my provided late check-out enquiring as to whether I’d be extending my stay. Both times (this property and in Montreal) the call woke me. A late check-out is useless if you can’t use it.

Checking in tomorrow to HOTP again - checked reservation online, yes..... upgrade to relaxation suite again for two nights :p

Status: Diamond
Date: 20-21st July 2013
Property: HOTP
Booked: King Hilton Guestroom
Received: EF Relaxation Suite (1813)
Rate: $260

I was not expecting the suite upgrade to stick as the hotel is totally full, but it did and my 100% suite upgrade rate here has remained intact.

What I did find amusing was a HHonors welcome letter in my room with a temporary Blue card. I suspect for another guest :)

Have just had one of the best and one of the worse HH weeks.

Sydney for 2 nights, 2 rooms for the State of Origin( go QLD) and so well looked after. Eric in the lounge excellent. Now understand why everyone loves Glass - so good and staff so attentive even though hotel overflowing. Lounge - great food and friendly staff.

then

Hilton South Wharf. it has slowly been getting less friendly each time i stay. Had 2 bedroom unit booked for 2 nights. Checked 2 weeks ago when we were down for the rugby test(that australia won) that we'd have lounge access etc. told yes. on arrival .. no lounge benefits - only for diamonds. no waters - magic took 3 hours to bring up 2 extra pillows(daughter had just broken arm rollerblading -Alfred hospital - excellent). when they did arrive - no pillow cases and horrible old pillows. asked for better - couple of hours later 2 more delivered and with pillow casess this time. wife complained when checking out - i'd already left the hotel, at least the duty manager rang to hear her complaints later in the day. I've already booked my next Melbourne stay ... it will be a suite at the Hilton on the Park. If there's any dramas with this coming stay I'm back to the hyatt!!
