How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

The rates for Hilton Sydney has gone through the roof 2H of this year.. can't wait for the new motto by hilton. I used to like West Hotel but standards have gone down there

I got lucky on got 27 Dec for $370 but earlier Dec is around $500

No acknowledgement of status or even membership at checkin. Not sure if I got an upgrade. The bottled water in the room was labeled as “free for silver, gold and diamond - €3.50 for others” so I am not sure if that counts as a welcome amenity. I had breakfast each day so they must have noted I was HH diamond.

A very new hotel. The rooms are comfortable and a reasonable size. This could have easily been branded a DoubleTree.

One nice surprise with breakfast that there was no charge for barista coffee because I had oat milk. The staff member also said no charge for decaf either, but a charge for normal milk. The free auto coffee machine appeared to ba a good one with beans ground for each cup. The breakfast was quite a good spread with cooked to order omelettes. The only thing that let it down was the powdered scrambled eggs.

My welcome recognition as a Diamond elite was a purple key wallet. That was it! There was absolutely nothing in the room. Hilton Sydney now doesn't even offer the required 2 x bottles of water to elite guests.

Instead they have installed a water filter in each guest room (at the bathroom basin). Apparently as part of their "Travel with Purpose commitments". They claim it's to cut down on plastic water bottle waste. But they could of course use glass water bottles. And they are happy to sell you glass bottles of water for $8.00 each.

Hilton Sydney is also known to be mean with space available upgrades, despite such rooms still being sold at check-in time. The hotel was quite heavily booked but better rooms were still being offered throughout the day at a higher price. I was just after a modest corner room upgrade. While standing at reception, checking-in at ca 10pm, there were corner rooms still available. The staff consistently denied that they existed. So I went through the booking process in front of them and viola! there were corner rooms that I could purchase. Oh yes, but on a lower floor was now the explanation.

So a coughpy check-in experience.

The rest of my stay was fine. I thought the executive lounge was good although it's now in a windowless area and gets crowded for the evening drinks. And staff were all good.

Early check-in / late check-out: Requested a 1pm check-out (to come back from a Busselton Jetty tour) which was granted from the standard 11am check-out time.

As of the time of writing, it's the only international brand currently operating in Busselton (apart from a Sebel-affiliated resort outside town). Opened in 2024, the rooms still look pretty new and the location is excellent just across from the Busselton Jetty.

There is hotel parking to the left of the building when you come out of the lobby, however it'll likely be full in the evenings and you have to provide your car rego place to reception on check-in. There's free and ample all-day parking around the back of the hotel so finding a parking spot shouldn't be a problem.

There's an on-site bar and a restaurant on the ground floor and Diamond members can get free breakfast that has a range of hot buffet and continental options.

Only stayed one night on the way to Margaret River but enjoyed the stay and would return again if I pass through in the future.

Final note - there's only one type of twin room available and they were booked out completely on weekends and had limited availability on weekdays when I booked a few months in advance for Aug-Sep period. Availability may be worse during school/summer holiday periods as Busselton is a family-friendly destination so book early if you can. No problem with king bed room availability; they may need to re-configure their rooms in the future for less king and more twin rooms.

Early check-in / late check-out: Tried to check in at 6am after flying in overnight from Singapore. Room wasn't available but was granted access to the Executive Lounge for breakfast

The breakfast situation for Diamond members is a bit strange here. The first time I asked at reception they told me I could only have breakfast at the Executive Lounge. The second time I asked, the more senior staff member explained that Diamond members can get:

• complimentary access the Executive Lounge for a select range of hot breakfast as well as continental breakfast items; and/or
• a complimentary continental breakfast at Samuels on Mill Brasserie (the on-site restaurant) but you do not have access to the hot buffet breakfast (this attracts an additional fee)

I believe it's possible to do both in one morning but we didn't bother and stuck to the breakfast at the Executive Lounge (photos attached).

Ended up also eating dinner each night at the Executive Lounge (see photos) - only 3 dishes are provided but they were quite substantial akin to two main course dishes and one side dish. I will say that the evening food here is much better than Executive Lounge at Hilton Sydney that does 4 dishes but are more like canapes and finger food when I visited earlier this year.

Did leave one suitcase of luggage at the hotel in August for the stay here in September. No issue dropping it off and collecting it upon arrival.

Location was good just off St Georges Terrace and within walking distance to Elizabeth Quay. It's also inside the Perth public transport 'Free Transit Zone' but only took the free green/blue/red CAT buses to get around town.

Similar to Hilton Sydney, the room rates are higher during Mon-Thu (more business guests) and are lower during Fri-Sun (more holiday guests) which may help someone plan their future stay here.
