Just thought I'd create a thread for this - looking back over the last year, I thought I'd done a thread here as well as on Priority Club.

I'm a Gold member.

Got some more travel to do to Melbourne this Friday, so hoping to fly down Thursday night to sample the new Hilton.

I have a shub in an apartment that I procured partly for my parents. first task when I can afford it is to swap it out for shower alone.

Modern hotel in close proximity to the Grapevine Hills Mall. 2 bottles of water provided at check in and late check out of 1pm secured. Shuttle service prompt from airport after a quick call.




A microwave in a hotel room is always welcomed.

Unexpected stay thanks to AC cancelling a flight and not offering any assistance - I am clearly naive but I thought airlines had to provide transport, meals and hotel when they did that. Apparently not. Am hoping insurance will pay.

Straightfoward shuttle from the airport, but I just walked back the next day - it's not at all far. 2 bottles of water offered but refused. I had checked in online but at check in they offered the upgrade. Breakfast was free for continental, or $7 for full - continental was actually quite good so I didn't need it. Plenty of cold cuts, salad, pastries, cream cheese and other spreads etc. Gym is excellent, and a first for me - there was a half court basketball as well as a squash court! Had a sauna as well so pretty good facilities there. Had a quick look at the bar but ca$17 for a glass of wine made me decide sobriety was so in right now.

Appreciated the suite upgrade, but oddly there was zero light in the living room. I had to unplug and haul the coffee machine into the bathroom to read the instructions! And despite being 'newly renovated' (according to check in agent) the shower head in the dreaded shub looked like it was from the 70s and splurted water in 18532 different directions.

I did indeed, infact I lost count at 8984 the first time and had to start again!

That was another plus to mention, standard checkout time is midday! So plenty of time for counting.

I decided to try the Hilton just up the road from my previous stay at the Garden Inn. Again 2 x bottles of water offered and the $30 F&B credit applied each day. Bonnie & Clyde's Bar & Grill off the lobby was excellent each night. Great service and atmosphere along with tasty food, perfect. Shuttle ran on the hour every hour. Would stay again when in the area.

Exceptional staff throughout the hotel. Drinks vouchers given for each night of stay along with what has to be one of the best breakfasts going around with both local and western cuisine.

Arrived too late to experience lounge canapés, staff were great throughout the hotel. Breakfast was great with a spread of both local and western cuisine. Received one of the recently renovated rooms, they’ve done quite a nice job with them.

Check in staff were quite rude and overall feel from hotel was polar opposite to previous stay at Hilton Colombo. Showing its age but did appreciate the extra space. Bottle of wine and fruit platter in room, no wine opener need to go down to front desk to get opened.

Lounge is fantastic, very spacious with plenty of areas to get away from the crowds. Drinks and food is decent. Breakfast was had at the restaurant

1. Very hard mattress.
2. No pillows other than the cushions provided. Apparently there is a pillow menu but we never found it.
3. We had a high pitched wine in the lounge room all night that turned out to be the a/c. Fortunately as it was a suite we could close the lounge door and keep it out.
4. My usual corporate rate is not available at this hotel.
5. Breakfast only available for us in the exec lounge and not the restaurant which was strange.
6. Staff were excellent

I suspect we will not be rushing back there at this stage.

Update that I forgot:
My wife has no HH status and received a welcome letter and as a Diamond I didn’t.

At checkin it was noted they "wanted to upgrade my room" but couldn't as we'd booked two beds. My Teen and I didn't want to share, so we stayed with the Twin room. Room 918, facing one of the laneways, was nice and quiet. Two bottles of water each day.
Pillow menu, mini bar, room service were all through QR codes/an app.
Exec lounge access, though no brekky in there.

Continental brekky in Luci, which we used on Sat and Mon. $10pp upgrade to hot on Saturday, it was waived on Mon. Didn't have the $5+ espresso coffee options. Looking at the form on the table, we may have been able to not upgrade as I think we could have had an omelette included. Oh well.

Fine stay, nice location.

trying to decide if it's worth going direct with gold status from Amex Plat or with expedia and getting cash back works out about $200 cash back which is the difference between the 2.

What would the Continental or F&B credit be? Can it be updated to buffet for a small fee?

I think @Cynicor is likely right that you'll get proper full breakfast in Tokyo. However, is this a direct Hilton rate or through HC/FHR? If relying on Hilton Gold, I think you'll get breakfast for two and perhaps you'll have to pay for the kids?

it was direct with Hilton, can't find it on HC/FHR to compare.

I think i'd be ok with paying for the kids, 2 adults works out at ~$75 per day $300 over 4 days. I've had cash back on hotel stays reject before (Accor with Cash rewards) so it's probably worth the benefit.

Thanks, we booked direct. When I go into the booking I can already see it says we are in a Celebrio room which was more expensive so assume upgrade.

Bit of a win this evening.
Booked a king inland view room at Hilton Curio Maren at FtLauderdale on points and received an ocean view with balcony
Not bad for a humble silver ( who was diamond when booking the room a few months ago)
No breakfast but hey no complaints
