Just thought I'd create a thread for this - looking back over the last year, I thought I'd done a thread here as well as on Priority Club.

I'm a Gold member.

Got some more travel to do to Melbourne this Friday, so hoping to fly down Thursday night to sample the new Hilton.

About Hilton Sydney .... our room was on 35th floor right below Exec lounge and the noise from up there was bad especially during breakfast and booze time. I kept hearing things dropping on the floor, chair dragging etc ....
Good point. I try to avoid a room directly below any EL.

Property: Parmelia Hilton Perth
Booked: Queen guest
Rate: $100, one night (Sunday, early January). Booked a week before stay.
Received: Queen deluxe plus
Status: Diamond
Elite treatment: Breakfast, two waters, two tapas vouchers (but see below), newspaper, upgrade in advance, bottle of wine and two plates of chocolates in room on arrival. Tray charge waived for room service.

Had an 18 hour stay in Perth for two really quick meetings. Was a late arrival so lack of lounge in this hotel didn't worry me. Was just after the tennis so rates were very good, and cheaper than the new DT so figured the Parmelia a better option and more likely to get good treatment.

Could see at time of booking that Adelphi would be closed. Contacted Oswaldo and Stephanie in advance to see what alternatives would be offered, including a late arrival. As a result, had a good email exchange which confirmed comp bottle of wine (as I'd be too late for tapas) and an upgrade.

All delivered as promised. Breakfast was in a ballroom and a little poorer than usual. No barista coffee and no fresh juice. Jono did his best though to look after me. Tapas vouchers could be used for room service but Chef left at 10pm so I was too late. Had their excellent toasted sandwich for room service (just $14 for big sandwich, fruit, chips and water) - tray charge was waived.

Brief but good stay. Sure hope the EL comes through and is good.

All in all i was very happy with the treatment received in all hotels in all countries. The Tokyo Conrad is probably the best hotel i have ever been to. It is expensive but the rooms are top notch and equally as important the service is superb.

Pele.

Thought I'll share some pics of the newly renovated Ocean Suite and the Premier King Lagoon Suite. Just based on the views alone, I very much prefer these to the Conrad Suites wing which I've also stayed in many occasions. Amazing service as usual which is the reason why I kept going back there.

DT Penang
Booked: Base Room on points x 5 nights
Received: King One Bedroom Suite

Rather than bashing them on social media, I wrote to the GM after the less than desired first visit and was glad that he took the feedback seriously. This time around, I noticed a special "task force" team from DT KUL that was sent to oversee the operations. Big improvements in housekeeping and also morning breakfast seemed to run more smoothly. Hope they keep up the service when the team is gone and it will be great. Although there's not much dining options around the hotel, DT offers free shuttle runs to the city and also further up to the Batu Ferringhi area which were really convenient (tip: prebook as seating is limited).

What was the lagoon suite like in terms of other people swimming by and noise?

There were some noise of kids floating down the lagoon at times but not constant. Put it this way, I’m quite sensitive to noise and would have migrated to the Suites pool if it had bothered me. I also didn’t have any uninvited “landing” on the decking area of the suite as what I’ve read a while ago. All these despite being in peak travel period for SEA and the lagoon on the other wings being closed.

Going to the wrong suite sounds like something I'd do (by mistake) because I didn't recognise one from another :)

It really is a great hotel with impeccable service.

Haha, you won’t mistook this one as it has 2 x sun lounges and in a corner vs the normal lagoon rooms with only the table and chairs and 1 x sun lounge. I heard of some horror stories of people swimming up to the deck to use the sun lounges.

Some memorable recent stays, for various reasons:

Status: HH Diamond.
Property: Hilton Tokyo Odaiba
Booked: King room
Received: King deluxe room
Nice room, although I got in too late to visit the exec lounge. Breakfast was a good spread.

Property: Hilton Tokyo
Booked: King room
Received: King exec
When I checked in I was told they normally would upgrade to a Jnr Suite but they were sold out so would I like to pay for an upgrade to a suite! WTF? I said no rather emphatically. So spent the night in an exec room. I think like Sydney the only difference is the dressing gown in the closet. The exec lounge was shut for renos, so was directed to the bar for two hours of drinks and canapés. They were actually quite good. The only thing was as I was alone, I was directed to the bar or a bench seat. Even though I asked if I could sit at one of the tables I was told they were all taken. I guess mr Invisible and his extended family were staying.

Property: Hilton Narita
Booked: King room
Received: King exec?
There is no exec lounge so I was given a voucher for one drink and one snack. I got a beer and was presented with a nice range of snacks. I also chose to order a salad whilst I had another two beers in total. At checkout I was only charged the salad. :)

Property: Hilton London Paddington
Booked: Twin room
Received: Exec twin (high floor)
A nice room which had two single beds. Good exec lounge offering of food and drinks. Very convenient to the HEX.

Wow. Just, wow! Never have I seen such lack of ability by hotel staff.

Room 1: We got to the hotel at about 1100 so we said we were more than happy to drop our bags and come back. We were told our room was ready so that was a bonus. We headed up to room 402. Now my profile is very clear that I like a high floor away from the elevators. This was anything but. So we headed back down to ask if there had been some misunderstanding with accessing my profile. Apparently I had just been offered the first room the staff member had seen - so the only issue with my preference was that it had not been considered at all. (Note that it is a ten floor hotel, so the fourth level is about as low as possible.)

Room 2: The staff member had a look and said we could have room 825 but it was not ready. As we were expecting to drop our bags anyway we did just that and went for a walk. At about 1400 we came back to be given our keys. Now, on the eighth floor the rooms go from 1 to 25. up one side and back the other, so room 25 was actually closer to the elevator that the previous 402. Back downstairs. by this time time my travelling companion was hiding near the elevators as I was starting to fume!

Room 3: The staff member said she was sorry she didn't realise it was closer (than 402). What! Has she never walked the floors to see the bl**dy product she is bl**dy well selling? I was gobsmacked. She then had another look and offered us room 811. She made a point of calling house-keeping to check the room was good to go. We got upstairs to find the door ajar and room untouched since the previous occupant had left it!

Room 4: Back downstairs, and I asked for them to call us a taxi and book us into another hotel. This time we were served by a very apologetic duty manager offering all sorts of reasons about computers crashing and info not available about clean rooms. I really don't give a flying #### why you stuffed up. I do give a #### that you fix it. She offered us room 901! o_O See where I am going with this? She said it was a junior suite and there highest level of room and there were two doors between the corridor and bedroom. (Actually there aren't.) She offered to take us up to it and show us. So upstairs. Again. There was the suite with a king bed in the bedroom and fold out bed in the lounge. *sigh* My travelling companion was happy with the sofa bed as she isn't troubled by corridor/elevator noise, so we accepted - grudgingly.

Whilst we were out a fruit platter was delivered to our room with an unsigned form letter apologising for "the discomfort or distress you might have experienced". Semantics, I know, but that is not taking responsibility for ####ing us around.

Footnote: it was only later that we noticed the bathroom was missing the toilet roll holder, the fridge door didn't close properly, and the pod coffee machine was missing coffee pods.

Elite treatment: upgraded room with lounge access, breakfast in either lounge or restaurant, water bottles in room each day.

For those considering a stay here with a car, recommend you to to secure parking website and book at wintergarden; still direct access to the hotel (in fact, I snagged the park directly across from the door leading to the lift!) at less than a third of the price.

Property: West Hotel Sydney
Booked: King Waratah Premium
When: Right now
Rate: AUD420 then discounted by 80 with Amex
Received: As booked
Status: Diamond
Elite treatment: 2 drinks vouchers and late checkout

When checking in, said no upgrade was available. 1 suite was still showing on the app... I didn't ask about it though as I was thinking of having a late checkout like 4pm.

Room is small but still quite newish looking. According to the room description, I should see the Barangaroo skyline. But I see more of the freeway and the apartment then that skyline... This is on the highest floor - 8th.

The person who checked me in was warm and friendly.

Yet to try the breakfast tomorrow morning.

Unfortunately the breakfast at West hotel has been “enhanced”. No longer are you able to order from the menu which I used to enjoy over HSYD’s breakfast at Glass.

Yes, similar to DT Mel’s except that you can have the bacon and eggs.

Yes had breakfast there this morning. Buffet only.

The service at the restaurant was quite average. Received a SMS asking if my stay was rated 9/10, so I sent back my comments regarding the service there.

You could have accepted begrudgingly as well. That is so poor on the service recovery, Rooms 3 and 4 shouldn't have happened. Will make a point of not booking there!

Such a come down after F flights and Hilton Paddington
