Just thought I'd create a thread for this - looking back over the last year, I thought I'd done a thread here as well as on Priority Club.

I'm a Gold member.

Got some more travel to do to Melbourne this Friday, so hoping to fly down Thursday night to sample the new Hilton.

It would be the master king suite, although it looks the same as a king from the photos except the bath is against the window instead of the alcove.
I thought it was a bath too from the photos I’ve seen until I noticed the button, pressed it and voila, the most powerful spa so far experienced at HSYD. :) That thing has a mind on its own too and will turn on every time it thinks that the temperature has dropped to a certain degree.

Made it back to MEL today after the KIX debacle and had to fly from NRT.

Last night in Osaka was at Hilton Osaka. Room was ready at 10am and was upgraded from a king guest room to executive king. Diamond amenity was some mochi and chocolate cookies.

As boomy warned me above, the Hilton in comparison to the Conrad Osaka where we spent the previous three nights, was in a different league. We stayed at the Hilton the last few times in Osaka, but now that we've experienced the Conrad, that will now be the hotel of choice. We were just so well looked after at the Conrad.

I thought I was at the Curio for breakfast when the chef brought out my partners eggs florentine the other day.

Update on the HSYD concept King Guestroom (sorry, no photos). Overall, it has a bit of the Curio colour theme of dark teal/black/dark wood. The room looked bigger with some changes to the furniture. The glass workdesk is gone (thank goodness), replaced by a nice comfy looking reclining chair with foot rest, round glass coffee table and cushion placed on the window ledge to sit on. TV is now mounted with shelve/table below it. New power outlets by the bedside inc USB (handy). Zero change to the washroom. Also gone is the annoying water/wine autocharge thingy by the bedside table. Overall, a nice fresh change and a definite improvement.

So there is no desk in the room?

I noted on a recent stay in a deluxe room (cough upgrade) that the old Hilton style radio had been placed by a simpler hotel unit that had a USB port built in.

A good way to add a USB port without having to alter sockets

Canopy Reykjavik, Iceland
3 night stay
Booked lowest room, received 1 level upgrade.

Great hotel, can be noisy as it's in the square. Great location, has evening snack and drinks for all and a great breakfast. Also, their thing is music and they have hundreds of vinyl records and players for borrowing. Overall room decor and service level is between Hilton and Conrad. Feels like it is targeted towards younger people and would be a bit more hipster.

Curio Reykjavik Konsulat, Iceland
2 night stay
Booked lowest, received 3 level upgrade to Diplomat Suite

Really nice, excellent service. More upmarket than the Canopy with nicer room decor, above level of Conrads. Hotel itself has no lounge and offers less in terms of breakfast, lounge or evening nibbles etc. Also has a good location, as both are only about 200m from each other.

No complaints about either. I would probably head back to the Curio over the Canopy because I don't need the free stuff and the room is more comfortable.

Conrad Hong Kong

13-17 sept booked...free night voucher, 2 points nights and 1 paid night - only stayed for 3 hours...didn’t know about the Super Typhoon that was coming until reception and EL staff told us about. A few quick phone calls and back to the airport for next qantas flight home...got to experience the fine dining and bubbles in the Pier again.

Ken in the EL remembered us from our last visit and looked after us so we’ll.

Plus we’d been upgraded to a harbour view room.

Hilton Garden Inn Bali Ngurah Rai Airport
1 night stay - base reward booking @5000 points.
Upgraded to 1 bedroom suite
Diamond

Just transiting on the way to Malaysia, so booked this room at the bargain price of 5000 points. Recognised as diamond and treated well.

Hotel is actually quite nice. No lounge but facilities are good. Nice big pool, breakfast buffet was not enormous by asian standards but quite decent. Rooms are very sound proofed, being next to the airport. Free shuttle to the airport too.

If you were looking for a base in Bali, this hotel would be good.

I'm going there early November and have booked 2 rooms (adjoining) via the 5000 points * 2 (one night only). Also Diamond, what would be a possible upgrade option? Any other perks or tips?

Standard YMMV but an upgrade from the base room to a suite is pretty good!

My room was facing out to the street. No noise at all but would have been nice to overlook the pool. Could ask for that. Shuttle bus runs every 30 minutes on the clock, so 1pm,1.30pm, etc. We got picked up at the airport but apparently you're meant to book but it was no issue.

It's not a resort, so you'd need to venture out each day but if that's what you're doing, then I think it's a great hotel to come back to at night. Good luck with the upgrade!

I know this has been mentioned before but is it possible to have elite benefit when booking through an agent such as Amex Travel. I know some members says it’s possible and if it is how do you go abouts doing it? Much appreciated.

Officially you need to book via the Hilton website/app to be eligible for elite benefits but in the end it’s up for each property to decide and there are indeed plenty reports of members getting full benefits when booking via 3rd party.

Property: DT MEL
Date: 2 nights, Sept 2019
Status: Diamond
Booked: Standard twin
Received: high level window twin (1106), water, multiple drinks vouchers. No coffee tax (a frequent visitor perk, not a HHD perk)

My most disappointing stay at this property. I had a long chat to Paige about the deficiencies. Nothing major but lots of little things that added up:

A new staff member in the dining room at dinner. She was meant to be supervised to help her out but the supervisor was MIA. This meant she was a bit flustered when it got a bit busy, and things were missed and orders mixed up.

It took quite a wait to be noticed waiting for a table at dinner and breakfast the next day. Again the orders were mixed up. A few other slip up as well.

To top it off, the lifts couldn't be called from the 11th floor, so a walk down the stairs.

Paige offered me a bottle of wine but as I was heading off o/s I declined. When I checked out I found my dinners had been comped instead.

Good service recovery, but poor service that required it.

Self confession, I don’t even know where the stairs are even after all this time (I know I should always look in case of emergency)

Sounds pretty poor service indeed.

Btw, have a great trip JT wherever you are heading off to! :)

They are next to the lifts! And I am just doing a quick SR around Asia - back on the weekend.

Property: Hilton Garden Inn Santiago Airport
Date: 1 night, Sept 2018
Status: Gold
Booked: Deluxe King
Received: Deluxe King, 2 drinks vouchers, buffet breakfast with any coffee (but the filter coffee was better than the Cappuccino).
Young man on the desk when we arrived did not seem to be struggling with English but he must have had things a bit mixed up - he told us either breakfast or points, also that we could choose from a "snack bar" for breakfast. All worked out well in the morning though.

If you guys had to choose between HSYD and Curio. Which would you choose? I haven’t stayed at any of these two properties so would like so advice.
