Just thought I'd create a thread for this - looking back over the last year, I thought I'd done a thread here as well as on Priority Club.

I'm a Gold member.

Got some more travel to do to Melbourne this Friday, so hoping to fly down Thursday night to sample the new Hilton.

For those who stay at the MEL DT, you might be interested to hear that Janet will be finishing up in a fortnight.

I have told her that she will be missed. She would run the restaurant of an evening single handed, whilst being attentive to everyone.

HSYD. Another one level upgrade ."company policy, I can ask the General Manager if you like". No thanks. One more stay then I'm done with this property.

Property: Hilton Garden Inn Hong Kong
Booked: King Guest Room
Received: King Harbour View Suite (top floor)

Despite my disappointing last visit I couldn’t resist the cheap rate ($HKD700 compared to $HKD2700 at Conrad) so returned to HGI for my HK short stopover.

This time scored an upgrade to the best room in house - the top floor 2002 suite. Huge difference between the super tiny rooms and the suite with separate living room and big bathroom but I wouldn’t be counting on regular diamond upgrades as there are only 3 suites in this hotel.

After long flight over was hoping to freshen up in the rooftop pool but sadly it was closed.
Can’t comment about the breakfast as I skipped it and took 750pts instead.

The major issue with this property is the inconvenient location but for a short stay, if the price is right it can be overlooked.

Inconvenient if you want to be island side. Still only a few blocks from Mong Kok and about 400m to rail station.

Conrad is a bit of a hike to Admiralty as well.

It’s not the most pleasant walk from YMT station to HGI, especially with luggage or at night. Admiralty to Conrad is all indoor walk in a much more civilised area.

Conrad Hong Kong
Booked Deluxe King using HH Points.
Got Executive King Peak view on the top (61st) floor.
Very good two night stay. Room in excellent condition but bathrooms are now dated and need a spruce up. Bathroom was fine, just dated. Took breakfast in the Garden Court Restaurant. Very good. Executive Lounge was not busy and I thought evening food was a notch up on the most recent stay a few months ago. Very generous spirit pours. Given a late check out to 6.00pm (3.00pm without asking at check-in and extended to 6.00pm on asking in the Lounge) and used the lounge for 90 minutes after that before going to HKG. Little traffic and taxi to Airport Express was $HK27. As in the past, what keeps me coming back is the staff.

A first for me tonight. Checked into MEL DT to find I have been upgraded to a 13th floor balcony room. They are full and no one had booked it so mine it is.

That used to be standard diamond upgrade when DT opened, before they changed their room categories.

Can you open the balcony door?
It was locked last time I stayed in one of those rooms.

There is a security bolt at the top which is unlocked.

I think they are only on the 13th floor. But it is raining so I am not going to stick my head out to check.

I am back here next Tuesday so I will probably be on the second floor next to the elevator - just to remind me not to get my expectations up!

When you’re outside next time look up at the building, you’ll see two floors with balconies :)

I thought MEL buildings did away with the 13th floor? When I used to work there most tend to put the plant rooms on the 13th floor and the numbering in the lifts go from 12-P-14 etc.

Property: West Hotel Sydney, Curio Collection by Hilton
Booked: Acacia King
Received: Banksia King (I was told it was an upgrade to a room with a view but the view wasn't very desirable)
Rate: 46,000 points

Received an early check-in but had to ask about complimentary drink vouchers for Diamond members. The lady at check-in was surprised that I had not received them. Choice of wine, bear, cider, basic spirits and soft drinks - one pp.

We really enjoyed breakfast which consisted of a small buffet including fruit salad, bircher muesli, rice pudding, fresh juices, cereals, toast and pastries. We had a choice of anything from the cooked menu plus espresso coffee.

Even though the rooms were small I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Staff were very friendly and obviously enjoyed working there.
