I'm off to PEK shortly with a friend of mine, and we're on two seperate bookings but travelling together on SYD-PEK and PVG-SYD sectors.

Anyway to cut a long story short, I was trying to have us seated together but apparantly as I was allocated 24J my friend couldn't be allocated 24K as he isn't a QC member or high tier frequent flyer. I spoke with someone who said they'd need to email somebody higher to have the seat allocated to him. Have since spoken to somebody else and they say they aren't sure if that worked or not, however they will too send the request in.

Anyway I checked checkmytrip.com after I got off the phone and my friends seat allocation says 24K and 24K for both sectors. Says the same thing on the Qantas "My Booking" section. Mine says 24J on both sites for both flights.

Can I safely assume that all is now well given both websites read the right allocation, or will it still be dependant on somebody higher allowing it? Basically.... is checkmytrip ever wrong! Thanks

I have found checkmytrip to be accurate but in the last 24 hours when reservations hands over to airport checkin control, checkin has power to change things - although such changes are also reflected in checkmy trip.

Remembering that a higher status traveller might convince the counter staff to move them if they check in before you

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I've heard this happens with UA but I understand that QF will only move a passenger for good reason - give a bassinet to passengers with a baby. Although if it is a Chairman's lounge member they are even hesitant to do this and will usually speak to the CLounge member first.

I have also heard of QF moving people to get family groups together. I have also heard of QF upgrading people to get access to a bassinet or put a family together.

C/M/T trip reflects what Amadeus "Knows" about your booking and generally reflects seating until ~1½ days before the flight, and even after that it is pretty consistent.

There are variances, with my recent thread, C/M/T continued to indicate a confirmed 46C (Even though I sat in row 35).

Thanks, I'll just have to keep an eye on it. The bookings should be linked so one would hope if they change one of our seats they should keep us together. I'm pretty impressed I scored row 2 of Y given atm I'm just QC bronze.
