Has anyone stayed at the Novotel Citygate Hotel near HKG airport? Is it any good?

Need to find somewhere to overnight...
If just overnighting this is about as convenient as it gets, apart form the Regal which is much more expensive.

The hotel is pretty good, although I have not used any other hotel services other than the room. Have always arrived too late and departed to early to use any of the facilities.

Are you serious???? Great..... so that means I can only check in 3 hours before flight departure??? Which means only 2.5 hours in the F lounge...

Is the WING the lounge near immigration? Or is it near Gate 60 something?
A day return Airport Express to/from Kowloon costs HKD90, Check in, catch a return and be back in less than an hour.

Some have been known to do this just to extend one's Wing experience using this method.

As a WP, after checking in and arriving at the airport, head to the CX end (Southern or "Hall B"). After you proceed through emigration and x-ray turn immediately to the left and it's a short walk to the Wing's Flounge entrance.

See this map link:
(Select Level 7 "Check-in and Airline Lounges", then click "Airline Lounges" from the menu - You will see "The Wing"'s location pointed out towards the bottom of the image.)

If you go to the Wing you must duck into the J longe section to see the Loooooooooooooong bar - it's really very long!

I have been into the WING before. I could not find the Short Bar and I don't remember seeing the Long bar.

I think I was too busy with the Noodle bar :p

How many hours before a flight does the CX check in open at HKG? I can't find any information on the HK airport or CX websites.

Why worry about the long/short bars?

IMHO, these bars are nothing special. YMMV

Perhaps my perspective was tainted by my 2005 SG wing experiences, rather than my more recent ones.

Anyway's Here's CX's information on this:

As a QF WP the Haven is your oyster. This is the page you should be looking at:
As for check-in, if flying CX ex HKG, you can do so at HKIA between 50 minutes and 48 hours before the flight using CX's Self-Service Check-In Kiosks and bag-drop.

I think they are just interesting to see. I would take my glass of Moet, leave my laptop downloading what it needs to for the journey and wander in just to see the bars.

I thought the Haven was a proper restaurant... it just looks like a help your self buffet like in the business lounge.

How long can you have a cabana for? Can you actually sleep in there for a few hours?

They have table service for drinks and it's no J lounge buffet. BBQ pork buns for breakfast are my favourite. It is not as good as the SYD F lounge in that regard in that food is not made to order.

I have used it three times for overnight stays. It is convenient and quite new/modern. The rooms are clean and modern. Not huge, but certainly not shoe boxes either. They have a free shuttle bus to/from the airport.

My arrivals have always been mid to late evening (7pm to 11pm), and departures always early morning (7am to 9am). So my time in HKG has been limited and I appreciate the convenience of being escorted to the shuttle bus and delivered direct to the hotel.

I would use it again for any overnight transits at HKG.

As Simon posted, 'tis no J buffet. Before the opening of the Qantas MEL/SYD Flounges 10 months ago, the Wing/Pier were widely regarded as the best (oneworld) First Class lounges in the region (TC3) and perhaps in the top 10 in the world.

The service is attentive, you won't go thirsty unless you wish to. The Haven has a variety of food available; small servings but regularly topped up. There are evening carveries, generous sashimi spreads - one would not go hungry.

How long is a piece of string? I have spent up to 90 minutes in one, showering and relaxing after a tiring flight. I have heard stories of several hours.

FWIW, the Pier does not have 'cabanas ' but does have "Day Break" rooms where the 1st class lounge guest can indeed rest for several hours in private.

They draw the line at delivering drinks "room service" style, so you are limited by your TBD (Time Between Drinks) ...

But surely if two people are relaxing one can be sent out for drinks wilst mrssimongr rests?
