Hilton robes and slippers

Unfortunately, some hotels replace the slippers daily if they can"t see the old pair (ie +1 has already put [hidden] them into the suitcase!!); so sometimes after a week's stay, we could end up with 14 pairs of slippers:oops::oops::oops:. Don't get me started on the toiletries...despite a permanent ban that I have placed on her, she seems to take no notice....!

My cousin, Debbie, who lives in England, INSISTS that I bring her toiletries and the such from planes and hotels!

I have given her so many items over the years. Both she and her daughter, Amy can't wait to see what I bring every time I visit.

The only things I take for personal use are some of the better moisturisers as I find them convenient when flying short haul.

We did the same. However when the Brisbane floods hit. Mr GPH made up a heap of emergency kits with shampoo soap tooth brush etc etc and donated. They were a big hit at our collection centre in the Redlands
Same here-I figured i had enough shampoo, soap, small tubes of toothpaste+toothbrushes to last until i am 150 so lifeline gladly accepted the excess.

My god, I have been missing out! Never even thought to take the slippers. Have always taken the good quality toiletries but slippers weren't even on the radar. Is anyone else amused by the differing sizes of the toiletries in Hilton at the moment? From very small, almost one use only size up to it would last at least a couple of weeks. Doesn't seem to have any type of correlation with the room you are in....

For us it's hard to find slippers that are actually big enough!

When we do it's go for it - otherwise we leave them.

Doesn't stop the mrs from collecting, in fact she is on a winner as they are usually too small for me

I have the same smallness issue with the slippers for most establishments in Asia... kids are always well receiving of these souvenirs though!

I think this thread is one of the more crass I have read on any similar blog for a long time.

Taking multiples of anything just because you can seems to be a symptom of the 'me first', entitlement society we live in today. Its okay, if a complimentary item has been (part) used by a guest, be it on a plane or in a hotel but emptying the bathroom of unused toiletries or taking all the coffee/tea/sugar satchels in a room seems like extravagant arrogance to me.

I once asked a passenger on an SQ long haul why they needed the seven or eight toothbrushes they were putting in their bag early in a flight. Oh, they have plenty, just ask of one if you want was the reply - no reason - just a comment that there were plenty so why not.

The people who mentioned that they donated some to charity or used them after the floods is commendable, but sort of misses the point - why collect so many in the first place?

Mind you, even I have accepted a business or first class amenity kit the first couple of times they were offered and have taken the pyjamas when used but not if I do not need them - otherwise the house would be cluttered with items other people could use next time.

How long will I have to wait for some feedback?

A friend of mind is an FA for SQ.

She tells me in no easy fashion, that when they work any of the SIN/INDIA routes, almost everything gets taken from the A/C... pillows, blankets, cutlery, cups, even the half empty uncapped lotions in lavatory.. virtually anything not affixed to the A/C.. What a surprise.. whether they need them or not..
Very rude, bad mannered & selfish in my view... I always just take what I need, but not everyone shares the same attitude!

Not long.
I agree with the take five toothbrush comment.
I wasn't advocating cleaning out the shampoo on a daily basis either. But I have a question. Is the shampoo and slippers a freebie based on the generosity of the hotel? Or does it form part of the price agreed upon when you stay? Should you have your bed made only once if you stay 3 nights instead of 1?
You may or may not feel the need to collect the slippers ( I know I don't) or shampoo ( I personally never bother ) but some do and while it's a personal choice I don't see the issue if you have paid for them, or have I missed something here?
BTW. Having had some background in the hotel and motel industry I can assure you , they are built into the room rate.

kpc,

I understand the problem :!: :D

OMG!!

Yes kpc!!

Despite my now HH Diamond status (and expired SPG Gold), I'm told Westin is still a must when available (despite no benefits, and perhaps higher cost), as the soaps are mandatory!!

If it were possible, and legal, I am absolutely sure she would steal the White Tea scent system that they pump into the public areas too ;)

PS. Mel-World - I've paid for the soaps, they're part of the experience. But no - i don't need the coffees or 150 toothbrushes.

Track down the supplier, dfcatch, buy her a case of the soap, deliver it beautifully wrapped - then go back to your HH! :)

They do sell them on the Westin@home site.... You can even subscribe to the Scent Program where they send u a new cartridge every month @ $50 per month. It's not cheap!!

So now you have to do a cost benefit allowance to determine the relative worth of your HH Diamond status?:)

I read the comment more as taking the product just because it's there, as being possibly wasteful as opposed to theft. My original question related only to the slippers. Once used, if they went to the rubbish (which it appears they do), then I'd have no issues about taking them home and reusing them.

Of course the three "R"s of environmental management are Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.....in that order, so not using them in the first place would be the most sustainable. Next being reusing, so I'd see myself as responsible by taking them for reuse rather than letting them go to landfill.

And that's the problem. I have no issue taking anything if the guest has part used the soap or any other item during the stay. Why take everything else out of the room, or plane, because I have paid for them. What a waste of resources that can be used by the next guest. What does one do with all those small soaps? We can thank you as more hotels are moving to those terrible liquid soaps on the wall.

Don't ever let your SWMBO experience the Westin soaps - if you do - then you will understand ;)

PS. Agree with you on the liquid soaps - although this doesn't seem to be a problem with Westin and Hilton.

pagingjoan - you are correct - but in all seriousness I do love Westin, even as a lowly preferred member I've always had great experiences, but HH Diamond benefits are hard to pass up compared with zero benefits on SPG......(even with your implied cost-benefit insinuation ;))

Marge is a compulsive, er, collector of hotel room items that aren't screwed to the wall or bedside table. She used to grab slippers from every hotel chain but these days she's a real "slipper snob". I just took a quick look and she's got a pair from Fairmont and Banyan Tree in current use plus a rather plush looking set from the Grand del Mar in San Diego and a few from various Mandarin Orientals for particularly cool mornings.
