Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

And by activating in April 2014, you would have it (going by similar past experience) until March 2016.

Although the Milepoint FAQ's say

Can I hold off on claiming the Hilton benefit until my current Hilton status expires?
While you are welcome to delay your claim to ensure you receive Hilton Gold elite status, the sooner you do so the sooner you can enjoy the Gold elite status benefits. Regardless of when you claim that benefit it is only valid until February 2015.

So, in that case, I might as well claim it now?

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Milepoint? Is that connected to the Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card now?

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

I see. Must have skipped that part. Thank you.

T+Cs say one thing, but experience with other offers of a similar type/style with HH suggest that you are likely to get the status for the normal amount of time. They didn't/don't seem to have very good procedures for removing status outside of the usual March/April renewals.

Thanks. In that case, as I don't need it currently, I'll claim it on Jan 1 for maximum possible benefit.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

I got an email offer for the card with 40,000 bonus Hhonors points. I think that might be good enough to offset some that the $295 annual fee.

Can you please share that email (or basis joining information)? I'd love to jump on that offer.

Cheers.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

I recently received my free night for spending $15,000 on the card in the past year. (I also previously received a free night for applying for the card after having the old Hilton Maquarie card).
As I am Diamond I think I'll give it the flick now ;).

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

I've applied for this card three times in the past 3 years. I was pretty annoyed after the 1st application rejection, let alone the 2nd, having never been rejected for a credit card previously. These two applications were rejected outright, with no further information being requested. Anyway, I persevered and recently applied for a 3rd time. I was pretty much ready for another rejection. :(. However, third time lucky. :)

I have no idea what their criteria is for approval. Anyway, I took some advice from the other thread and "dumbed-down" my income, and increased my declared expenses. Also, I had not made any other credit card applications during that three year period.

This card does not seem popular with some here (in the other thread) partly due to it's annual fee and there being no FF points attached. I see the annual fee of $295 as being not that much more than the equivalent of one-night's accommodation at some hotels and I can still use another credit card for earning FF points from other expenses.

Anyway, it will suit me for the HHonors Gold benefits which are all that I'm after. My Diamond will be no more come 1st April 2015 and I won't even make Gold on nights/stays/spend. However, I'm happy to at least have the Gold benefits for my Hilton stays which will run at about 12-15, maximum, for the year, and probably thereafter without some considerable effort.

Many are antagonistic toward this card due to what it replaced. More so in regard to the changes enacted last November.

As a result I canned mine.

I was a "Diamond Club" member back in 2005 which morphed into the "Premium Club" around 2007.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Also, the opportunity cost of a minimum spend (say for Diamond or the "free" night) is quite high. HH points have a low value compared to, say, putting the charge on an Amex.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Yes, I remember some of the views (justifiably) expressed in the other thread.

In the end it comes down to what's suitable for one person or situation might be unsuitable for another, or "horses for courses".

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

DC3, I also recently made an application for this card, and was rejected. I was looking at an alternative hotel program having just achieved LTG with SPG & this card seemed a very reasonable step into HHonors.

I think I was requesting for a $10,000 limit. No recent credit card applications (within the last 3 years) and perfect payment history. Seven figure income, to boot. I do have significant gearing with investment and margin loans, but all within very conservative tolerances, and have substantial equity to back it up.

I was gob-smacked to receive the letter saying I didn't meet their "minimum requirements". Anyways, I eventually saw the funny side of that, and simply moved on.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Hawkeye,
Maybe the $10,000 limit was too low for them.
I seem to recall that when getting the card that Macquarie pushed toward a higher rather than lower limit.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Still got mine bubbling along and after receiving two free night certificates last year, used them for maximum value. I use for business expenses only, my alternative where they don't accept Amex.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

If I wanted to maximise the benefits of the free night certificate & was hh diamond ,which hilton in Asia Pacific would offer the most value ?

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Conrad Maldives Rangali and Conrad Koh Samui.

But in terms of ease of access and cost of the rest of your stay, Conrad Tokyo probably has the highest base room rates.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

enjoying my card. using it where AMEX not accepted. Comp Gold has been good but very interested to see if the Diamond is worth it.
