Re: Hilton HHonors® "2nd GUEST [formerly SPOUSE] STAYS FREE" - How to use

Have been following this thread, Im a recent HHonours gold member, looking to use it later in the year. These things always seem so damned complicated, if you offer a benefit just give it I say or dont offer it. Anyway, Im looking to book my ffamily into tokyo hilton later in the year. I emailed the hotel to make sure 4 could fit in a King JR suite, they replied with no problem and said when you book, book for 3 persons and add the guest as free in the comments so there will be 4 beds. Ok so doing some dummy runs if I book 1 adult 2 kids it comes out about 26,000 yen a night. If I book 2 adults, 1 child it is about 29,000 yen a night. I take it there should be no problem if I book myself and kids and add my spouse as the "2nd guest free" to get the lower rate.? Is this correct. Thanks.

As an update to this. We arrived at the tokyo hilton and at check in the lady was very confused. She kept saying you can only have 3 in the room. I couldnt access the email from the hotel to show that they said it was fine. After a big stalemate and her making calls to housekeeping she says ok I'll upgrade you to a king executive suite but it will be very tight will 2 rollaway beds in the suite. Our stay was great in the end and we got the upgrade to the executive lounge and breakfast for all 4 thrown in but it was a very sour start to the stay, she was basically saying you cant all stay in the room but offered no options. It seems that with these big organisations everyone isnt up to speed sometimes on these deals. The head of guest relations happened to be checking someone in nearby and when we finally got our room cards he came over and personally introduced himself ,gave his card and said if there is anything he can do please contact him. He said he could hear what was going on but didnt say anymore so I dont know if he does this to everyone or he was embarrased about what happened to us. Anyway, might give this a go again in Bali later in the year and hope its all a bit smoother!

Hi flashback, this is the email I got from the hotel when I asked if 4 could go in a room.

"Warm greetings from Hilton Tokyo.
Thank you very much for your inquiry.
Kindly be informed that both of our Hilton or Executive King Jr Suite can hold total of 4 guests.
Please be aware that your children will need a bed for themselves but if you are our Hilton Honors member, you can book for triple occupancy using "2nd guest free benefit". Please let us know after you make your booking so that we can update your booking for 4 guests accommodation. Thank you very much.

With regards,

So i was doing what they suggested as a benefit for hilton honours gold members
Hmmm....I check into the Hilton Tokyo in 2 days' time, and have done excatly what you have done Willsmere. I have booked a King Junior Suite and asked for an upgrade to a twin Junior Executive suite. Hopefully, as a Diamond, my experience at checkin (will checkin at Exectuive lounge) is a bit better...

Good luck, Im sure you will be fine. Not sure what the big deal was with our check in.

I booked a Hilton JR Suite as they suggested.

Well that's a different story then! :)

Reinforces the fact that if you're doing anything 'outside the box' it's handy then to have any communications with you confirming.

I totally agree. Having paper saved me on a few occasions.

the boss always has a folder full of copies of all flights/hotels/any tours that we booked before leaving Oz. Very handy. Last week, Air France sent our boarding passes(Berlin to Paris) by email and it said we had no checked luggage, a 'mini' fare ...their error was quickly corrected at check in when the boss produced the paperwork showing what she'd actually booked - staff were great about it...i think it may happen regularly.

They were going to charge an additional JPY6000++ for a rollaway bed so had to persuade them (politely) not too...

have never had an issue with any of the daughters staying with me for free. i always include their name in the comments section when booking a room. been very handy with CNS hilton..daughter in cooktown usually gets to book in a couple of hours before i arrive - she's never had a drama accessing the lounge even though i'm still on the QF flight!!!

The site has had 2nd guest name for a while now in the booking process even if booking for one, in my experience anyway.

Great benefit Hilton has over SPG and the rest... especially when travelling in east asia where 2nd guest in the same room can almost double 1 guest room rate!

It should normally only be the additional cost of breakfast for another person, if it does increase.

I've had in Brisbane (the extra rate charge), but that was a decade ago and it was +$15.

Breakfast has little to do with the benfit. For example, it does not apply for a specific "Breakfast Inclusive" rate.

The additional PAX charge is not termed a "Towel Tax" for nothing. :D
