why is it that the business class seating upgrades aren't happening ASAP?

just noticed special business class fares to shanghai on qantas, $3200. cathay pacific also offering 'specials' for $4500.

given loading on cx often appear much higher than qf, surely the lost revenue would pay for the seat upgrades fairly quickly? (I know new seats are expensive... $30k plus, but if you're losing $1200 per pax per flight (if it's due to the seating) then doesn't it make sense to act with haste?)

Its not as simple as just the seats its the timing its the limited coonections through asia its the fact that those based in Asia now say they see no advantage flying QF over local airlines as QF dont fly anywhere these days. Its about the stupid Cafe Style Brekkie served in J. Shall we go on?

yes indeed. but i was focusing on the Shanghai route. CX seems to be able to command a 25% increase in price, but with a required stop in HKG.

QF probably beats CX in therms of food and wine, and the arrival time in PVG isn't too bad. So that leaves what? The seat... or the difference between connecting in SYD if flying QF or HKG if leaving from any other Australian port and flying CX.

There is one, actually. In Y ex-SIN to the east coast, it's almost half the price of what SQ is charging most times. In fact, to SYD, it's quite close to Scoot's 2nd-step price when it's not on promotion, once 30kg of baggage and food are added to the LCC's price. (It's only a few tens of dollars away, if I'm not mistaken with my calculations).

On another note, can QF schedule flights to make SIN/HKG-SYD-SCL a convenient possibility? It's the shortest distance route for those who want to go from SE Asia to western South America. At the moment, they don't even sell tickets for that on the website.

On another note, can QF schedule flights to make SIN/HKG-SYD-SCL a convenient possibility? It's the shortest distance route for those who want to go from SE Asia to western South America. At the moment, they don't even sell tickets for that on the website.

Gee, make SYD a hub and timetable flights to work...that'd mean someone would actually be thinking rather than throwing toys in the air and screaming "we can't compete".

I'm sitting in the PER QP, being from a southern state I am staying inside out of the cold.

With all the free time I now have due to not having to pour my own beverage I went to get some ham n salad and the ham wasn't self serve either I had to hand my plate ofer and it was taken into the kitchen and a ration issued then brought out and handed back to me.

Who is going to own up to being irresponsible with the ham...

Why is it that when Qantas improves the service at a lounge, where there is someone to serve you rather than having to do everything yourself, people still complain about it?

At this rate, may be they can have a self-served flight - go heat up your own dinner and take it back to your seat.

That is hardly limited to QF though as it seems to be the norm amongst most airlines

I do Sydney Shanghai quite frequently have have tried QF once and never again.
I am quite happy to pay the extra $1200 over to CX, okay not my own money but either way I have choice in flights booked.

The reasons are:
- CX better seats, I hate slope
- Better service
- Better breakfast and food
- Much better flights time available, 4 flights a day out of SYD to HKG
- Plenty of connections from HKG to PVG
- Many times I finish my meetings and just head to PVG check in counter and get on the very next flight available to HKG... more like catching a bus
- Then from HKG I can chill in the lounge or catch the next available flight back to SYD, again 4 flights a day.

The amazing flexibility provided by CX makes that $1200 seem insignificant.

There has been multiple times on CX the fare was $6000 to fly out on a Friday compared to $4500 to fly on Saturday.

I made booking for Saturday to save money, but on Thursday night I call up CX and ask to change flights to leave Friday. Every time I have been given a seat on the Friday without extra fees or costs... Other than waiting on the phone for 15 minutes.

On a different topic, is there any other airline that upgrades staff before passengers. On a recent flight I asked for points upgrade in the lounge (from flexi) and was told no seats available. 50% of business seats were staff in uniform.
