ANYTHING is better than the cricket one. Even the crew know this. On all my flights recently the CSM has fast forwarded through the video to the part where it tells you what equipment type you're flying on.

I prefer it straight and to the point. Qantas really isn't a "fun" brand.

I like the Delta one. To the point and has a little attitude !

I bet many would love to have Miranda Kerr be our 'Deltalina' in the video and many frequent flyers would have a lot more tolerance for such a demonstration. I'm sure though there must be someone out there who isn't keen on Miranda although I've yet to meet them...

Knowing QF though, even though we've had the "team team" briefing and now the "oh captain my captain" briefing, their next version will probably generate another few threads here and give us something new to hate :p

A simple straight forward video describing the emergency procedures and locations of exits etc.

No celebrities or "ambassadors" are needed, it is a safety video and should not be meant to come across as entertainment, nor should it be an opportunity to tout who Qantas does or doesn't sponsor.

Agreed. Safety is a serious matter, and if you want it to be taken seriously, don't try and pretend it's something else.

That doesn't stop you from doing it well.

Disagree...

Safety is very important, and it's very important that the message is delivered in a nice clear way which people understand. However that does not prevent the message from being delivered in a "fun" way, and provided it is done well, the message and it's importance is not diluted just because you have a bit of fun with it. There is a difference between delivering an important message in a fun way, and delivering a message in a "don't worry, we're only telling you this because we have to" way.

I liked the John Travolta one...

How about the older one with the gent in business class who could only lean forward about 30 centimeters?

How many of us who have heard it all before we switch off (I know I am one), how about dramatising to get peoples attention, "this could be the consequences of not following these procedures" followed by dramatic video. I think I might look up!

Another thought is have a few different hosts doing the announcements. That way you'll at least look to see if it is one you really like or dislike rather than just ignore it without a thought.

The best QF safety video was the one from years ago (that funnily enough JQ still use on the A330). It ran through the safety details in point form and was clear and lacked the... well BS from the current ones.

Leave it to the front line staff who are the real assets, and probably the lowest cost when it comes to doing a video, they are the true pros.

The problem with using crew is that many aren't good in front of the camera. Simply they aren't trained for that (otherwise they'd be on home and away!)

I think they feel the need to be "fun", just trying to copy Air New Zealand. I personally find the latter also quite idiotic but then again I'm a grumpy German-born immigrant who might lack the Kiwi humor. The Qantas ones are just mind-boggling awful and yes, cricket doesn't mean anything to someone who's not born in one of those Commonwealth countries that play this strange  sport ;)

The safety checklist is by far my favourite.

I used to be able to recite it :)

The next one should have the Qantas Captain meeting a succession of other Captains besides Michael Clarke. Captain Hook, Captain America, The Captain and Tenille, Captain Snooze, Captain Cook, Captain Nemo, Captain Kirk, Captain Picard and Captain Jack Sparrow can all greet the Qantas Captain one after another. "Hello Captain... Captain... Captain"

And then a flight attendant can instruct us on how to put a seatbelt on. The FA shall be referred to, of course, as Captain Obvious.

They may as well. Anything would be better than this cricket abomination... Of which the fawning and the rapturous applause is easily the worst part (although the "Captain... Captain" exchange comes a close second)
