serfty's DONE4 routing has 2060 SCs and can be improved further. ...
Actually, I expect 2360 out of it; I have already flown:

CMB-HKG-NRT-HKG-AKL-MEL in J for 480 SC's,
MEL-PER-CNS-MEL in J for 240 SC's and
SYD-LHR-DXB-LHR-LAX in J for 580 SC's.

Making a total of 1300 so far.

I still need to fly:

LAX-DFW-SEA-DFW-ANC-DFW-JFK in (AA) F for est 780 SC's &
JFK-HKG-CMB in J for 280 SC's.

Raw ticket cost ~AUD8050, raw cost per SC AUD3.40 ...

Thanks serfty - I got that number from an old post and thought it seemed low (comparing with my DONE5), but was too lazy to double check the maths.

It is a great deal if wanting to maintain status. The way you have split your trip and using points to return is very creative.

But ~AUD8050 can take me where I want to go 5 times, possibly even more if I optimise the process. Book a one way with points to SIN and buy cheap economy on AY to BKK. Then each time buy a return D class fare BKK-SIN and return economy or WT+ fare SIN-SYD. The return leg will be the beginning of the next trip. If I do 3 trips a year it would easily maintain QF Gold.

Need to be watch out I don't reach QF Lifetime Gold too soon.

Now, tell us honestly. Do you really want to go through the AY BKK-SIN experience again?

Absolutely. It is character building. And cheap. :p

Plus now that I know QF honours the SC's and FF points even if re-routed I have nothing to fear other than fear itself.

Well the good news for you is the longer you wait, the more likely QF will either increase the requirements or reduce the benefits of lifetime status, or both.

In the time frame JohnK is implying there is likely to be several rounds of enhancements

Why do I get the feeling JohnK is now not referring to QFF but rather some other enhancements

I was referring to QFF thank you very much. :? I was going to reply "at least" but thought that "for sure" might sound better. I figure that it will take me at least 10 years to reach QF Lifetime Gold and I would be very surprised if there isn't several rounds of enhancements to the QFF program in that time frame.

10 years implies maintaining WP (on current requalification levels).

There certainly have been significant changes over the last 10 yeats. In fact, Lifetime status did not exist 10 years ago.

Am I missing something I thought this wasn't allowed
Flight Limitations

  • Within Australia only one non stop flight is permitted between Perth and Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne or Sydney

MEL-PER used to be excluded from the restricted flights, and used to be handy for trans-continental routing. MEL-PER was added to the list at the same time as BME was added.

Serfty is protected on that routing since it was valid at the time the ticket was originally issued.

As NM & Kiwi Flyer have indicated the rules have changed (Ticketed in early August last year before rule change on 15th).

I have worked out valid routing that gets the same SC's and a few more FF points
Code:
-MEL-PER-DRW-MEL-
, but the timings for the only current QF PER-DRW and DRW-MEL flights with J class suck, departing before 9 AM. QF81/QF82 goes infrequently between DRW & ME via ADL.

I will need to check this again soon as it appears the DRW-MEL route is to be taken over by Death Star.

Those dreaded "we are making changes to make the system better" terms. The system only ever seems better for them. Thanks Serfty

If you look at any business (banking, mobile phone, pay tv etc) you will find that significant changes have occurred over the last 10 years. Not all good. FFP's are not immune to change and the majority of the time the changes are not intended to help us. But occassionally something like Lifetime status slips through and becomes beneficial to some people.
