I'm done with BUPA. Ever increasing price for ever reducing benefits. The final straw they now want to effectively create a US-style "HMO" type of bundle where you only get decent coverage if you use their policy with their signed up doctors in their signed up hospitals. Otherwise you end up with large out of pockets.

So I'll move and pay the same but have protected benefits and wider choice of hospital and provider.

Farewell.

We moved to BUPA last year but will probably go back to MBP after a current health issue is resolved. The staff seems to have no idea about what’s what or what is covered and their online portal is next to useless. It was a bad move!

The one thing i'll give them is that two ambulance claims were handled efficiently.

We’ve been with BUPA forever. But time to change before July 1 kicks in. That’s when our plan gets degraded.

There has been collusion amongst the funds I think because every one I’ve checked out no longer covers knee and hip replacements. Our BUPA has risen 5.8% but has removed some previously given benefits.

Mine is up 6.7%. Everything else looks the same to me.

I'm not so bothered by that change; they've always had their network of hospitals with better coverage if you use those. All they are now saying is the no-gap scheme wont apply if you dont use a hospital in the network.

Check for the Baby kind of stuff that’s going on July 1. And joint replacements. Having said that this is for a lower level of cover. Higher levels may include them.

I've got top level, so all maternity is covered. In fact theyve actually increased covereage for a lactation consultant.

And I see the Health Minister has directed the PHIA to investigate.

We’re happy with Defence. ..... but 9.42% increase will not be for everyone.

It depends on where baseline is though! I did a quick check the other day and think we will be ahead plus the included joint stuff. Not that anyone in our family has ever needed one! But think I’m dropping extras. It’s a nonsense what you get back.

Having just forked out for braces x 2 kids .... the extra package came in pretty handy. Between the four of us, we get a good return.

Yes. I think braces might be the one exception. We are well past that now. Dentures? Nup never.

AHM and 3.6% increase for us.

Very happy with their online portal, easy to claim and look up services and extra balances. Few times Ive phoned them, local staff who seem to understand their business. Phone staff even spent time digging through the jargon to find me a few extras to claim and how. ie, got a rebate for hubbys yearly pool access (he goes 3-4 times per week) via the onsite gym membership. He doesnt go to the gym but uses the olympic sized pool and we saved many hundreds.

We're making more and more use of them. Chiro, Osteo, Physio (strength, stretching and flexibility sessions for hubby). As posted earlier, got a rebate for gym membership with olympic pool, hubby doesnt go to the gym but uses the pool a few times per week, it was costing us $100 per month just for pool access. Rebate for tens machine as well. All preventative stuff.

I’m not convinced. I’ll do the sums.

We did the sums a while ago and we would have been paying out more in premiums for extras than we would’ve got back. Never use any of the alternative medicine stuff and dental/optical are pitiful in what you get back. Don’t do gym or physio either. Suppose it might be different if had a bunch of kids needing orthodontics.
We have top hospital only.
