Heads up about program changes

Just wondering. What made you use the words "Simpler? Fairer" ? No-one has actually been brazen and insulting enough to use those words to describe the current changes have they?

"It's all about creating a fairer, more simplified program" -> Straight from the email QF send out last week...

I emailed the same question to QF FF and had a nice lady ring me today who confirmed my assumptions, namely

Status credits for "normal" business class as follows
1) BNE-LAX 180
2) LAX-JFK 80
3) BNE-JFK 180+80=260 as no direct flight
4) SYD-JFK if on QF107 280
5) SYD–JFK changing aircraft in LAX 260

Simpler? Fairer?

If you joined QF107 in LAX, would you then get the extra 20SCs, or is that not an option they offer? (I've always had to transfer to AA when I head to the US, as work takes me to other places. LAX is just my transit point - all flights to JFK have been from anywhere but LAX.)

If not an option, it matches QFs attitude to those who fly routes they don't serve - "s***w you for flying OW."

Well, just had word I need to fly to SIN from BKK (for the day) mid April, so I'm going to be booking a flight with 3K; for the life of me, I can't work out SCs on *any* 3K flight - the website booking engine is woeful in that regard (why can't you indicate somewhere????)

I'm guessing that leg falls under the "Minimum Points Guarantee" - 1000pts, but again, no indication on the J* site, nor the QF site - even though QF states in bright orange (when you use the calculator) that only the Economy Max & Business options earn points & SCs.

Anyone done this route who can give me a heads up - I'm thinking I might compare CX earn (and do an overnighter). ;)

Perhaps Saturday 28 June might provide an opportunity for an AFF lunch in Sydney or Melbourne. We can debate and commiserate, celebrate and verberate over some of the lounge's finest beverages.
I reckon a dinner in each capital - except Perth, of course.

Under current rules the 897 mile flight will credit 15 SC and 1000 points, if you purchase the plus pack.
At least that's what happened in 2012.

Happy wandering

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

FWIW I'm likely to move over to BAEC for several reasons -

I suspect QF is gearing up to leave OW.

I'm already LTG so no incentive to keep accumulating SC

BA Gold is a better ROI

That is fine.

I don't have a UK address. I remember the emails from BMI-BAEC. I am not risking my status and mile/points balances on luck.

But then again I have Lifetime Gold and I can maintain Platinum relatively easily and I am up to my ears in points. Leaving Oneworld is not desirable but I can cross that bridge when and if it comes up.

I was interested to see if it was possible to book a "Full Economy" seat BKK-SYD, under the current table; surprise, surprise, the most expensive type available is their "Flexi Saver" which only garners points and SCs at the DE rate.

I don't think I've *ever* seen a full Y fare online (for that route) via the QF site. So how would you (if you were crazy enough to want to!!) actually book such a flight using QFs website?? Seems odd that they are "encouraging" (want!!) you to book their higher classes, but aren't currently offering said classes in the first place. Or am I expected to call QF direct and get slugged a fee for the privilege of booking a higher class?

Or will their new booking engine actually reflect the classes to be on offer as of July 1?

No UK address either but I do have a HKG one that I can use. Apparently, you can use any address other than one in AUS

I've got quite a few QFF points and I've got no intention of letting them drift away. In fact I'm going to keep accumulating them via ATO and other CC earn so they'll continue to rack up at a great rate.

The plan in very early stages - hold OWE status with BAEC however, earn the great majority of my points with QFF. LTG should see decent enough access to award seats and I'm not worried about losing the ability to request seats. Over the 8 years I've been a WP - QF have never released seats on request.

I fly from PER-ZNE far too often and accrue 30sc per flight on fully flex. I've tried to make sense of the tables, but there isn't really any comparison. Would this still earn 30sc?

I think you need to look at this earning table.

PER-ZNE is ~632 miles which will be regarded as a Domestic Australia short flight and earn 20 SCs in Flexible Economy.

Happy to confirm that is still the case, and you also get any status bonus. eg, as a PS, you get 1.5x 897 = 1346 points.

If you're following the spirit of Qantas then Adelaide should be left out as well ;)

Isn't Perth left out of dinner because the changes are actually good for them, with better earning than east coast.
