re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Well I've tried to book another one and AGAIN the fares aren't loaded for that route. I'm obviously having bad luck with this. They've held the inventory for me in a booking and will hope the fares desk fixes it next week.

so you are trying to do this the 300+ whatever it is days out?

353 days ... As of today you would be looking at August 25 2014 ...

Thanks....I'll try and remember :)
I was wondering if that was Joshua's problem, or something else

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

My suggestion is a "success" reporting thread with only travel details (starting airport / connecting airport / destination airport), points paid & Cash spent, this would then empower all AFF members to have some "idea" what the rough costs should be, would be very useful for future bookings... Mod's would need to keep it to a pure form of the above...

What do we think...?

Here's the thread, please keep it factual.... http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ul-marginal-asa-bookings-reference-53677.html

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

and I've had success with Adelaide to Auckland ASA in U class. 36,000 points plus some dollars. Admittedly booked before the changes

I assume for 36,000 this is one way?

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Yes. One way sorry

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Wow,

Ok just spoke to Joe to book my Syd - BNE - TSV - BNE - Syd not the most talkative fellow but very efficient.

Asked for Marginal Any Seat Award. he requested where I wanted to go to and from, in business Sydney - TSV and return. Asked what dates I gave him them, then he asked if I had a preferred flight I gave him the flights I'd already looked up. He then started to put it in, started to say there would be a booking fee stopped halfway through no nevermind no booking fee for this one. how would you like to pay with all points? I told him 48,000 please he came back with $349. Asked for credit card details, confirmed my email address gave my reference number which I repeated back. And we were all done thanked him, total call time of 6 minutes must say he was very efficient.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Today's fun was to book BNE-SYD-BNE JmASA for late december.

First call, after the 20 minute wait! I got through to a lovely lady who tried to tell me I could book online and then told me "everyone books classics" and eventually found the way to book U class at classic rates. I was a little unsure of the quoted rate 32K + $200 so said I'd call back ... 30 minutes gone.

Checked the rates, sounded OK, so called back. Answered in a couple of minutes this time, got another friendly operator who knew what I was after but "hadn't done one in a while so can I put you on hold for a bit?" Came back after 7 minutes and we had what I was after ... 17 minutes gone on this call.

So all up nearly 50 minutes for something I would have been able to do in 2 under the old online system.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Well, as of 30th August there were still 2 CSR's that had no idea of this process. I called the prescribed 1300 number, entered QFF details and spoke to Anastasia who directed me to the 'Points + Pay' section of the QF site. Despite me using the correct nomenclature as directed by Princess Fiona et al.
She was quite nice, and did not make me feel rushed at all, but simply did not understand any 'marginal any seat award' booking. Time spent after looking up flights 20 minutes to give me only the info that I could get from the website.

Called back in the pm, also August 30th. Got Lisa. Still not sure of how to book an 'Any seat award with a co-payment of taxes'. I had identified routes and flight numbers in the booking classes that I wanted. Has anyone noticed that for particularly popular route options it is now so damn difficult to find an award seat without going through a veritable maze of stopovers and ill-connections that you just want to give up?

End result. 1.5 hrs spent on phone. Much of it spent on hold whilst Lisa spoke to other CSR's to work out how to do this. Played around with routes. Then was told there would be a on phone booking fee for this. To which I quoted the email I have telling me to use the phone service and the fee would be waived.

God bless her, she was incredibly nice and apologetic, but the entire process made me want to jump off my balcony. I agree with Limewood - is it that difficult to do a staff wide training so that every CSR who gets calls at that 1300 number is completely across this and confident with the process?:?:

No... specifically, there is/was no:

XBPASROW fare ex-LRE, so it's impossible to book anything but classic.
ZBPASROW fare ex-BKK since the axing of the xBKK Kangaroo Route.

They have inventory to book into but no fares loaded to do it!

In the case of the former, at the end I was trying only a few days out.

I'm sure if it was a cash commercial fare they'd be more inclined to have a fare loaded so you could book a seat...

Booked SYD-BNE-TSV-BNE-SYD for 48k and $349.16 + $7 today took less than 10 mins on the phone with most of it on hold waiting for there computer to unfreeze, would have been nicer online but it worked. The CSR knew what he was doing and must have done them before as it was all straight forward. Only reason I did one is a DS offer for bookings made by today and flown before the end of November.

But what about all these people who are saying that they had such a wonderful experience and that there were no problems? They must wonder if we are exaggerating our poor experiences when theirs were so fulfilling.

Trying to book the exact same route and it took 30 mins, but with no success.

Kept on getting told "you can book it online" and "I can see it online, why have you rang up, you can just book it online". I gave up.

Too bloody hard.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Mrs asg29e rang up tonight to book her first JASA (Normally she gets me to do it but I'm sick of banging my head against that particular brick wall)

As she started I went outside to get something out of the car, walked back in 3 minutes later and she is busy reading out the credit card number! "Are you sure you got an ASA?" "yes." " Are you sure it was U class?" "yes" "Did they charge a telephone booking fee?" "no"

Sure enough, the email confirmed ADL-BNE-TSV return for 48000 pts and $360. AND she had a double SC offer, so a tidy 480 SCs coming up.

Some people have all the luck.

Maybe Mrs asg29e should hire out her services as a professional MASA booker :)

There is merit in that.

Buoyed by her success she was back on the phone 10mins later and booked another one! ADL-MEL-ADL, 32000 pts and $220. Took all of 5 mins and still in the double SC window.

Poor deluded girl thinks this is easy and wonders what all the fuss is about.

I am not sure but I assume it is the luck of the draw who you get and if they know what they are doing, I got lucky, for a change.
