I assume it is the luck of the draw who you get and if they know what they are doing, I got lucky, for a change.

One might almost call it a... lottery?

Just kidding.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

I aced my first booking but my second... I think I spent more time on the phone than I will on the flights. 7 calls over 7 days and finally got ticketed. Thanks to CSO Wendy (she was great today). A simple ADL-SYD-ADL proved complex. I got 3 x why don't you book a classic instead (from other CSOs). I also got a 'I don't think "they" want you to book those any more.' (from another CSO). Saga started with original booking having U ADL-SYD and I SYD-ADL (even though U was available). Thought that may have been the problem but apparently someone had interrupted the "workflow" of the booking so much so that I couldn't get ticketed. I followed RedRoo et al's advice to the letter and still had challenges.

When I first saw my SYD-ADL was I class, I called back (when U was still available) and was told it'd get sorted. Suffice to say that it didn't but c'est la vie.

Don't get me wrong, I realise this is a first world problem... I've had plenty more ladders than snakes with QF but it appears as though "Right on Q 7740" is optional reading.

I fear the xASAs will fall into the too hard basket and be discarded rather than make their anticipated return to DIY online status.

Good luck fellow travellers. Make hay.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Just booked a JASA, I think with Angela. Very helpful but her first booking so she had to do a few call holds to speak to help desk. Initially she thought it was only available online (we wish!).

Booked a DSC JASA Syd-ADL-SYD in November. She got it to 48,000 points plus $281. Couldn't get it lower unfortunately. Ended up paying 56,000 points and $224. Last seat available in business for those flights and it's a family trip for me so I shouldn't complain too much :).

Tried booking a SYD-TSV-SYD JASA at same time for 2nd November but they wanted $300+. Can't justify that cost at the moment when I still have 9 months left in flying year.

And 2nd time lucky... nice young girl on the line who initially thought it was a Classic. Learnt from my mistakes and just asked her to look at Right on Q 7740... 5 mins and hold and then it was all booked!

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Booked one last night - J (well U) Mel-Syd. They tried the 'no, you want a Classic award' and 'you can do that online', but following some light prompting a call was made to a Supervisor, all was sorted out and for 27900 points and no $ I had my flight plus SC's which will renew my WP status a bit earlier than expected.....

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

I want to change an existing JASA, do you think that is going to be possible.

I want to change it to a day earlier which shows classic award space, I wonder what they will charge me.

Yes its possible as I have changed a JASA.

Sorry but I have no idea about what they will charge you for the change but from memory my change was at no cost.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Just had a wonderful help from Jodie, who booked me into SYD-PER for 36,000 points plus $270 in taxes and fees. Had a debate over the $35 service fee; which she kindly waived for this instance. For next time, where can we point to Qantas staff instructions to waive the $35 fee? I don't think it's on the Right on Q staff reference cards.

Thanks again to all fellow AFFers who helped guide me through my first JASA.

A domestic JASA booked un U class should be able to be changed at no fare difference and no service fee.

I should have been clear its a PER-SIN oneway JASA, I would hope the same applies, I will have to bite the bullet and make a call.

Then ask for an extra day holiday from the new boss.

Do you have a copy of the fare rules?

If a JASA is booked in U, can someone please tell me what a FASA is booked in?

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Ok tried again to book a JASA Mebourne to Auckland...located a classic award for the dates I wanted ( all QF flights) and called up...CSR told me it could not be done...I then explained that it could and used the script and she apologised and said there had been so many changes that it was hard to keep up, I identified the flights and numbers for her, she said she could only see Mel-Auckland direct and not the Mel - Bris - Auckland flight that I could see on my screen, explained that I wanted the later flight if possible, she said she would have to investigate and put me on hold and then after 10 minutes of holding I was cut off...don't think I am meant to go to NZ anytime soon. I will try again later when I am at home...so for the record I do not want to go direct ...should that be an issue ?

I changed one a couple of days ago and was charged 3,500 points. Would love to see a copy of the rules/email myself.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Looks like I am up for a $150.00 change fee.

I wasn't offered points or pay for the change. $150 or 3.5k? I think I took the better option for me as it pays ~ half my TSV accommodation. I will read up on the rules and should I find the fee was incorrectly charged.....
