Has anyone had success with the call-up "Marginal" xASA's?

Yes, sorry, I agree with you there. Red Roo does solve pax issues quickly and pro-actively.

+1

It could be that this MASA issue (why, how, when...) is above RR's "pay grade" and therefore the slights are with Red Roo's bosses on Bourke St (next to Coward St).

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Its a very poor showing after couple months putting customers through the ringer and taking pot luck to get an operator who knows the ropes, totally ridiculous yet not a word from Q.

BRING ASA's BACK ON LINE PLEASE!

As one who was lucky enough to attend the MEL QF lunch, we were told that MASA's were here to stay but only accessable via telephone. The new booking engine does not allow for the online publishing of MASA's. Hence they are not coming back online.

i don't agree. Red Roo rapidly addressed an issue I've posted on the forum. I'd rate his/their performance significantly better than the VA rep.

Have to agree, they've been very helpful with all my enquiries, to the best of their ability. I've even asked on behalf of a neighbour and received good advice.

Obviously though, whenever I ask for CL it is a little too far ;)

I have used JASA's a lot, and I'm sad to see them go, but don't think it should be Red Roo's priority to get them back online.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

ok so tried 5 more times and was going backwards so gave up. Basically a combination of can't do anything about it to masa ceased to exist in august.

I would say they know what we are trying to do, and they can easily stop it by various excuses and there is nothing we can do about it.

Oh well... "fun" while it lasted LOL.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

No doubt about it Red Roo has given excellent service to AFF members, but is still in the cubby hole in regards to ASA's why and when, looks like being kept in the dark, yet no reply one way or another, maybe gagged :).

Taken at face value your recent experience - 5 times, unsuccessful - I am a little worried.

Once or twice, totally understandable but five times suggests to the cynic in me that maybe the review had now been completed.

Happy to be corrected by successful reports, of course.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

So I'm now 2/2 on successful telephone bookings. Used exactly the same script as last time, booking was a relatively simple SYD-MEL-PER JASA rtn at 72,000 and $500 (Classic is $140). This booking was made via the normal call centre (not the premium desk). Telephone conversation didn't start too well as the operator offered to walk me through how to do this booking online   I stated that I was sure that this couldn't be booked online at the minimum points plus minimum co-pay and away we went.
5 minutes all up.
So don't lose heart folks it still is achievable, although QF could do with working a little bit on consistency ;)

Think RR's job is post positive messages about Qantas, like all posts about Qantas that are positive and troubleshoot for individuals who have issues where he/she can do something positive about it.

In this case, the answer you seek is plainly negative for the reputation of Qantas and thus fits squarely outside the bounds of RR's role.

Bit of a disaster for me tonight. Tried to book Mel via Brisbane to Auckland and return via Sydney Classic award available but using LAN for one of the flights. Was put on hold for 30 minutes and then hung up. CSR called me back apologising as she had been trying to work it out and was talking to another CSR. Long story short she told
lme it could not be done as a MASA but that she could book the Brisbane to Auckland flight as a MASA and the rest as a classic award I was a bit confused with that apparently the LAN flights are not eligible. Might try again tomorrow. Have to add though she was very pleasant

There are perhaps issues that Red Roo cannot answer because they're either not told or not allowed to. I don't think every decision Qantas makes needs to be explained to everyone that asks, or is that something any person/shareholder can request of a company? Either way, the answer is clear.

I agree that a fuss should be made to highlight the issue and perhaps in a blue moon bring back functionality/elicit a response. But to bring Red Roo into the argument, that they're not helping sufficiently on this issue is a bit much. They can't fix every issue, and expecting that/calling them out in regards to ASA's isn't fair to the fantastic job they do!

At some stage I'm going to get some pointers off you to book something for myself ;)

As far as earning potential goes, a LAN flight booked as an award wouldn't earn. There's also a reason why they're called Qantas and Jetstar Any Seat Awards... they're only available on Qantas and Jetstar.

So you could fly over on QF with a mASA BNE-MEL-AKL and on a separate booking a classic return on LAN if available, but didn't think it was possible to combine a classic and ASA in the same booking, while LAN wouldn't qualify for an ASA.

ASA's couldnt ever be booked on LAN or any other partner Airline IIRC. I think the information you have been given tonight is correct.

That explains it then thanks. She did say Transfer Tas flights had to all be on Qantas I will go back to my search for QF flights

I just had a look here, and it seems you can:

Any available seat on:
  • Qantas flights with a QF flight number
  • Jetstar flights with a JQ flight number
Plus you can combine a Qantas fare with selected flights on 43 partner airlines.~

However you wouldn't earn points on LAN, which sort of defeats the purpose.
