Has anyone had success with the call-up "Marginal" xASA's?

For some reason the return flight cost more than the trip over
...

Will need to cough up to get the SYD-BNE added but decided to grab the P seats while I could. Didn't want to risk waiting for the daily release of seats to roll over tonight.....

That would probably be the APD ex-LHR.

Odd that you couldn't book a SYD-BNE as well?? I mean it's not like they wouldn't have dom U class loaded if they have had P already loaded? If it hasn't ticketed I'd ring now and try and change it...

I pleaded with the agent to allocate/hold and ticket on Tuesday - she put me on hold, came back and said she couldn't. The SYD-BNE flight won't be released until Tuesday. It ticketed within the hour and I'm contented to cough up another 7,000 points or $300 to get it added later in the week.

I didn't want to wait given the P seats come and go very quickly....now that QF10 timing has changed - QF2 is the only option for people connecting.

yep, I recently did a lot of searching and dummy bookings over a several week period. The award seats from QF gateways to ADL also are released after the international award seats (to and from the gateways)

I had a 30 minute call with Neil in BNE the other night. When I first asked if he was familiar with the process he said he was and also added that these wouldn't be available after June 30. That gave me confidence in his abilities. The call was perhaps longer than necessary, but I was booking multiple flights and there was some light-hearted banter.

I had to ring the following morning to change one of the flights, and that too was flawless. All done in about 5 minutes.

Restores my faith, it does.

4 minutes 21 seconds, no fuss, no bother. Melbourne to Adelaide one way in U class for the expected price. I'll hang on to one more year of WP I reckon. While not faith restoring it was an excellent experience

Just booked the return journey. This time it was Lauren and although she got the job done - it took forever with a dismissive tone thrown in for free. For some reason the return flight cost more than the trip over

2 x F LHR-SYD 416,520 + $2,250.84 + CC fee ($60).......the co-payment for 384,000 was around $2,600 ++

Winning a spot in the Gallipoli ballot is expensive ;)

I paid 192K and ~$1400 for LHR-MEL-SYD about a month ago.

Which leads to the inevitable qn: have you checked your activity statement amaroo?

First thing I checked after hanging up.

11 MAY 14QANTAS & JETSTAR ANY SEAT AWARD 1 ADT REF----208,260-

Isn't that 192K half of the 384K for 2, and amaroo just used a few extra points to reduce the co-pay?

Yes, I believe so

Correct. The increase of around $1,000 (co-pay) for return flight bamboozled me no-end. I see that PF booking is around the same $$ so it must be correct.

Just for another point of reference. I have a JASA lhr-syd-bne with copay of about $1200 (ish).

Andrea from the premium desk...awesome. 6 mins including hold time.

MAY14|JUN14|J|MEL-SYD-ASP-SYD-MEL|48000|379.26|?|?|240

Someone else a week or so ago, also great, also about 5 minutes

MAY14|MAY14|J|MEL-SYD-ASP-SYD-MEL|48000|386.26|?|?|240

Those are my last ASA bookings. Was fun while it lasted, Qantas.

I think the domestic tag-on flight should be included without any (points) penalty. I was certainly told that when I booked a return CBR-LAX flight in J.

Fair enough. But if your ticket has fully flexible conditions (which I would think so), then you can make a small change with only the minor fare difference (is it really $300 to add on SYD-BNE)? The spreadsheet shows LHR-MEL-BNE in F/J as 192k + $1400 booked in March... so an extra $200 on top of your price..

A very quick 5 minute call to Carol in MEL saw me book a MEL-HBA flight. Maybe some training is getting through in the dying moments of these bookings.

I have noticed every single call since the "simplification" has been handled just fine. The conspiracy theorist in me suggests they were intentionally screwing with us between the taking-it-off-line and the announcement-of-the-simplification.

I have only made (I think) four of these bookings. The last two went to the regular desk and were immediately transferred to the Platinum desk who handled it without issue.

I had ever done one (1) before the simplification, but I guess having 308 pages in a thread called "Has anyone had success with the call-up 'Marginal' xASA's" in a testimony to difficulties folks have been having with the call ups. Since the simplification I have made quite a few bookings (I think I've used over 600k points) and on every call, the first person I talked to knew about MASAs and handled it efficiently. And for the record, I have never called the "special" number, always the plat line. My last two bookings have been past 2AM and I presumed were handled by the normal call centre (as opposed to the plat one) and they were just as efficient. My last called was made around 3AM for CBR-LHR return in J and the whole thing from dial up and hang up was 10 minutes and 1 second. Had this been a "typical" experience before the simplification, we would not have had 308 pages in this thread, I don't think.

I have called the special number recently. It's no longer special.

So now I'm just using the 13 12 11 number, and hoping that it doesn't divert elsewhere.
