Fellow contributors. Have a look at this link which tells you what some more discerning punters think of the beloved Crownie.

http://www.ratebeer.com/Ratings/Beer/Beer-Ratings.asp?BeerID=7209

Browse the site for some other very interesting info. I am sure some of you might even want to join me in rating the best beers in the world. My username is the same there as here.

Enjoy.

Good website - I think it's been a bit biased by the number of Aussies willing to put down our coughpy beers. I think our coughpy beers are at least as good as the coughpy beers of most 1st world countries with the exception of Germany and Belgium.
When the wonderful Egyptian beer "Stella" doesn't appear in the bottom 50 you know not enough people have "had the pleasure". Not that many people have tried Southwark Pale either it seems!!
So you've been to the "Wig & Pen" in Canberra? Now that's a pub!

I have a collection of International Beers, 48 countries are represented in my collection at the moment, but I have no egyptian beers. Where do i get hold of a bottle of this Stella you speak of? And before someone jumps in and says "You can get Stella Artois anywhere...", let me point out that Stella Artois is a belgian beer, and clearly not what we're talking about here.

Sadly :( (happily actually :D ) you have to go all the way to Cairo to get it - unless they are exporting now!! It was quite an experience trying to find a beer in Cairo in 1990 I can tell you. We found out where the place was from a fellow backpacker and then walked into this shop wih no advertising signs at all and the "speakeasy proprietor" proceeded to wrap every warm bottle in newspaper before he'd let us go out the door. As there were no fridges in our hostel we had to drink it warm :p
Shows how desperate Aussies can get for a beer!
We did the felucca trip down the Nile from Aswan and attached beers to ropes and hung them in the "crystal clear" waters of the Nile to cool them down. Of course then we risked giardia, bilharzia and who knows what other diseases when we drank from the bottle. Didn't improve the flavour either...
Israel was heaven after that - Maccabee Lager. Probably cough but you know what I mean.

Adelaide has 3 things going for it:

Cheap Coopers
Numerous wine regions
The in-laws (free accom and they drink Coopers too) :D

If anyone knows anything I've missed, let me know!

jlou, I can't believe as a female that you missed this one:

Haighs Chocolate

Iif you ever visit the factory, you wouldn't leave empty handed! I have a standing order from friends that when I visit ADL, I have to pick some up....

Frankly, I'm disappointed in you....

You did miss something....West End Draught. :)

Why oh why is this not available interstate ?

On a 40c day in ADL, I used to put a shot of Schweppes lime cordial in this and drink it from an ice cold (frozen) glass. Beautiful.

The only beer that you wouldn't 'ruin' in such a way would be a fine German pilsner.... :)
