Re: Hahaha - How Bad FlyBuys Really Is

Coles (at least Wesfarmers) owns 50% of FlyBuys, so it's a moot point. Agree that active number of members is important; from a sample of one (me!) it's easy to stay active because it's working well for me.

I am sure Wesfarmers would drop it very quickly if it ever become uneconomically viable.

FlyBuys was set up to create brand loyalty, now they need to compete with EDR they need to step up the offering if they wish to maintain that loyalty because EDR has a better offering.

Re: Hahaha - How Bad FlyBuys Really Is

I am still using flybuys but points earning is dropping off.At home we generally now go to Woollies if doing supermarket shopping. Here in Tassie it is back to Coles as Flybuys works, mainland EDR doesn't.Though one of the local Fruit &Veggie places has a butcher and bakery as well as deli goods so most of the food I buy is done there as they have a loyalty scheme-spend $300 and get a $10 voucher-much better earn rate cf flybuys.
If they lose Coles I would definitely not be earning enough points to ever get a redemption.
At the moment though it costs me nothing-I am getting my CC out of my wallet anyway so no effort or extra time required.

Re: Hahaha - How Bad FlyBuys Really Is

I'm not sure about all this talk of losing coles. Coles set up fly buys in the first place, hence the owning 50%. Sure the changed ownership and the sale of Myer changes things a fair bit. But if coles is going to pull out then I would guess that flybuys would be wound up and/or morphed into whatever loyalty scheme coles replaces it with.

Useless statistics for anyone interested. When I worked for K-Mart Automotive a couple of years ago I asked marketing about the cost of Flybuys points to the Coles group even though they owned part of Flybuys. I was told the actual cost to them was somewhere between 0.003 and 0.004 cents per Flybuy point.

You need to understand the relationship between Coles and Flybuys to understand why they are looking at creating a scheme they manage themselves. For example, if Coles wants some data about your spending habits from FlyBuys they have to buy it back from FlyBuys. My understanding is that they are looking at creating a scheme where they can control the information.

That all sounds logical. I hope wesfarmers is looking to maximise my investment. But I can't see flybuys continuing without coles support. If/when coles starts a new scheme they are going to want to get whatever money they can out of flybuys. Most likely IMO by winding up flybuys and transferring people to the new scheme

Re: Hahaha - How Bad FlyBuys Really Is

I used to work for a participant of FlyBuys and managing the relationship with them and I can honestly say this program is worthless...Except Coles and Liquorland, there are no other participants are getting sensible return from it.

With the introduction of QF's tie with Everyday Rewards, FlyBuys is now a sunset program!

Re: Hahaha - How Bad FlyBuys Really Is

For what it is worth we have been offered triple points for spends in Coles this weekend. Have I found the FlyBuys card and put it in my wallet again :?:

NO :p

Re: Hahaha - How Bad FlyBuys Really Is

But finishing my 6th week off the South coast of Victoria and here my flybuys card works,EDR doesn't,except for D*ck Smith. No Big W's anywhere near DPO.

Re: Hahaha - How Bad FlyBuys Really Is

That's a pretty generous offer, that will cost them $more than $10 in issuing those points.

Re: Hahaha - How Bad FlyBuys Really Is

The 250 FB points from K Mart is back on again.

Not all card holders get invited though.

I'm linked to three FB cards, and one out of three got the email.

Easy points. i put May as my next insurance due month, so they won't bother me for a while....

Re: Hahaha - How Bad FlyBuys Really Is

for someone buying groceries just for themselves I usually get a $20 voucher every 2nd year.

I mainly shop at coles since there's 1 underneath world square where i work.

I can dream that they'd bring in a rewards scheme tied to velocity.

At least my mum n gran earn me some EDR points.

Re: Hahaha - How Bad FlyBuys Really Is

Oddly enough, I have started getting various targetted Fly Buys offers. Coles seem to have been experimenting with different things over the last few months (vouchers for additional discounts, spend x get $y discount (either directly or through fuel discounts). I suspect they are trying to refine exactly what works with consumers here, and the things that work will make it into their new programme.

I too would like a tie up with Velocity, but the various snippets I have heard lead me to susopect it is unlikely.

Re: Hahaha - How Bad FlyBuys Really Is

I think the new Coles management will try to bring in something similar to the UK where you get emailed targeted rewards based on ya spending history.

At the moment I don't know if Coles has all the info available that it requires.

Tesco in the UK drills down pretty deeply into the data they have on their customers so that what they give you is something you tend to value. In many ways it's win win since i have no need for 25% off nappies, but would find the same discount on another item to be quite good.

Lets hope things never get quite so targeted like in the minority report

Yes unlikey... When EDR/QF launched Coles have said that they weren't interested in tying up with Velocity.... But things can change.

I wonder if EDR tied QFF up exclusively or just has an exclusive period....?? The ultimate would be having Coles hooked into QFF too and then WOW and Coles fighting competitively ;)

Anyway I doubt Velocity could handle the data, it already struggles on the basics like posting other airline flights and other partners.

I have heard things along this track as well. Coles doesn't really have the info available (POS transaction data isn't kept long enough to really put a pattern together)- and FlyBuys want them to pay to get it back from them.

Re: Hahaha - How Bad FlyBuys Really Is

Who would DJ turn to if not Coles/Bunnings, I am sure JB would open dialog if the commercial value was there.

Re: Hahaha - How Bad FlyBuys Really Is

until Velocity makes it easy to book partner awards being able to earn points at Coles may not be that attractive - certainly OK if you don't mind some domestic travel or the odd rip to South Africa or the USA but that's about it.
