Getting that extra welcome when on board (QF)

The only other reference I have seen is to a passenger being Subload (basically staff or other person entitled to free or cheap inductry fares). So a subload passenger may be treated differently - perhaps being last to be asked for their meal selection.
Just ask Yada Yada if he thinks that last statement is true in reality!

To rejog your memory read the first post of Dear Geoff...

When I have snuck a look at the manifest on board, it shows you name, title (i.e. Mr, Mrs, Dr etc) and FF status (QF status or OneWorld status).
That's funny - although I haven't seen any F manifests, I have had a look at a few in J, and from memory, it definitely had J,D,C or U next to their names.
(maybe J,D and C were combined as "J" - can't remember.... but I recall seeing "U" next to myself, and at the time I was travelling on a FF ticket)

I will have to look a lot more carefully next time. Since I would have been on a D fare (about all I use these days unless just a return trip to Asia which is more likely to be K or H) I may not have noticed anything strange about such a letter. Or maybe my vision and concentration were blurred due to other factors  .

Of the 4 flights I took this month (2 QF, 2 JetConnect), there was no extra welcome, no nothing. A couple of them did manage to address me by name though.

I suppose one advantage of flying frequently on the regional routes with QFLink is that eventually you get to meet most of the FAs. I have enjoyed very friendly welcomes and commensurate beverage service from many FAs on QFLink. I always make a point to use their name and thank them for their service when disembarking. I think it will always pay to treat cabin staff in a friendly and dignified manner.

Hi everyone,

I can confirm I was on an award Y ticket SYD-JHB and for the first time ever got the greeting and heaps on attention, felt good to be a Plat for once.

I am quite concerned about your attitude, Mr Danger. Are you seriously trying to state that the "other" passengers who have paid to be on the flight should receive equal treatment from the cabin staff? If so then I think we need to have a re-education session during the 6 o'clock swill at the Qantas Club. You are a member like us, aren't you ???
No, that wasn't my suggestion. And yes, I am a member!
I think you totally misunderstood what I posted. If you think I am stuck up then you are sadly mistaken. I don't think that at any point I knocked you down. My status is nothing compared to the many QF platinums and OneWorld emeralds on this board. My status in life even lower.

I merely stated that the few posts before mine had answered your question and I had given you an account of my experience on the SIN-MEL flight.

As for the LAX-MLB remark, well this had a :p in it which means do not take seriously. But I was right, LAX-MLB is not an international flight. ;)

Don't take anything I post to heart. It is great to have you on board and hope you are around continuing to post on this site in the future.
Thank you for posting that. Perhaps I did misunderstand.

On my flight from Los Angeles to Melbourne (!) I got a special welcome and I was only silver status at the time; perhaps they were light-on for higher status!

It is Ok, misunderstandings do happen.

Great to hear that you got a special welcome as a silver. That will get some of those QF WP's and OneWorld Emeralds all worked up. ;)

I don't think the FAs have any way of knowing if you are on an award ticket or paid. When I have snuck a look at the manifest on board, it shows you name, title (i.e. Mr, Mrs, Dr etc) and FF status (QF status or OneWorld status).

I also snuck a peek at the manifest (a couple of times).. The first time was before I had any status and I noticed that my employers name was next to mine and a number of other people. Not sure what the purpose of highlighting the company name.
A few years later when I snuck another peek and I had status, I noticed my status next to my name.

On my last flight SIN-BNE I was sitting at an exit row chatting with the FA sitting opposite. The CSM wandered down, looked at the list, looked at my seat number, looked at FA, smiled at me, ticked manifest and continued walking.

Nice and quick. Didn't bother me as I was having a nice chat anyway.

Mal.

What is better? No status or Bronze status?

I think no status is better. At least this way, the attendant could possibly think you usually fly star alliance or something.

or maybe they are both as bad as each other.

Geez, I ALWAYS get a greeting. When I am boarding they look at my boarding card and tell me what it says. They also tell me what side of the plane its on! Having exhausted themselves with such effusiveness they then leave me alone for the duration of the flight. Fantastic.

Well put Sully.

It echo's in here.

But yes, the greeting Sully gets accords with the welcome I get,

Bronze is better. Only slightly though. Puts you a little bit higher in the pecking order!

(A little tip I've found from flying, hotel stays etc. If flying/staying with someone even a "bottom level" tier on their frequent flyer/frequent stayer program is better than nothing. Some hotels will give you better floors, some airline programs will very occasionally give you special treatment or op-ups. It's all about showing that you are wanting to be loyal to that hotel or airline etc and have the power to be influenced in a positive way)

Disagree. Ever see a no status statue? Or lifesaver? Or medal?
