General Medical issues thread

One of the joys of having a Dr as my son's partner is that when they are having a very gluggy man cold it's a fast hand pass over to the expert.

So basically, you all are trying to convince me that it would be better for me to swim or to ride a bicycle than run? I don't really like swimming and I didn't ride a bike for a long time, but maybe I'll try to borrow a bike from someone and see how it feels. Those d... knees. :/

Sorry for the late reply, guys!

Running is high impact. May be ok at the time but later on.... I dislike swimming and bikes too.

Yeah it is, but there are people who can run for years and they don't have a single injury. I wish that it was the same with me. :/

I am sick again :( :(

Went to a certain medical establishment on Commercial Road which a few AFFers may be familiar with. Have been poked and prodded every which way. Now back home awaiting results.

I walk for more than 60 minutes in a lovely warm hydrotherapy pool five times a week. Seems to work ok as I don't get impact stresses on my feet, ankles nor knees. I still ride a bike when it isn't raining.

That sounds like a great exercise activity cove.

Yes I am 67 and I feel it is working very well. I find I don't get impact aches as the water supports a portion of your weight and you are pushing against a wall of water. I walk a bit more than 2 Kms and sometimes 2.5 Kms starting at 6am.
I have bought chlorine removing soap from Amazon to remove the chemical smell off my body.

When (osteo) arthritis kicks in then the first thing Doctors say is to avoid weight bearing exercise on that joint and suggest swimming. I don't like swimming so much but could manage the walking in the pool.

Our hydrotherapy pool is usually about 30 degrees so it is quite pleasant. I haven't had any further trouble with my left knee by doing this exercise. Four arthroscopies and finally radioactive injections finally removed/dissolved the bone spurs.

One other thing I use sparingly is Vicks First Defence that I buy at Boots in London. It is not sold in Australia so it probably has not been passed by our health regulator. Seems to protect me from people who have colds. Mrscove won't use it.
Vicks First Defence is a nasal spray.

Does it work by smelling so bad people with bugs give you a wide berth?:p;)
No wonder mrscove wont use it!

Bugs begone! Actually Mrscove wouldn't be good at putting anything up her nose.
Vicks First Defence seems to knock off the bugs without the full Vapor Rub smell/taste so I find it pretty good. Not sure what is in it and it is not sold in Australia nor the US.

My knee weirdly hurts when I swim. If I jog, I do laps on a grassy footy field. I think some of those running tracks have cushioned surfaces. I usually bike but that can give me knee pain.

I hope they can perfect stem cell technology for OA issues.
