Cod liver oil to prevent anything.But after the age of 7 I refused to take it any more as I slipped a dose to the cat who within 5 minutes had a convulsion.
Finally Bates salve-pimples,boils cuts and splinters out it came.pure magic.

We had this ointment made by a compound pharmacist. Ringbark ointment. It was a thick paste. That and milk of magnesia and Vicks rub.

When I was in high school I had psoriasis and had cor-tar ointment to smear over me. It was a lovely black sticky goo that smelled like bitumen. Just what a teenager wanted! :mrgreen:

When I was doing my nursing training I spent 3 months in the dermo ward - a lot of psoriasis there ! Coal tar baths and oatmeal baths were the rage then !!!

I've got psoriasis on my scalp. Coal tar shampoo relieves but doesn't cure. Same with the steroi_ cream. I've had it for 6 years but two dermatologists misdiagnosed it. Nothing they can do about it though so there doesn't seem to be much point in diagnosis.

In fact Pushka it was the first sign of autoimmune disease-

Certainly it was the first sign of a systemic auto immune illness but I'd had auto immune thyroid issues since my twenties - hashimotos - antibodies to TPO in the thousands. I've very little natural thyroid function and am on 200 mcg thyroxine daily. But the dermatologist wasn't into making a jigsaw puzzle back a few years ago and treated the skin issues in isolation. It's the rheumatologist who is doing that.
It's suggested I go on methotrexate now plus calcium blockers for Raynauds.

I was also force fed cod liver oil :evil:. As a small 'sickly' kid was given all that stuff all through school, incl tepid bottles of milk. Now, I can't bear milk.

In Tromso last year at the brekky bar, I made the awful mistake of smelling the contents of bottle to see what it was. CLO! My whole childhood flashed before my eyes. That's funny about your dosing the cat. :D

OK our parents abused us with cod liver oil,Hypol, milk of magnesia, Waterbury compound, Bex, flavine , mercurochrome and some Vicks. Yet we survived all that torture and most of us are still kicking on. Not so for that poor cat drron.

When (osteo) arthritis kicks in then the first thing Doctors say is to avoid weight bearing exercise on that joint and suggest swimming. I don't like swimming so much but could manage the walking in the pool.
I don't like swimming either. Especially at 6:00am.

Unfortunately though my joints carry a lot of weight. Back on diet again but very slow process.

Monica932, you just need to find the right outlet for your exercise regime. I walk every weekday for 45 mins with my dog through the local parks. She's a greyhound cross pointer, so needs the walk and it is good for me as well - keeps my weight constant and is low impact, plus good for the BP (not that I have ever had high BP). Also nice that I am using Qantas Assure App and linked in with a bunch of AFF'ers so they keep me walking further to try and keep up.

The only intensely physical thing I do is play 2 games of Indoor Beach Volleyball every Wed night - lowish impact because it's on sand, but Lord it can be cold if winter or raining. Gets my heart rate elevates to ~70% of max suggested, for 40 mins a week. But then again, I'm a little younger than cove and being tall helps as well (good blocker for my team) ;)

Cod Liver Oil, Vicks Vapor Rub, Childrens Panadol and stuff I thankfully can't recall their names now....thanks for bringing back the memories everyone.

{edit: Two of them just popped into my mind: Brondecon - a cough medicine and some disgusting clear stuff my mother painted on my fingernails to stop me biting them - was bitter tasting??}
