General COVID-19 Vaccine Discussion

The problem is that the mask should be worn by the one who has the infection.Unfortunately I don't see western societies taking up this practice despite it's usefulness.
So masks should not be mandated then. Agree that it's a good idea when one has a respiratory infection but then think that people with other conditions, like sinus infections and hayfever will be unfairly targetted by vigilante people if they sneeze etc.

Might be a little while before under 12s get vaccinated.

Another benefit with vaccination -less likely to get long Covid.

Results of Sinovac in Chile.Basically it's efficacy was 77% at 3 weeks following second dose and IgG antibody levels began to fall after 4 weeks.

Not surprising given the significant number of Doctors and Nurses fully vaxed with the Chinese vaccines in Indonesia who died, and why they are being given moderna and pfizer boosters. Important that we do not recogise people who have had this vaccine as fully vacinated, irrespectuve that WHO endorsed such an under performing vaccine.

Reasons for anti body testing..... instead of looking at vaccination records.

Too for to be wandering

Those wanting boosters might be best advised to wait for Moderna rather than trust Pfizer.
Data collected from 18 states between March and August suggest the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine reduces the risk of being hospitalized with COVID-19 by 91% in the first four months after receiving the second dose. Beyond 120 days, however, that vaccine efficacy drops to 77%.

Meanwhile, Moderna’s vaccine was 93% effective at reducing the short-term risk of COVID-19 hospitalization and remained 92% effective after 120 days.

Well I'm not fully vaccinated yet, so boosters are a while off for me, but this is good to know.

The New York Times is reporting that the 'single dose vaccine' produced by Johnson and Johnson shows a sharp increase in effectiveness if two doses are given. Viz - "In a clinical trial, researchers found that two doses of the vaccine delivered 94 percent efficacy against mild to severe Covid-19 in the United States, up from 74 percent conferred with a single shot". I guess these findings are in-line with what was found with the other vaccines. Probably not a lot of relevance for Australia but at least it adds another effective option.

There is some relevance in that it seems to be approved for use in Australia (even though it's not part of the program) : COVID-19 vaccine: Janssen

On 25 June 2021 the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) granted provisional approval to Janssen-Cilag Pty Ltd (known as Johnson & Johnson overseas) for its COVID-19 vaccine Janssen

Maybe slightly OT but the Professor in SA who is in advanced trials for a Covid vaccine that actually prevents transmission, featured heavily in the Sky News doco about the origins of Covid in China. His work started back in the SARS era.

Here's an interesting article covering Thailand's experience with mixing and matching vaccines.

Read this article - it mentions a 'special ventilator' being trialled - is it all just talk or could it be some form of treatment to prevent potential long term effects?

🤔🤔
Long Covid in UK is a very significant issue. Many very ill people were not hospitalised early on in the pandemic..but treated at home.
I was logged in on a webinar in London w a specialist physician recently (who haS long Covid) and numbers are huge. Treatments are aimed at organ involved/physical rehab as lung/cardiac/nervous system effects can be v disabling. I don’t know of any ‘special ventilators’ .. Shane must be very special.
