COVID-19: Three-quarters of adults in UK have now had first vaccine dose - as daily cases hit two-month high
More than three-quarters of adults in the UK have now had their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock confirmed the milestone was reached by midnight on Tuesday in a speech in which he praised the role of the NHS, scientists, the UK medicines regulator the MHRA and the vaccines taskforce for the coronavirus vaccination rollout.
More than 65.6 million vaccines have now been administered across the UK between 8 December and 1 June, with over 39.5 million first doses - 75.2% of adults - and more than 26 million second doses - 49.5% of adults.
Twelve U.S. states have 70% of adults at least partially vaccinated
- Twelve U.S. states now have 70% of adult residents with at least one Covid vaccine shot, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data published Tuesday shows.
- The latest seven-day average of U.S. Covid cases is 17,289, Johns Hopkins University data shows. Many states did not publish data on Memorial Day and may still be catching up on reporting.
- The U.S. is reporting an average of 1.2 million vaccinations per day over the past week, according to the CDC.
Over 1.98B Coronavirus Vaccine Shots Given Worldwide
ANKARA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Jun, 2021 ) :- Over 1.98 billion coronavirus vaccine shots have so far been administered worldwide, figures compiled by Our World in Data, a tracking website, showed on Wednesday.
China leads the global count with 681.91 million jabs, followed by the US with 296.4 million.
India has administered 218.55 million shots, Brazil 68.24 million, the UK 65.21 million, Germany 51.54 million, France 36.78 million, Italy 35.43 million, and Mexico 30.99 million.
Turkey is ranked 10th on the list with over 29.42 million doses given, followed by Russia, Indonesia, Spain, and Canada.
The country with the most doses administered by population is the East African island nation of Seychelles, with 136.74 doses per 100 people.
Most COVID-19 vaccines are administered in two doses, so the number of shots given is not the same as the number of individuals fully vaccinated.
Since December 2019, the pandemic has claimed over 3.56 million lives in 192 countries and regions, with more than 171.2 million cases reported worldwide, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
The US, India, and Brazil remain the worst-hit countries in terms of the number of infections and deaths.
U.S. administers 296.9 mln doses of COVID-19 vaccines - CDC
The United States had administered 296,912,892 doses of COVID-19 vaccines in the country as of Wednesday morning and distributed 366,977,535 doses, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Wednesday.
Those figures are up from the 296,404,240 vaccine doses the CDC said had been administered by June 1 out of 366,317,045 doses delivered.
The agency said 168,734,435 people had received at least one dose, while 136,155,250 people had been fully vaccinated.
The CDC tally includes two-dose vaccines from Moderna (MRNA.O) and Pfizer/BioNTech (PFE.N), , as well as Johnson & Johnson's (JNJ.N) one-shot vaccine as of 6:00 a.m. ET on Wednesday.
