General COVID-19 Vaccine Discussion

No, it's just a belief I have. This ain't the first vaccine rodeo governments have dealt with (unlike everything other part of the response that has been an abject failure).
Agree, over 7 million flu vaccinations were administered by doctors and pharmacists by April 2020 for that season. This is easily scaleable for AZ with it's much easier temperature requirements cf Pfizer. EOI for Phase 2a vaccinators closes tomorrow per;
Pretty much any question you want answered for AZ 2a, 2b is on this link. There is a lot happening behind the scenes, which no-one is missing by the closure of Fakebook news haha.

Why are we not sending out the right pre-vax signals?

Time to get off the heavy booze, pop some vit D;s and zinc before during and after the jab for maximum outcome whilst no information about asymptomatic carrier stats is known.

In other news, the Oxford Mk1 first shot appears effective, with the formulation and timing of the booster needing refinement.

Sad really that negativity continues to surround the AZ shot. I still would get vaccinated tomorrow with this one if possible.

Unfortunately I have seen an increase of anti-vax rhetoric from some people I know on Facebook in past days. It is not educated pondering but rather uneducated rubbish.

I would hope that Fakebook continues to block news. That way, everything left on that charlatan channel that purports to provide factual information, will be identified for the gossip and misinformation that well-researched observers know to be true.

Sadly, it looks like the chances of that happening may not be particularly good...
So you have to wait until March to be vaccinated by your GP.No big deal.
As to the delay in the finish date due to the recommended 12 week gap between shots i have already posted the link to the effectiveness of reducing transmission after the first dose pf the Oxford vaccine. But here it is again.

The Israeli experience is showing that a delay between doses of the Pfizer vaccine isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I'll be interested to see how people will be able to prove underlying medical conditions if their Doctors don't upload to my Health and they can't go to their usual clinic. I guess GP's will be writing quite a few letters.

Exactly. And it's something that I'm personally concerned about, being in Group 1B.

Further, I'm also concerned about the reports of widespread instances of side effects with the AZ vaccine in Europe, something that doesn't seem to have been mentioned much here in Australia...

With roll out in 2 days, for those willing to share personal accounts

Watching the rallies on the news tonight.. imagine a world if they are right and they're the only ones left standing! 😷

Every consultation has an item number. Every PBS script written is encoded. It would be real easy for someone to write a report(s), in say SQL to automatically identify needy cases, such as allergies, immune drugs, cancer, rare conditions, sorted by age, state name and medicare number and cost of benefits consumed in the last 12 months, excluding those who are dead or overseas. It would be negligent for the minister or any committee NOT to know these numbers. Someone should pop that question to the minister - using medicare history - is there enough pifzer to go around. Bonus points for the report to adjust for conditions like pregnancy, and those who did time in jail or remand, morbidly obese who sting PBS, and sexworker politicians who kiss babies.

There should also be an easy list - Those that had the traditional flu shot every year, and who never had any trouble with it. These people can go into the fast lane, walk-in and walk-out jobs.

There should be a closing the gap service, so really remote areas get a dose of drugs to treat scabies. The problem here is there are NO doctors in some places. One minister was fond of saying 'Must pass the Melville Island Test' later extended to APY land.

The first 20 Aussies get the Pfizer vaccine at about 11-12 today in Castle Hill (Sydney). Chief Midwife, Federal CHO and PM were number 10, 11 and 12.

ABC news re: initial vaccine distribution - not sure how accurate or complete the numbers are....so calmly take with a grain of salt.

Here is the plan for the vaccine roll out in each state and territory

  • NSW will aim vaccinate 35,000 frontline workers within the first three weeks
  • The Victorian Government will have 12,000 doses for the first week of phase 1a and up to 59,000 doses for the first four weeks
  • Queensland will have 100 doses for the Gold Coast tomorrow and will aim to vaccinate 27,000 key workers in the first month
  • South Australia will aim to vaccinate 1,726 frontline workers at Adelaide Airport and the medi-hotel system this week and will have 12,000 for the next three weeks
  • About 5,000 doses will be administered by mid-March with about 1,100 of those reserved for aged and disability care
  • In the ACT, about 4,000 doses have been flagged for the first week
  • Tasmania and the Northern Territory won't start their roll out tomorrow
  • About 5,000 doses will be coming to WA each week for the first three weeks
Tasmania will begin their vaccination rollout on Tuesday and will have 2,340 doses ready for the first three weeks, which will double to 4,680 from the fourth week as phase 1b begins.

The rollout will begin in the Top End next week, with about 3,000 vaccinations set to be offered to the most high-risk groups as part of the first phase.

Those in the second phase are expected to receive vaccinations in mid-to-late March, but the wider population shouldn't expect a vaccination until the second half of 2021.

Seems very very wrong that Vic are getting more doses than NSW especially since NSW has a population 20% larger, and NSW is actually taking overseas arrivals unlike Vic.
Agree on face value but perhaps Victoria has a higher percentage of people at risk - ie in residential care?

But isn’t it an apples vs oranges comparison?

The figure for NSW is number vaccinated in first 3 weeks, the Vic figure is number of doses received within the first four weeks, so impossible to draw any conclusions as to who is receiving more doses from these two pieces of information.

Thanks for sharing.

I would note though your advice to so calmly take with a grain of salt as it is a collection of apples and oranges in the data. Both in some talking only about some of who are getting vaccinated, and others using different time periods. Also a difference between doses and people.

Some talk of total doses in a state, some just reference frontline/ key workers. We know that the elderly are a key target in the first round.

I would be confident the Feds have worked out an appropriate scheduled balancing risk to catch it and risk for the health compromised if they catch CV19.

Ah - but NSW has everything under control to prevent the spread! We don't in Victoria, apparently. So we need the vaccine more :D
