Jet fuel and ticket prices are soaring, free amenities have vanished, but airlines expect a busy summer
Airlines are expecting the busiest travel season in 40 years this summer, but passengers are going to be paying higher fares and undoubtedly enjoying it all less as they sit in crowded cabins and shell out for snacks, pillows and other amenities that used to be free.
But according to industry trade groups, travel agents and analysts, few travelers are hesitating to make a trip despite the higher fares brought on primarily by still soaring prices for jet fuel. "The planes are going to be chock-a-block full," David Stempler, president of the Air Travelers Association in suburban Washington, D.C., said earlier this week. "There are going to be lines everywhere."
