My latest QF ticket - fare $150, "taxes" $194.27 for total $347.27 :x
I am awaiting my latest fare tax calculation. My estimate is that it will be $876.96, so we will see how close I am to the mark :p .

Which carrier(s)? AY only? Or is BA included? I don't understand the tax component you mention for such a long trip.

Hi there

This an AY only fare, not sure how they work out the taxes :? (I was $5 out) Whats an YR tax?

Not sure what the YR stands for, but its not a tax code. The total taxes comes to 148 Singapore Dollars. The tax breakdown is shown at the end of the fare calculation line as follows:
ROE - the Rate Of Exchange from NUC (a standard unit used for air fare calculations, basically equal to US$1) to Singapore Dollars. The total fare in NUC is 521.88, and multiple that by the ROE of 1.68619 and you get the S$880 noted.

The combination after the ROE value is the tax component calculation.

I think XT is the fuel surcharge applied by AY, similar to QF's YQ (not 100% sure on that one)
WL is the Finland Passenger Fee International (Transit)
GB is the UK Air Passenger Duty
UB is the UK Passenger Service Charge
DV - don't know what that one is

Try the latest sale SIN-DRW-SIN $348 + $323 in taxes. Taxes are almost the same as the fare, common place domestically but not internationally.
Yes forgot about the good old SIN-DRW-SIN fare. It would be more realistic if the airfare was $500 + $171 in taxes.

It's getting beyond ridiculous, IMO. They have gutted the value of FF points and therefore the program is becoming a joke. :evil:

Hi there

So in my case the fuel surcharge is only S$24, thats S$6 per sector or S$4 per sector if you take into account the BKK stop on this service :shock:

Either AY has made an error in the calculation on this fare or some of the other airlines are taking us for a ride :?

That would indeed apear to be the case, though I can't find any way to verify that XT is fuel surcharge. It does not appear in any QF lists and hence why I am assuming it is specific to the issuing airline.

Ok, found out some more details. XT stands for Combined Taxes. Its not a tax code of its own. The rest is as follows:
WL=Finlan Passenger Fee = S$24
GB=UK Air Passenger Duty = S$57
UB=UK Passenger Service Charge = S$37
DV=???? = S$30

Hi there

I think DV must be the S$30 service fee chargeable on online bookings :?

The Finnair website mentioned this somewhere.

Great visibility when DV is defined as "Not to be assigned for industry use." :roll:
Indeed. That was all I could find for it as well. I think DJ737 may have it right.

On my current ticket, the YQ and YR fuel surcharges are listed separately to the XT combined taxes. So either there are no fuel surcharges imposed by AY, or they are listed separately.

Jet fuel and ticket prices are soaring, free amenities have vanished, but airlines expect a busy summer

Airlines are expecting the busiest travel season in 40 years this summer, but passengers are going to be paying higher fares and undoubtedly enjoying it all less as they sit in crowded cabins and shell out for snacks, pillows and other amenities that used to be free.

But according to industry trade groups, travel agents and analysts, few travelers are hesitating to make a trip despite the higher fares brought on primarily by still soaring prices for jet fuel. "The planes are going to be chock-a-block full," David Stempler, president of the Air Travelers Association in suburban Washington, D.C., said earlier this week. "There are going to be lines everywhere."

Delta Adds USD$10 Trans-Atlantic Surcharge
June 8, 2006

Delta Air Lines on Thursday said it has raised passenger surcharges on some trans-Atlantic flights by USD$10 each way to help offset high fuel costs.

The Atlanta-based airline said it raised the surcharge on tickets purchased on or after Thursday for most of its trans-Atlantic flights from the Western Hemisphere.
