Can anybody advise why it seems that in almost every e-mail newsletter, there is some statement which appears to be wrong, or later corrected. For example, quoting what a QF representative apparently said over the telephone. Or in the last newsletter, saying that one option was to abuse the ANZ operator unfortunate enough to take your call.

To maintain the credibility of the newsletter, may I suggest that such "quotes" from airline representatives are backed up with supporting information such as the staff ID number or better still , get it in writing.

Another example that comes to light is the QF representative claiming that your do not earn QF FFP's for Telecard transactions. A quick call to Telstra Telecard would have soon sorted that confusion up, though I guess that would mean less waffle in the newsletter.

Sure, the newsletter service is free, but the poor quality journalism hardly inspires me to upgrade to the paid-for premium service.

As we believe this Bulletin Board is a public forum, we don't usually participate in discusions. However, I do feel compelled to respond to this posting:

The posting starts off with "Can anybody advise ...", clearly the only person who could advise would be myself (admin) or Ben the editor of the Gazette. Hardya why didn't you simply address the question to us? Our contact details are available throughout the website and newsletter. I suspect the answer has a lot to do with trying to damage the credibility of our newsletter, and I wonder what your motivation is.

An error in "almost every e-mail newsletter"? We have published almost 50 newsletters over the last 4 years. I am aware of maybe 3 or 4 errors we have made during this entire period. Hardya lists two examples, both of which were comments we were making on postings submitted by users of this Bulletin Board on the Bulletin Board. Instead of making general and unsubstantiated statements, I challange Hardya to list the errors in "every e-mail newsletter". Send me an email or post them for the world to see on this Bulletin Board.

We take great pride in what we do, and honestly believe we offer a professsional, objective (and free, I might add) service. Sure we make errors at times (thing are always corrected in the following publication) and we always welcome genuine and constructive feedback.

Hardya,
This is a discussion forum. People who post questions or reply do that for the exact reasons - ask questions/help and provide answers. They do not have to do a lot of research. People here do not pay / get paid for posting here. If a member makes an error, in his/her post another member will correct it. It is as simple as that. This is a forum for sharing info. Obviously higher the reliability of the info, higher the usage. I think there are some great members who provide a lot of useful info. Take some time to read the posts. I definitely benefitted from this forum.

Arun : my comments were in regards to the newsletters, not in regards to contributions to Bulletin Board participants. However, if the newsletter is to quote Bulletin Board participants, then I would have thought it would be prudent to make a few background enquiries before going to print.

Admin : I do apologise if my comments were a bit harsh - but do hope my comments will be taken on board and result in your services becoming more accurate and in the long-run, more successful. My initial claim of "almost every e-mail" having errors was definitely overstated, however I can think of numerous examples of "an airline representative quoted X number of points" (which was wrong) or news of an offer, which when researched, was found to not be applicable for Australian residents. I thank you for your challenge, however, I feel that the challenge is now up to you to continue providing a good service, and to improve on it. As the point has now been made, please feel free to remove this thread on the discussion if you feel it is appropriate.

Well, hardya, then we look forward to you actually posting something of substance that the members of this Bulletin Board gain benefit.

The editors (and the members) take members comments at face value. As they (the editors) are not paid, it would seem impractical to make background checks (unlike other journalists who don't bother and are paid to gather the facts).

We all (you included) participate on out own time....some like "giving" of their own knowledge so others may benefit from our experience to better their own travel experience. We don't like "takers" - I for one hope you aren't one...because you won't last long around here or any other FF board if that's the case...

Without going into the arguments either way - I love the newsletters, and value what they contain - the latest one DID say that QF and UA had just opened a new shared lounge in LAX.

So whilst I think that the original poster was somewhat OTT, there was a small element - albeit a VERY small element - of truth in his post.

Yeah, but as Lindsay says, the efforts of site administrators often goes unheralded. If there is a mistake I for one vote that we cut their salary. Geez we could even sack them!!!

I value productive input. To those of you who provide it, thanks.

Latest newsletter

Rather than take my initial comments on-board as constructive criticism, and aim to improve the newsletter service (thus encouraging more people to sign-up for the paid gold member service), it would appear that the management of The Australian Frequent Flyer would like to extend the bickering by adding a hyperlink to my initial posting in the latest newsletter. Far from professional to throw a tantrum in this way.

I am sure we have all experienced it. We are at a party having idle chit-chat when someone, a newcomer to the festivities, chimes in and says his bit. Not in a constructive way but in a manner that suggests that everyone else really doesn't know what they are talking about, and that we should pay more attention to him as he really has all the answers.

Hardya, welcome to the party. I know that my volume of postings does not make me a core member of the festivities but I feel I at least had the manners to show respect to those who actually arranged the party. Stand in the background for a bit, have the occasional nibble and contribute when you can.

I will say it again, knock the administator when it is really deserved. I cannot see any real problem with the comments in Flyer Talk. After all it was included in the Member's Talk section. You are a member (albeit a negative one given the tone of each of your 5 posts) and have a right to voice your opinion. Don't complain if the rest of us disagree and wish to support the people who make this forum possible.

Hardya,

I must completely agree with sully :!:

We all appreciate constructive comment, so please give us some. HOWEVER, as they say "If you don't like the water, get out of the pool :!: "
