Frequent Flyer the Documentary

I had not seen that video before. The one I had seen was where a flyer had 30 million points and was adding points faster than he could use them.
I now think his family had not figured his account Pin number to help him out!

Anyone knows of the CNN business traveler video where the entire episode is about frequent flyers , it was aired somewhere around the release dates of Up in the Air (movie):confused:

I don't know if this is a good sign, but I find it inspirational...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

This board always makes me think of the George Clooney movie "Up in the Air" and they have this scene in the movie which pretty much tops it :)

Natalie Keener: Hungry much?

Ryan Bingham: Our business expense allots forty dollars each for dinner. I plan on grabbing as many miles as I can.

Natalie Keener: Okay, you got to fill me in on the miles thing. What is that about? You're talking about, like, frequent flyer miles?

Ryan Bingham: You really want to know?

Natalie Keener: I'm dying to know.

Ryan Bingham: I don't spend a nickel, if I can help it, unless it somehow profits my mileage account.

Natalie Keener: So, what are you saving up for? Hawaii? South of France?

Ryan Bingham: It's not like that. The miles are the goal.

Natalie Keener: That's it? You're saving just to save?

Ryan Bingham: Let's just say that I have a number in mind and I haven't hit it yet.

Natalie Keener: That's a little abstract. What's the target?

Ryan Bingham: I'd rather not...

Natalie Keener: Is it a secret target?

Ryan Bingham: It's ten million miles.

Natalie Keener: Okay. Isn't ten million just a number?

Ryan Bingham: Pi's just a number.

Natalie Keener: Well, we all need a hobby. No, I- I- I don't mean to belittle your collection. I get it. It sounds cool.

Ryan Bingham: I'd be the seventh person to do it. More people have walked on the moon.

Natalie Keener: Do they throw you a parade?

Ryan Bingham: You get lifetime executive status. You get to meet the chief pilot, Maynard Finch.

Natalie Keener: Wow.

Ryan Bingham: And they put your name on the side of a plane.

Natalie Keener: Men get such hardons from putting their names on things. You guys don't grow up. It's like you need to pee on everything.

I know the feeling... not letting my wife see this video! She might think I'm addicted or something! That's crazy! All I did last Sunday was fly to and from Auckland, but everyone does that on the weekend don't they?? :D

It helps if you can cover it up by going to a sports match for a few hours....maybe a bit of cricket, soccer or something to hide the crazy bits in the first 50 years of marriage....

Interesting documentary, I've made a donation to the KickStart fund to see a full length film.

The great thing about the movie, I can relate to these people yet they are still crazier than me!

What a fantastic video - love it! It's weird when you see people (FTers) in the video that you have met.

Some memorable quotes:

"Frequent Flyers tend to be very social in nature by the shared interest in frequent flyer miles...it's like anything else - corvettes, needlepoint you name it out there". Randy Petersen

"Elite status really is the difference between in my opinion in flying to get somewhere & enjoying flying". Edward Pizzarello

"I've come to Japan again just for the weekend this time.....this is one of my favourite parts, fresh off of a trans-Pacific flight a bit bleary eyed & somehow it's more fun knowing that I'll be leaving again in a couple of days". Gabriel Leigh

Love the guy who hired 10 unemployed rice farmers to fly between Chiang Mai & Chiangi Rai on an USD8.00 fare 4 times a day for 6 weeks that enabled him to accumulate over 4,000,000 frequent flyer miles & his Thai employees to earn 3 times the minimum wage for doing it. The local US DEA office asked him to come in for a chat thinking he was employing people as drug mules as it was in the middle of the Golden Triangle after all.

Last month, I had a (normal 2-day) weekend where I did my masters exam in SIN, taken a photo of the bar girl and myself and have it put up onto the wall of a bar in TPE, and met up with my friend for lunch in HKG, only to be back at work on Monday in SIN.

I think this is something that only people on this board would understand.

Loved all these quotes... I didn't realise that you could earn points on flights you yourself wern't flying on...

I was thinking the same, perhaps he had some sort of business membership setup with the airline where by all appoints accrued by his 'staff' were credited to a communal pot.

I was wondering the same thing. You'd thing the airline would get suss if there were 10 bookings for him to fly simultaneously several times a day for 6 weeks.

You'd think they would get sus, but perhaps he spotted a loop hole in the system? Maybe the points were being earned in the travellers name and the transferred? Not sure as he doesn't go into detail about it other than to say the fed thought he was a drug runner.

And the fun all comes crashing down when we realise that being a Frequent Flyer isn't a pick-up line, and that women aren't into blokes who fly crazy routes for the miles :D

(Excluding people who are either George Cluney, or look like him).
