Well the good news is - I just made it to Platinum for the first time :) with plenty of time to spare (15 days!)... am looking forward to my new little black package.

Just a quick question on those Singapore lounges - do I need to be flying on a OW ticket to gain access even as WP? I'm flying with Singapore Airlines and am a newbie Kris flyer...

Thanks!

Do Qantas ever relax the one visitor rule for International lounges :?:

I'm quite happy to ask, just thought that someone may have "been there done that" :) :) :) :)

I have seen it happen at MEL, though in a slightly unorthodox manner. Myself and another QP member were already in the the QP with one guest between us. Two more guests lobbed at the QP front desk and paged or phoned us, my QP member friend went to the desk and returned with both of them. So I guess it ended up 1.5 guests each. :)

Cheers

I have taken my Family (wife and 2 young kids) into the Qantas Club approximately 10 times - both domestic and international. They have never batted an eyelid, but I'm sure the day will come when the lounge is full and they choose to enforce the 1-guest rule.

On the other hand BA will never let you take more than 1 guest in, regardless of how busy they are. Seems like the class system is alive and well in good old Blighty.

Cheers,

AC

P.S. It probably wouldn't hurt to contact the QC beforehand to sound them out about extra guests. I think I may take this step before the next trip, as there's nothing worse than turning up early at the airport to get everything squared away and then finding that half your party will have to slum it in the terminal for 2 hours. Bboy was my wife pissed or what! ...No, hang on .... that was me after the G&T's!!!

It is a stated policy of the QP that children aged 3 and under do not count as guests. From here:

My guess is that they are probably not too strict on the "3 and under", but as my elder daughter is still 3 I haven't had to test it yet.

As I wise man once said, "I reject your reality, and substitute my own".
Is your reality better than mine :?: :p

Or are we all living in someone else's reality :?: :(

My reality may be considered to relate on an inverse proportional basis to the cost of HP's in a QP against the cost of HP's in a GL*.

So last time when they were 4 and 2 I was slightly indulged by the Door cough, but this year they will be 6 and 4 so if anyone is flying QF1 on the 30th of March and would like to be "Daddy/Mummy" for a few minutes ....

Cheers,

AC

JohnK - what the cough has a departure lounge got to do with reality? I bet it has nothing to do with yours!

Absolutely nothing.

Don't get all serious on me now. Take the comment for what it was. A pot stirrer, a smart @rse remark from a naive person, a cheap shot, an opportunity to pad posting counts. Look at the emoticons involved. It wasn't a personal shot at you.

And just in case you wanted to get in touch reality one day. Try it. Forget the people that frequent AFF, the majority (98.5% and possibly more) of people "slum it in a terminal for 2 hours". That is reality. My reality. That is the reality of the majority. Not sugar coated. Not elitist. Just plain ordinary people. They don't know any better. Wouldn't even know a lounge existed let alone what it looked like.

Worried if you had to slum it in a terminal for 2 hours. Get real. It is not the end of the world. There are surely more important things in life to worry about.

I'm generally quite happy sitting out in the terminal for a couple of hours if I've got a nice possie by a window, a power point for my laptop, and a source of food and drink not too far away. SFO one spring afternoon was fabulous.

But later that night I spent several hours in LAX T4 listening to that cough loudspeaker recorded voice telling me to watch my belongings every few minutes. In January I'd spent twelve hours there waiting for the midnight hop.

It's LAX T4 that convinced me to take out QC membership. I might not want to spend thousands of dollars for a seat upgrade on a long-haul sector, but a few hundred dollars for a bit of comfort, especially considering the amount of travel I've got planned for this year, that's a no-brainer.

Reality for frequent fliers is perhaps a little different to reality for those who only fly once or twice a year. Or not at all.

Mine was certainly hurting this morning. :?

The HP's were sourced neither from a QP nor a GL; they were just as effective. 8)

As I've said before on several occasions. I am extremely jealous of any and everyone who gets upgrades handed to them.

It's never happened to me :!:

I spent 5 hours there last week, and had more guests than I could admit to the lounge. That guy has got a really irritating voice, and it is still resonating in my head. Thanks for reminding me :)

I ignore (and abhor) emoticons. If you can't tell that I am taking this piss then that's your problem.

And to be serious for a minute - I have no problem with the existence of the public areas of airport terminals, or the people who choose to frequent them. Sometimes (depending on airline and airport) I will have to "slum it" with the majority, but I choose and pay to be a QC member so that I have the option to have a drink, read the paper, catch up on work, and generally have a higher level of comfort. Sort of like paying for a business class seat.

But once on the plane I join the rest of the cattle in the back - so don't fear that I am developing a superiority complex .... that's for the wankers at the pointy end of the plane.

Cheers,

AC
