Four champagnes on offer now in the SYD F lounge

The pinnacle of Champagne is Krug Clos D'Ambonnay, a 100% Pinot Noir that eclipses even the 100% Chardonnay Clos du Mesnil. Dom Perignon do a decent rosé; as do Champagne Devaux with a 100% Pinot Noir they call Rosé Intense; and if you come a across bottles of the 1995 Dom Oenotheque, I suggest you grab them as they are becoming scarce.

Taittinger (at least the NV blend) is suitable for making Champagne coughtails. NV Moet is suitable for using as a base for summer punch. Chandon NV is suitable for getting rid of unwanted guests, or unblocking drains.
Spoken like a true purveyor of Champagnes. I loved the last paragraph, LMAO on my bus to a Conference this morning and had a few strange looks

I think the F Lounges had DP served at one time, although not any more. Krug is served on some QF F sectors (ex-LHR I think?), although that also may not be the case any more.

QF seem to have settled on the Taittinger Comtes De Champagne on all their F sectors (I think that's what it's called anyway). I haven't had Dom onboard since about 2008 if memory serves correctly, either on the pacific or asia/LHR routes.

I actually raised the 'lack of Dom' issue with Qantas at their recent travel show in Canberra - apparently I'm not the only person to make the comment especially as all the advertising material for the A380 still shows the flight attendants happily pouring Dom to the well dressed folk in the First cabin. Their official line seems to be that as the Taittinger is more expensive than the Dom it is therefore 'better', hence the change.

Slight surprise this morning. They are now offering Bollinger Special Cuvee in the SYD F lounge as well the lovely Veuve Deveaux, acceptable Veuve Cliquot and vomit inducing Tattinger.

Sadly i missed out as i had ordered my Deveaux and only overhead that they had bolly...
A surprise for only those who haven't flown for a bit!

.

Does that mean to say I have been to the First lounge a few times, 4 times this year already.

Still not the Bollinger 95 in the BA Galleries F, but a small step in the right direction...:)

PS - I did mention on FB the new Bolly option a month or so ago, and as I recall you commented on it....:p

Thanks for the FB update as this is when I first heard of the addition of the Bollinger.

I am sorry but went through SYD F on Wed and tried the Bollinger and was not that impressed, maybe after having the Veuve first it might have left a different taste.

Depends on your taste and, as samh004 alluded to, does depend also on how it was tasted.

You may not like Bollinger, period. So be it.

I personally find the Veuve a bit sweet, perhaps to me it feels a bit artificially sweet. That's my opinion. I used to enjoy Deveaux a lot but after giving Taittinger another go I was hooked.

Admittedly my first foray into Bollinger was BA F Bollinger Annee 1999. A wonderfully honeyed number but subdued enough not to leave a sweet aftertaste. The non-vintage Bollinger in the F Lounge doesn't come as good, but I still hold it as a steadfast choice.

Probably my favourite is the Taittinger,, but the first champagne of any First lounge visit goes down very well, maybe a little too well. ;)

5 now?

I enjoyed a few glasses of Bollinger Rose in the F lounge today :)

You are all very cruel ;)

I'll have to be resigned to my Lindemans Early Harvest Sparkling in the DJ Lounge for now:!:

I didn't hear it mentioned when I was there on Friday, either way, the other Bollinger they had was a nice enough drop.

I was trying to remember where the Krug was.
Of course it was SQ.
4 choices of champagne out at SYD F lounge is pretty good.
That is catering for all our different tastes.

Interesting. Here's hoping it's migrated to the MEL lounge as well for my visits over the next week:)

Did it make it there?

It's still in the F lounge in SYD as of last Friday, but not on the menu. Once again I enjoyed a few more glasses of it :)

How much does it cost duty free? In fact, how much do they all cost duty free? I know the Taittinger is about ~150 for 2 bottles, as I’m amassing a small cellar full.

Champagne Gallery has it around $165/bottle but that's retail.

Nothing on the First DF for the Rose, but they have the cuvee at $99.

I'll keep an eye out for it DF though :)

You would have been better purchasing when you left the UK, it's so cheap over here!

I think I would have, other than having to stop in SIN and them doing their usual confiscation of anything not bought there when re-boarding ;)

Either way, wish I had bought a few bottles in one of the stores on Piccadilly, but there’ll always be a next time.

Yeh, was going to say ; just as good buying from Sainsburys or Tesco.

Gee Flashware you really know how to make us envious. There you are in London drinking fine champagnes at affordable prices.....and all we can do is get a few bubbles by travelling through these 2 lounges.
Actually the price of champagne and spirits in the US is just amazingly low as well.
In Australia the Governments love the revenue they pull off alcohol. So much so I would say they are addicted.
Anyway both Sydney and Melbourne have champagne in the F lounges but it appears the numbers of folks in those lounges is going to crash once the new access rules kick in early next year.
