Slight surprise this morning. They are now offering Bollinger Special Cuvee in the SYD F lounge as well the lovely Veuve Deveaux, acceptable Veuve Cliquot and vomit inducing Tattinger.

Sadly i missed out as i had ordered my Deveaux and only overhead that they had bolly...

Slight surprise this morning.

A surprise for only those who haven't flown for a bit!

In April they still had only three varieties; not sure when the Bollinger was added to the list. I had the pleasure of imbibing it not too long ago.

vomit inducing Tattinger

Oh you are so cruel. :p Our tastes are very different then...

Still not the Bollinger 95 in the BA Galleries F, but a small step in the right direction...:)

PS - I did mention on FB the new Bolly option a month or so ago, and as I recall you commented on it....:p

Oops i missed that one...

Not sure how i missed it in my visit here three weeks ago...

I’ll pass the list on to my dad when he arrives later today, I’m sure he’ll be very happy when he heads to the states next week.

I am sorry but went through SYD F on Wed and tried the Bollinger and was not that impressed, maybe after having the Veuve first it might have left a different taste.

Depends on your taste and, as samh004 alluded to, does depend also on how it was tasted.

You may not like Bollinger, period. So be it.

I personally find the Veuve a bit sweet, perhaps to me it feels a bit artificially sweet. That's my opinion. I used to enjoy Deveaux a lot but after giving Taittinger another go I was hooked.

Admittedly my first foray into Bollinger was BA F Bollinger Annee 1999. A wonderfully honeyed number but subdued enough not to leave a sweet aftertaste. The non-vintage Bollinger in the F Lounge doesn't come as good, but I still hold it as a steadfast choice.

I have not been to SYD F Lounge in ages but may try all 4 champagnes on my next visit beginning of October.

Surely you cleaned your palette between glasses?! :p
Clean palette or not I can almost guarantee that I will not be able to tell the difference between the 4 champagnes. ;)

I think the selection sounds quite good.

As this thread demonstrates everyone has quite different tastes but those 4 cover them quite well.

I'm a big fan of the taittinger (as far as NV's go) but obviously some aren't...

Also I think that comparisons to Galleries may not be quite equal because those excellent selections were just available due to Concorde room (well above a first lounge) spill over and also (correct me if i'm wrong) but i think the recent selection is significantly reduced from the likes of grand annee......

jakob.

JohnK, I'm with you there. I have never really drunk much Champagne and think my next chance to sample won't be condusive to my ability to look after my kids

I shall sample both the Krug and Dom Perignon on SQ this week and report back to let you know how they both are!:mrgreen:

Looks like the Brisbane crowd drink alike, well, count me in. I'm in Melb Flounge wk after next, will give them all a go. Not a big fan of Champagne, but when in Rome do as the Romans...

BTW, what is on offer in AKL F Lounge?

I'm with you on this one John.. Bubbles are not my thing!

If you're lucky, it's probably Moet & Chandon NV, i.e. bubbles for bubbles sake. Only partially better than the fake Chandon NV in the domestic lounges in Australia.

Not exactly fair - these will be (best) vintage champagnes :) cf. non-vintage which is served in the lounges.

As always, one could say, "Well I couldn't split the difference. Looks like we need another attempt. More champagne, please!"

Having had Dom Perignon before... not to my liking but understandably for some people it is the pinnacle of champagnes. I think the F Lounges had DP served at one time, although not any more. Krug is served on some QF F sectors (ex-LHR I think?), although that also may not be the case any more.

Another in almost agreement. I'll taste the difference and will like one more than another but it really is not that significant to me :!:

I only categorise them as drinkable and undrinkable. ;)

The pinnacle of Champagne is Krug Clos D'Ambonnay, a 100% Pinot Noir that eclipses even the 100% Chardonnay Clos du Mesnil. Dom Perignon do a decent rosé; as do Champagne Devaux with a 100% Pinot Noir they call Rosé Intense; and if you come a across bottles of the 1995 Dom Oenotheque, I suggest you grab them as they are becoming scarce.

Taittinger (at least the NV blend) is suitable for making Champagne coughtails. NV Moet is suitable for using as a base for summer punch. Chandon NV is suitable for getting rid of unwanted guests, or unblocking drains.
