I can only echo the comments re Jetconnect crews...they have been pretty generally excellent.

I agree as well, the crew is always friendly and pleasant on Jetconnect. Saying that- pretty much all Kiwis are in my experience! :)

Echo the comments of many here. Flew Trans-Tasman this week on Jetconnect and fantastic service as usual. On the return flight (QF44) crew offered newspapers down to about row 9 and I witnessed the CSM (Ellie?) greet who I assume were WPs and express passes were handed out. Crew were also generous with the bar service . A flight were a CSM actually led a team and all the crew looked like they actually wanted to be at work!

Although Trans Tasman seems to be a race to the bottom (NZ no J on 320, VA poor IFE, JQ being JQ), I have nothing but positive experiences on Jetconnect. The 738s, whilst tight in Y offer a reasonable IFE selection which helps pass the 3 hours with great crew. Whilst I might dabble with EK now that they tie-up has been approved, QF will still be high on the list.

Compare this to my 747 flight last week (long haul) - like chalk and cheese. Staff appeared to be disinterested, just running through the motions. IMO Jetconnect offer the most consistent and friendly service of all branches of QF.

Dredging this up from the archives to ask:

I booked a flight WLG-MEL yesterday on QF's site (for which I deserve a medal as it was not behaving correctly!) and was unable to select a seat unless I wanted to pay a $25 fee. This seems outrageous to me - I'm happy to pay a fee for an exit row but not just for a normal seat. Is this normal/new? How do I get an acceptable allocation? (also, I did this once on Jetstar - paid for a seat - and my flight was cancelled, and I did not get my money back for not getting my booked seat, grr)

(I also did not realise JetConnect existed until I got to the final screen where it said "operated by JetConnect", it's been a long time since I went to NZ).

Paying for a seat is normal with QF if you don't have status on international flights. My Jetconnect crew on Thursday were very good on a full flight.

Cannot help with the seat, but Jetconnect is an NZ based Qantas - enables them to employ staff on NZ conditions. It looks and feels exactly like Qantas and the crews are usually good. Only difference you'll notice is the accents and the planes are NZ registered.

And BA ask non status passengers to pay for seat allocation even when you book business class

QF web site have behaving correctty since it was last modified/upgraded/enhanced.

Just flew with them over Easter - the staff are simply amazing. Never felt that welcome on board

I flew with them a few weekends ago (SYD-ZQN and AKL-SYD) and the service was great. Newspapers and blankets offered to Y passengers.

And paying extra to choose a seat is not new for international flights. An unfortunate result of increasing competition pushing prices down.

Happy crew - Horrid (J) cabin

If QF want to be competitive with their J (considering J products on EK, LA, NZ 767s/777s etc.) they really should at least install the new J-style seats.

Pretty unlikely to happen on a fleet of 737's you'd imagine

Do you mean the red leather Recaro J class seats on the newish BSI 737's or the new A330 J suites?.

You'll find that the A330 J suites will be too heavy for the 737's unless payload restrictions are imposed which I don't think QF wants to do on TT runs. Though that doesn't justify why they charge a premium price for a recliner...

On a side note Jetconnect are removing 1 aircraft from their fleet (More JQ services). The aircraft will be transferred back to mainline ops soon, looking at flightaware and ZK-ZQB (ex VH-VZG) has been under Maintenance at Brisbane since March 9, Air NZ provides maintenance for Jetconnects fleet and it's unusual that this aircraft has been sent to BNE.

Perhaps, though surely they could at least use the newer red J seats like they have on the BSI 737s.

Why would they incur that cost for essentially is a very similar seat? (Recliner, 37-38 inches of pitch, IFE)

Fai point. I think they really should have installed the newer seats in the first place, but obviously changing them now would be costly.

Oh and all that being said, I do quite like the Jetconnect product otherwise.

IME and IMO there really is little need to install the flat bed style seats on the Jetconnect 737. I would appreciate some more pitch but for the 3-4 hour flights that these aircraft do there is not sufficient time for most people to try to get some sleep, and the new amenity kits really are a bit of a waste and I predict will be withdrawn in the near future.
I would also like to add that not all Jetconnect aricraft have the same Business Class seats, eg earlier ones do not have USB ports.
For Economy I think the 737 product is overall very good you get better seating on NZ if you can get the PE seats, and even Space+ but not many of those available.
