Hi there,

First time poster, long time (and very appreciative) lurker. I'll be flying from NZ back to MEL in the next week on or around my birthday. I was just wondering if anyone knew whether this makes one iota of a difference at all? Or if anyone can share any good or not-so-good experiences? For what it's worth I'd be flying Air NZ and I'm a Koru Club member...

Thanks in advance.

You might get a better reception by whoever's meeting you?

It's unlikely to make any difference to your onboard experience from the airline though.

What if you wear a T shirt that says " 21 ( or whatever) TODAY" and wear a birthday hat and a few colorful streamers wrapped around your neck.
Either you get First Class or kicked off but you will remember this birthday forever.............hmmmmm...........enjoy the day.

It certainly can but my circumstances were faily unusual.I was flying Fiji airways from the Solomons to Port Moresby.I was sitting outside the old Nissan hut that was the terminal at Henderson field.i was propped up on my pack-this was the old days and I was a backpacker. There was no baggage service-you were meant to lug your bags to the plane-though they did put them into the hold for you.about 20 minutes before schedule a uniformed guy came over and said are you drron-sure am.Well I am the captain and you are the only passenger,do you want to go now?Yes.So he carried my pack to the plane.Although i had a BP it was sit anywhere you want.
So we took off,Captain, copilot, engineer and 2 FAs plus drron. It was my birthday so I let them know. The FA went to the coughpit and came back saying the Captain was having an open bar for the flight:shock:.Later the engineer came back and joined me.
Arriving at POM I came down the stairs with an FA on each arm and the military b and started playing God Save the Queen-it was 1969.The Aussie GG was expected.
So it wa a birthday I will never forget.
Today-forget it.Tell them and you may be lucky.Never know if you never ask.

I remember a Qantas flight across the Pacific a few years ago where once we'd crossed the international date line it was announced there was a birthday on board. I think the little girl turned 10. Exciting for her and her family.

My father scored an upgrade on CX. He's a Marco Polo Silver. But my mother had to remain in economy.

I once had customs/immigration in Singapore sing Happy Birthday when they checked my passport and noticed it was my birthday. Other than that, nothing special has ever happened to me.

When I flew SYD-LAX earlier in the year, the couple in seats 13C/D were op-upped because it was their 50th wedding anniversay!! They were getting alot of well wishes and attention from the cabin crew, and I remember the couple calling one of their children whilst we were onboard and saying "we've been upgraded to business, its so exciting because we would never be able to afford this".

That's an awesome story. Just wish it was still like that.

That's a little

It was strange! I was standing there waiting for them to process me (two customs/immigrations officers) and they kept looking at the passport, looking up at me, looking at the passport. Here I am thinking "Oh great, what is wrong....." Then they both suddenly burst out in song!

He didn't accept the upgrade and LEAVE her behind in Economy on her own did he? Brave man, people have been divorced for less.

Don't know if this counts, my partner has completely missed a birthday by being on a plane (after leaving N America in the evening and arriving in Australia 2 days later ...). No special treatment of course, as no birthday :!:

Must have been a big drug bust earlier in the day! ;)

A well-connected guardian angel organised a birthday cake for me on an SQ flight in whY back in 2006, flying SIN-MEL. I had it in place of the continental brekky they served onboard. :)

What a great story!

I once had a customs person in Singapore wish me happy birthday when she checked my passport, after I'd had rather large machine guns held at my chest at length because they thought I was smuggling drugs. Also, I'd missed a large chunk of it because I was flying west to east.

Unforgettable? Yes. Good? No. I'm still slightly scared of birthdays.

What an awesome story drron! I wish I had something to remember like that!!

I have spent 2 birthdays as of recent on planes - in fact, 2 birthday celebrations by myself, 1 in SYD Flounge (before the new one) and 1 in SYD QP waiting for a very delayed flight home - perhaps this is because I was born on Friday the 13th.... no special treatment at all...

Mr!
