I thought some of you might be interested to know that Phil Hawkins, the Chief Operating Officer of Flybuys, joined me on this fortnight's 'AFF on Air' podcast.

We chatted for around 28 minutes in the podcast about a range of different topics including the Flybuys/Velocity partnership, targeted offers, the Flybuys Max trial and whether Flybuys has any plans to match the increased 2:1 conversion rate of Woolworths Everyday Rewards points to Qantas points.

During the interview I also asked Phil whether he encouraged members to try to look for loopholes and game the system - as I know a few people on this forum do. In his answer, Phil said "On the very positive side of it Matt, seeing members that are very engaged with the program is something that we encourage. We are very aware that there are a range of members who look very, very closely at the way we construct our promotions and we're also aware that a lot of members work out the way to optimise their membership and derive the maximum benefit. At the end of the day, that's something we encourage because they are engaged."

Phil also told me that he does read AFF from time to time.

If you want to listen to the full interview, you can find the AFF on Air podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and most other listening Apps. The episode (#47) is also available to listen directly on AFF - Podcast Episode #47: Flybuys Loyalty Program

Thanks for the update. I don't have an inclination to listen to 28 mins of the podcast, but what was the response to 2 for 1 conversion ratio you mentioned was discussed?

This is discussed at the ~31 minute mark of the podcast.

Basically, Phil said that it was important that flybuys stays relevant and attractive, and they've noted the increase in the Woolworths to Qantas points conversion rate. But he also pointed out that you can still get effectively the same conversion rate with Flybuys > Velocity when there's a 15% bonus. His full answer is more nuanced than that, but that's a summary for you.
