Yesterday I received a message on my mobile from qantas that my flight had been delayed by 30 minutes. My 2.30PM flight to Sydney from Melbourne was now rescheduled for 3pm.
I arrived at the self check about 2.20, and wasn't able to check in, I called the attendant over for assistance and she informed me that my flight was now boarding and I was too late . She quickly and without fuss issued me with a boarding pass for the next flight.
I'm grateful for the assistance the attendant provided and the Efficiency with which she resolved it. Luckily this time I wasn't on a tight schedule so the inconvenience was of limited impact, but it does leave me wondering what faith I can put into future alerts I may get from Qantas. Is the flight really delayed, should I ignore it?
I'm wondering if any other members have encountered this problem? And what Qantas response to it the was?

I have had this text message, a many of times.

Have learnt to keep an eye on FR24, the qantas app & the qantas website when ever I have a delay.

I dont trust anything from qantas automated text services, half the times I get a message saying "my flight has been cancelled, please contact QF" but in actual fact, it's not cancelled, the plane has been changed from a F100 to a B717 for more capacity! all that changed was the flight number! yeah sure my original flight number did change, there for cancelled, but MY flight it self is still a goer.

I still go to the lounge at the original time. Saves me any potential agro.

that kind of delay is minimal tbh and I wouldn't let it affect my arrival time at the airport tbh. Specially with MEL-SYD a/c swaps and so on can swap them and be back on time etc

I also keep an eye on flight status anyway.

it's good the agent just put you on the next with no fuss and presume no charge so that wasn't so bad

I trust those notifications. I don't want to confirm the delay with any other app or website. I will plan to arrive at the airport based on the new departure unless I am already on the way out to the airport. Have better things to do than sit around the airport waiting for a delayed flight.

What would be helpful is if the msg said your flight QF123 has been canx but you've been rebooked on QF456 at (time).

All the msg does is freak people out as more often than not they've already been rebooked on an alternate service but of course they don't know this and are often are waiting for ages on the phone to res to find out what's happening.
