Due to a delayed departure from BNE to LAX my connecting flight to Calgary on West Jet was changed to Air Canada. I'm was banking on the SC points from this flight to get me over the line for gold level. Will I have a chance for Qantas to still give me the points if they changed the connecting flight to a non point reward carrier?

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

You always have the option of contacting QF for ORC (Original Routing Credit), however depending on the flight number that you had purchased for the Westjet Flight, you may get points only.

If you had purchased the Westjet flight number, you will only earn points as per the Airline earning table.

Lodge a request for Original Routing Credit (ORC) with QF.

The original connecting flight was a QF flight however when Qantas changed it, it then went to a AC flight number.

Don't expect big sorry

It doesnt matter, you are chasing the credits for the original flight, and there is no reason why you shouldnt get it as far as I can see.

Original routing credits is just that, it gives you the SC's and points which you would have gotten if you had flown the original booking, regardless of the route and airlines you ended up actually flying. I suspect the only proviso is that the airline (which ever was the operating carrier) would have needed to have bumped you for whatever reason, ORC's wouldn't apply if you approached the airline and asked to be moved.

The devil is in the detail - that being the flight number of the Westjet flight as purchased by the OP. QF flight number (as confirmed by the OP) = Points and SC's, WS flight number would be points only, hence the request for clarification.

I meant it doesnt matter that they were moved to an AC flight number, as it is the original flight that was important ie the QF flight number.

As others have said, you will not get the points and status credits for the flight automatically. However, you are entitled to them.

Send an email to the Qantas Frequent Flyer Service Centre: [email protected]

In your email, request an "Original routing credit" and explain that you were moved to the other flight due to the delayed inbound flight. Send a copy of the ticket for your Westjet flight for good measure.

I've had a similar thing happen to me when flying AA. My flight was cancelled and I was rebooked on Air Canada. I submitted an ORC request as per above and the points/SCs were posted to my account a week later.

(I may or may not have also got points in a *A program for the AC flight... ;))
