PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

I'm still getting my head around this but FlightStats has my QF9 flight on 12th July as:

F/9 A/9 P/0J/9 C/3 D/0 I/0 U/0W/0 R/0 T/0 Z/0 Y/9 B/9 H/9 K/9 M/9 L/9 V/0 S/9 N/9 Q/9 O/9 G/0 X/0 E/0

That looks to me like a pretty empty flight? Am I reading that right?

F quite empty (but F tends to have late reservations), J is getting full but probably overselling due to F9, PE full and economy quite open at this stage.

I'm in economy. Pretty much no chance of upgrade with my lowly bronze status anyway so glad to have a slightly increased likelihood of a spare seat next to me.

Would appreciate some info on loadings for:
QF 597 SUN 07JUL BRISBANE PERTH

QF 594 WED 10JUL PERTH BRISBANE

Is flightstats as accurate as EF?
They both get their information from GDS's - each returns what the airline provides to the individual enquiry.

The airline may vary the availability based on geographical location, agency and other facits.

You can have E/F vary the geog. location between the UK and the USA.

So in reality they both provide information accurate for enquirer - however results can vary.

I'm flying QF98 on 12th July in Y (Y fare) and have requested an upgrade to J. Loadings are as follows:

J/5 C/5 D/3 I/0 U/0 Y/6 B/0 H/0 K/0 M/0 L/0 V/0 S/0 N/0 Q/0 O/0 G/0 X/0 E/0

Am I right in thinking that unless the remaining Y/6 sell out, the chances of an op-up are zip (assuming I cancelled my upgrade request) and that the chances of my upgrade are fairly low given the D/3 and I/0?

TIA.

Hmm, now the loading is showing:

J/6 C/5 D/4 I/1 U/0

Y/1 B/0 H/0 K/0 M/0 L/0 V/0 S/0 N/0 Q/0 O/0 G/0 X/0 E/0

which looks more favourable for an op-up and an upgrade.

I'm beginning to think that this is akin to 'studying the form' for horse racing and getting a reliable prediction of what will happen seems highly unlikely.

That looks very oversold in economy.

The Y6 / Y1 could very well have been them selling business seating for high economy fares.

Thanks serfty. I'm wondering whether I should cancel my upgrade request and hope of an op-up..... but since I'm SG, I assume WPs and up would take priority for op-ups and I really would like the J seat for the night flight.

Decisions, decisions!!

A slightly different type of question here...

On QF127 in about a week's time, it went from all 9's then D5 then all 0's about a day ago, to all 9's then D3 then W1 and Y2 but all other still at 0. Does that mean at least two pax (where at least one is WP1) used points to upgrade to J?

And since they haven't processed other upgrades, and that W/Y have opened up again, I would think that the flight is not massively overbooked, making an op-up rather unlikely? Not that I care so much about an op-up in this case - it's more of an academic discussion.

Re: Seating Availability/Allocation/Configuration Help Desk

Being relatively new to AFF and some of the tools recommended like expert flyer, I thought I should ask about how availability works.

Looking at some upcoming flights, QF1 on 4/9 shows F5 A5 J9 C9 D9 I9 W9 R4 T0 Y9 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 G0 E0 on EF, and the seat map shows only 8 W sets. Flight stat returns F9 so that is more marked. But overall plenty of seats yet in each class.

QF2 on 3/10 is quite different. It shows availability of F4 A3 J9 C3 D0 I0 W0 R0 T0 Y0 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 G0 E0. Flight stats returns much the same. So W0 and Y0 suggest pretty well full up, but seatmap shows W7 either blocked/open. I suppose it means that not all W bookings have selected a seat? When I search for a fare on QF site for this flight in Y or W, there are fares available. Does this mean they are over selling?

Re: Seating Availability/Allocation/Configuration Help Desk

Seats maps are not a precise guide as there is great variance in the number of PAX who actually bother with seat preallocation, availability buckets tend to be a better interpretive guide.

On that, there is a good link in post one of this thread to a reasonably explanatory thread on understanding fare buckets.

I suppose the thing that really surprised me was that the buckets for QF2 in W and Y (sourced from QF?) can be zero, but the (new, ugly) QF website is still selling tickets on the flight.

Carries can vary availability depending on various factors such as country of sale, agent selling, city of sale etc.

What you see with flightstats is the availability QF make available to (I presume) USA requests. with ExpertFlyer you can vary this between the USA and the UK.

Upgrade Likely QF1?

Hi Guys,

I am hoping for some guidance as one thing I still have to learn is about the ticket classes, plane loadings and the chance of upgrades - so any help would be really appreciated.

We are flying SYD-DXB on 10/08 in J and hoping for an upgrade for me (WP) and Mrs R (SG) to First (special occasion)

I know we are still a few weeks out, but can anyone look at those 'letter and number combination things' and let me know how it is looking?

Cheers

Re: Upgrade Likely QF1?

Looks like your chances are not good:

It's showing as 1 First seat available for sale only. The seat map only has 4 unallocated seats, but that's not an indication that they are unsold.

FYI these questions can be asked here: Seating Availability/Allocation/Configuration Help Desk

Worth checking the EK codeshare as well, which has slightly better availability at F2, these will come back into the pool of QF seating near departure if unsold.

Re: Upgrade Likely QF1?

Thanks for the fast reply Guys,

That is just my luck! But no worries.

I had a quick read through that thread drewbles and picked up a couple of bits of knowledge - but is there 1 post that explains the different letters that are used, I can guess F, J etc but is A still first and how about C and D?

I also presume then that the numbers next to the letters are the number of seats left to sell - so as you say there is only 1 in F and that would mean there are 9 in J?

Thanks for the help, really appreciate it and thanks markis for the added hope! just maybe...
