PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

Please check post #1 for a tip on how to get loadings online for free.

Thanks for that - i have now registered on that site and tried a check for 8/9 and 10/9
I see that they both show 9 seats (or more) available on several flights - is there a way to know which ones are really lightly booked other than seeing 9 which i assume is the most detail this shows?

Thanks but now i am more confused - the previous link was to flightstats site now its referring to expert flyer and there seems no link to go there other than discussion re EF.
ISthis another site i need to register on?
All getting a bit much, maybe i have to resort to travEl agent the DYI is hard to get a handle on....
On flightstats it only shows numbers like 9 for each cabin but no bucket details etc so presuming this doesn't tell us much?
It's a little dated that thread, but the concept's the same.

(E/F now does show basic QF award fare buckets: P, U, Z & X)
ExpertFlyer is a paid site, but the information displayed comes from similar sources as FlightStats. (There's a whole forum on E/F here, that thread I linked to is in it.)

With flightstats, if you gently"mouse-over" each the numbers (as in the '9' for "like 9 for each cabin"), the bucket details should appear alongside "Fare Classes:" in a mini pop-up.

Thanks very much that works for me -i was looking for either 8/9 or 10/9 SYD-LHR and consensus advice was that thu was more open than sat. I see that the figures are quite similar with Sat showing most categories as 9 available on QF1. Does this mean its very lightly booked? Compared to thu 8/9?
Just trying to understand how the advice is made from earlier in this thread. Once i understand this i won't need to bother you all again!

Couple of weeks back when flying to BKK O class showed 9 available up until a day before departure but the flight was completely full. Yield control works in mysterious ways :D

Just wondering what my chances of an upgrade J to F are on QF 11 SYD-LAX 07 Sep 11?

I know it is still two weeks out but just curious on the loadings

It is now showing F8 A4 at T-20 hours. The F seat map has 8 vacant seats, which until the last few hours were all available, now two are blocked (my upgrade request is for 2?). Another flight has appeared on my Qantas booking as a waitlisted flight. Is this normal for an upgrade request? Still no points deducted, no doubt time will tell.

G’day there everyone!

Am new to the whole forum thing, but let me say I have learnt so much in such a short time that I wish I had known for years!

To not be aburden on others, I have attempted to track down and learn how to do things myself. But am struggling.

My situation is the following:

I do a lot of trips between Australia and South America, always using Qantas via either LAX or EZE. I am 6’7” and have done way past my share of long-haul Y, and now usually only do J. The cost hurts me as am not rich but now I simply cannot face those 14hr flights in Y. Am a QFF WP. But right now due to a ticket purchased a while ago I have a remnant economy return leg LAX-BNE booking, QF16, on 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] November 2011 purchased as an O fare.

What I want to do is buy an upgrade to Premium Economy, and then if possible maybe use points to upgrade that to business.

I have tried to learn the art of FlightStats, and have come up with the following info:

QF16 LAX-BNE 3/11/11
J9C9D9I4U0 W9R9T8Z0 Y9B9H9K9M9L9V9S9N9Q9O9G0X0E0

I know this flight is still 2 mths away, but I tend to choose Thursdays as the flights seem less full.

My questions are:

1.- Does the lack of F,A seats suggest that this is a 747 flight with no First service, but still the first seating? (Thanks to info gained from this forum discovered that trick – have seat 1A on a EZE-SYDflight in a couple of weeks - first time! J )

2.- What is the best way to upgrade from an O fare in Y to Premium Economy? Just call Qantas and pay difference? I know I can't do it with points.

3.- Will the subsequent Premium fare type be upgradeable using FF points?

4.- Would the seat availability codes above seem to allow this?

Any advice very welcome. As I said, am new to this interest in the finer art of travel, and so everything is hugely appreciated.

Cheers.

Hi Juddles,

Let me try to go through your questions,

1) It seems that it is a 3 class bird with J seats in the nose
2) If you booked through QF give them a buzz if you booked via TA give them a buzz to see what can be done, should not be a problem but have no idea on cost
3) If you are paying for the upgrade to prem whY you can enter the upgrade lottery for a J seat
4) looks like a pretty lightly loaded flight and from prem whY to J as a WP has a good chance I think... but... it is still not guaranteed

Hope this helps,

Yes points upgrades go into your Manage My Booking as a waitlist and a decision is made up to 5 hours prior to departure. Let us know how you go, and if you are in F enjoy the trip!

RE (1) Dang!
(2) will call Qantas
(3) are any Premium fares non-upgradeable with points? That was my worry!
(4) I hope so!

BTW, please forgive the original joined words, etc in the post - did it on Word then cut and pasted - have tried to go back in to edit it to make it more user friendly.

Thanks Mille!

you might no be able to do it online, like the I class business class fares, but I know you can call (at least for an I class) and request an upgrade over the phone

Slightly off topic.

Mrs JC wants to spend NY eve in New York in 2013. I have for the past three years serached from 353 days out and there has never been any reward flights later than mid December. Is this there no inventory around that time? I have enough points for J award and am SG. Should I purchase full economy or PE and try for an upgrade?

Any advice/suggestions gratefully received.

Damn...looks very front heavy...might need to enjoy my 80A...and stuff myself silly in the F-lounge.

Question for you guys, I'll be flying QF94 LAX-MEL on 25/09, would you suggest i put in a points upgrade or roll the dice on an op-up. I"m a PG & will be flying on a J class ticket this segment. Loadings from EF as follows:

F7 A3 P0 J3 C0 D0 I0 U0 W0 R0 T0 Z0Y9 B9 H9 K1 M2 L0 V1 S0 N0 Q0 O0 G0X0 E0

Thanks in advance!

If you don't put in a points upgrade request; any SG/PS/NB in J with a points upgrade request would generally be upgraded before you.

Looks quite full at the pointy end ...

Upgrade came through at around 12 hours prior. A380 first suite, wow! Here is hoping for a repeat on the way home.
