PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

Be aware that there is a glitch in EF whereby it does not show U bucket in a Flight Availability search (but it does show X).

The only way to see U availability is to do an Award and Upgrade search.

As it stands right now:

Thanks so much John for explaining that I’ll ask for this specifically next time as well. The good news is that bang on 72 hours the upgrade was approved.

Is this a new glitch?? I have only gone back 2 pages and noticed that U availability was shown in posts #6007/011/012/021. IMO EF is a useful tool but is not 100% accurate. When requesting seat release I always look at EF first prior to calling QF and in the past I have seen 9D, 9I and after calling have been advised by the QF agent that they can not see the fare buckets that can be released. Also upgrade approvals be it a week out, 48 hours or on departure can become quite random as is at the whim of what QF allows.

I'm not sure how long it's been a glitch, but it's been a little while - and definitely persistent since I first noticed it. Whether it only applies to QF, I do not know. Just something to be aware of, I think.

I have not had the inconsistencies you describe - but I probably haven't chased as many as you. ;)

Aside from U missing and X shown, there are some anomalies with award availability that EF doesn’t deal with discussed in this TPG article. Available seats on the seat map also vary with some airlines if you have your FF number included in your profile - e.g. for QF it shows seats available for my WP status that aren’t available to NB.

I’m not sure whether EF shows award seats only available to status holders or not, e.g. QF availability between 330 and 355 days out.

With regard to the QF award buckets in EF, I've had mixed success & consistency using the regular and award searches, but found if I search using the specific fare buckets "X,Z,U,A" then I tend to capture all that is actually there. Only downside is that you need to run a separate open search to assess the rough chances of releasing a seat (e.g. decent availability in 'I', for J)

Cheers,
Matt.

Put a points upgrade request in for the lunchtime flight between Canberra - Brisbane tomorrow. Request got up at 9am this morning. Had a flex economy ticket / Silver.

Just re QF778 PER-MEL 10/01/2022 ... this is currently flagged as a 787 ... but it doesn't look to be full on Expert Flyer ?? Not in business or economy.

If you search on the QF site, there are NIL economy fares available ... and there only appears to be a handful of business class fares (maybe 4?).

What is the go? Is there a capacity limit for flights ex PER - MEL? Social distancing? Seat pattern? Something else?

The seat map on this flight in Y look so be quite full, agree J looks odd. Maybe J seats have been reserved (not on sale) to the public so QF can put PER based a crew on the flight to fly it back given the WA entry rules.

Gday

Can I please request the fare class availability and seat map for MH140 SYD-KUL departing 2215 tonight 19/01/2022?

Thank you.
Pele.

Here's availability - but be aware that a glitch in EF does not show U bucket here. I checked separately and it's showing zero U.

However, good I availability is encouraging - depending on your status and competing demand, of course.
