PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

I'm flying
QF107 SYD - JFK (2 May 2014)
QF3204 SFO - LAX (22 May 2014)
QF12 LAX - SYD (22 May 2014)

I bought Premium Economy tickets and requested upgrade to Business. As a Platinum member, what are my chances?

Guess you probably know about QF107 by now.

QF3204 is F9 A0 J9 C0 D0 I0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9

QF12 is F8 A5 J8 C3 D0 I0 W3 R0 T0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 G0 E0

Not out of the question I would say.

I have been told here that regardless of availability in Y or Y+, upgrades are given somewhere between the I and D fare buckets, which have zero availability in both the flights above, unfortunately for the OP.

Not sure about that - AFAIK, D > I > U - High I is a reasonable indicator.

Why is EK407 showing 0 availability for 2 May yet QF8407 is F/1 J/4 Y/5?
Codesharing agreements can work in different ways. Sometimes they share the pool of seats and availability will pretty much match between the carriers. Sometimes each carrier has a certain number of seats assigned to their code and they when they have sold all their allotment they will show no further availability. The share of seats between the carriers may be fixed for the entire sales period, or the mix may be reviewed at various stages of the sales process and adjusted based on agrees mechanisms. Sometimes this is also reflected in the seatmap (look at some QF/LA codesahres trans-Pacific) where certain blocks of physical seats are assigned to each codeshare flight number, but other times the actual physical seat assignments use a common pool.

I have no idea of the commercial terms of the EK/QF codesahre agreement that applies to this specific flight, so cannot comment specifically on this flight.

Hi all

Have the MIL coming in from Hong Kong on QF30 departing 05/05/14 and have put in an upgrade request using points and wondered what the probability was. Also thought as I put in the request with my points and as a P1 we would have heard by now.

Not sure how the upgrade request works, but it's 9's all round the plane except for U class which is 0.

Wondering about an upgrade on QF 574 PER-SYD on 15th Aug.

I thought if there is award availability that the upgrade would confirm relatively rapidly? I booked and selected the upgrade about 2 weeks ago now and my booking has remained unchanged, but a MEL-PER flight booked later has been upgraded.

Any ideas, advice?

Thanks!

Call and ask them to see if upgrade is available there is a known issue with online upgrades domestically not working properly

Hello

Just wondering whether any kind soul had a moment to check J availability for QF9 on 23 June 2014? My partner is down for a Y+ to J upgrade.

Thanks in anticipation.

D6 is not too bad for a WP, not sure for lower status...

Thanks so much defurax. Sadly not WP: just a NB. Still, miracles do happen. I am in F so I am hoping that a bridge of two classes doesn't cause a relationship rift...

Well, it's not always that simple. Theoretically if F was empty you could see 14 J seats becoming available during the upgrade processing period.
I don't know all the intricacies of the system, but all I know is that I was once upgraded on a J2 flight.

I have been told here that upgrade requests would sit somewhere between U and I; which unfortunately for the OP show zero availability.
Upgrade requests are U with Qantas, not between U and I.

What happens is that in the days prior to a flight qantas look at how many seats remain unsold in the premium cabins and determine how many to make available for upgrades.

A high amount of D and I a few days before a flight tends to be indicative of a more lightly loaded business cabin. So there would be a higher chance of more upgrade availability being made available.

Hi, is it possible for the experts in here to check on loads, etc for following :

qantas sydney to Hong Kong - qf127 - 10th July 2014
