I have made silver for the first time. Not a big deal for all you Gurus but satisfying that it has been done the hard way (self funded). Looking forward to the extra points.

Congratulations on your newly acquired status - and enjoy the benefits! (not just the points!!!)

Well done. I know from personal experience how hard it is to self fund your way to status.

After silver, I added a DONE4 to get to gold and with any luck my nest DONE4 should see me hit Platinum

Congrats on making Silver and hopefully more to come!

Congrats mate. I should be joining you by next week. Gold by New Years!
Self funded too.

Cheers:)

Well done.. Not an easy task when flying on your own coin!

Enjoy the benefits and hopefully you can make gold!!

Yup as a fellow SFSC I say congrats too.

I remember when I first got my shiny silver card. Was a great moment considering I knew nothing of 'status chasing' back then, nor did I know of this forum.

I managed to keep a hold of PS for around 6 1/2 years by doing 99% of my travel down the back of the bus on O/N fares domestically, before finally getting to gold then onto platinum (from 0SC's at requal roll over to WP in under 6 months). The SG and WP were all thanks to the awesome people on here telling me what a YUPP and YUPP was :) Now, It's onwards to Lifetime Gold (almost at Lifetime Silver!).

Onwards and upwards now ;)

Congrats - it may be nothing in the whole WP scheme of things, but as another who earned Silver the hard (self funded) way there is a certain sense of achievement.

Well done. :)

As one who maintained SG the hard way (90% domestic OZ discount economy travel) until coming across AFF, congratulations.

Good work. I’m currently doing the math in my head as to whether I want it or not. I need 160SC’s, which is doable to AKL but I also need to renew QP and I’m just at the crossroads as to whether online check-in would really be worth it :p

This is a great site though for maximising milage.

Sam,

I would renew QP and don't worry about PS. QP covers most of the perks of PS and you get to eat sandwiches in the lounge which is not covered by PS.

IMHO SG is the first staus that really changes anything if you have paid QP membership.

Sam,

I agree with ejb on this one :!:

Much better bang for your buck. ;)

Of course, QP wont permit seat pre-selection online for Qantas international flights whereas PS will - of course one needs to fly internationally on Qantas to make use of this.

Congrats. I also just cracked silver myself, achieved the same way as you, so I certainly know how you feel.
